Twilight the Movie
How can there not have been a thread in honor of Twilight the movie? Do no CC'ers share in my steamy lit-love for Edward Cullen?
I absolutely loved the movie. I thought it followed the book close enough. It left out some key parts, because you can't put everything into a movie like you can a book obviously, but I can forgive them. I like the direction it went in.
It was very beautifully shot, too, in my opinion. The scenery in that part of Washington is beautiful. Most reviews say it was too angsty and emo... and I supposed I can see where that comes from in a you-didn't-read-the-book kinda way. The score was a bit indie-emo. But it's a LOVE STORY, of course it's going to be angsty. It's modern day Jane Austen. Since when are love stories supposed to be simple? No one gave Romeo and Juliet a hard time.
I loved the cast, they did a great job, and the casting director is brilliant because most of them are exactly how I've been picturing them in my mind, on the exception of Carlise and Esme..
So, ten out of five stars, it exceeded my expectations.
I was not expecting much - as usually I do not like the movie after reading the book - but I was quite impressed. I disagree with you only on the casting - the only person I saw that way was Emment. Everyone else looked very different than I was expecting. I didn't catch that Bella's friends were asian/black - i think that was just something to make it more "high School" friendly.
But, overall, I thought the cast did a great job playing their parts -very true to character.
I thought it was going to be corny and teeny-angstish. Can anyone report on that facet?
Omg, I didn't see the movie, but I saw the South Park episode that poked fun at it. It was hilarious.
I have to admit that as I get older (I'm 32 now), I just can't seem to get into movies that star teenie boppers anymore. I love vampire movies and stuff like that, but I just don't know if I can get over the kids starring in it. It just seems weird to me and unrealistic (even for a vampire movie!) I understand that the book series is for young adults? Maybe I'll read it first and then we'll see. I want to see it, but is it too blatantly, like 4theloss states above, teeny-angstish?
I am absolutely in love with Edward... in the book. I thought the movie was terribly cheesey. But that's because the book is cheesey, it just doesn't seem like it when the words are in your head and not on the movie screen. I thought that the acting was terrible and the lighting was awful. I really hope for the second movie someone big will pick it up. I am still planning on seeing the next three, simply because Edward is my husband. ;-) Part of my problem may have been the fact that I was watching the movie at 1am.... but I thought it was terrible. I did, however, find myself wishing the whole entire time that Edward was real and I give them props for sticking mostly to the story.

Yeah, that was the best episode in awhile. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did like the books, although I wouldn't compare it to Jane Austen. ![]()
I haven't read the books but several people have told me that instead of burning up in sunlight the vampires in Twilight SPARKLE, which I find hilarious.
So I was very disappointed when I saw posters for it in the subway and the actor pictured was not sparkling. A big Hollywood budget and they couldn't spring for some body glitter?!
My friends made me go see it with them (I've never read the books, and wasn't really planning to). Maybe it's because I have a serious problem with vampires. The movie really scared me. Being the spoilsport that I am, I went home onto Wikipedia, and read all of the summaries for the books. I feel like the books are kinda cliqued and everything the characters want, they get. However, they basically summed up four massive books in ten paragraphs, so that's not a good way to judge what happens.
I have a question. I just brought the book, should I watch the movie first, or read the book?

Ha! That is hilarious!
I always read the book first. It allows me to create the people in my head - otherwise the movie imposes their character and setting.
Enjoy!
Yesh, me too. I always read the book first.
I read the books and they were entertaining...Meyer has a way of keeping one enthralled, but the story shouldn't be taken too seriously.
It worries me a little when I hear teenage girls say "Sigh....I'm in love with the Edward"....ummm, seriously? The book toes the line on what is 'love' and what is obsession. When a boy climbs into your room to watch you sleep without you knowing about it that is not love it's called stalking :)

I agree with you. They need a new director or something cause the movie was badly put together and the filming, camera angles sucked. At some parts my eyes hurt cause the camera shaked too much. Anyway i thought the acting sucked and most of the casting was bad..the ppl that i did think did a good job was Carlisle, Alice, Emmett, Jessica and Edward, he was a little overdramatic and comedic in some parts but overall he had the look and he acted ok. Bella/kristen to me had the look but she delivered her lines terribly, she stutters too much and has like a manly voice. It was awkward. They def. need a new director to pick up the movie, hopefully someone big like Tim burton or steven speilberg lol yea i wish.

Read the book. The movie was poorly done and I was super disapointed.
The effects were cheesy, EVER SINGLE SCENE was put to music that sounded out of place. The scenes were choppy and they hacked the dialogue from the book until it made NO sense, they lost all of the romance and passion from the book.
I give it 1.5 out of 5 stars for the movie....10 out of 5 for the book(s).
double post.
/facepalm
The exciting parts were exciting, but the uneventful, trying-to-be-dramatic-and-overly-drawn-out scenes were boring.
Everyone in the theater started cheering and whoo-ing when they almost had steamy vampire sex. But of course we were all disappointed. :'(
Thanks for the help, the book first it is!
Thank goodness, I don't think I could wait another two weeks until after the movie comes out.
I saw the movie and didn't really care for it. The acting was so wooden I could hardly believe these people were cast. I was painfully aware of the fact that these were actors acting. I ended up thinking more about what the actor was thinking than what the character was thinking. Ah well, maybe I'm just bitter because DAMN that boy who plays Edward is nice to look at and I'm too old to track him down and stalk him.
