Two Days Late - Negative test
My husband and I weren't planning on TTC until the end of August, but we haven't exactly been careful either. As is, we don't use condoms, and I'm not the most religious about my birth control. We are just of the feeling right now of, if it happens - great, if it doesn't, then in August when things settle down a bit, we can really start tracking body temp, cycle, all that stuff.
I'm two days late, and I don't have any symptoms of my period. I usually have breast tenderness, cramps, and constipation (TMI? I'm sorry!) I've taken two pregnancy tests, and they've both come back negative. Am I taking them too early? Should I be waiting until Sunday (the normal last day of my period) to take it? Can being really excited and hopeful delay my period?
If you aren't taking your pill religiously; it may have thrown your cycle off. Wait a few days and take another test. It you are going to start to try- I would suggest going off of it completely. You could very well be pregnant; but; wait a few more days.
And since you're going to start trying by the end of august; my suggestion is to seriously stop taking the pill to let your body get on a normal schedule of releasing an egg. Sometimes women conceive very quickly; others a few months.
Best of luck to you- and have fun trying!!![]()
Well, vannessa and I both know that you CAN get pregnant while on birth control pills because we both did.
I wasn't religious about taking my pills, either. I didn't miss days but I never took them at the same time every day. After being on the pill for 5 years, I got pregnant with my first child while still taking them.
However, it could be stress keeping your period at bay or, as vanessa said, your inconsistency in taking the pill could throw your cycle off. I took a pregnancy test three or so days before my missed period and got a positive. It's common to get a false negative but uncommon to get a false positive.
I, too, think you should give it a few days and try again. If you keep going without a period and negative tests, schedule a doctor's appointment. I also agree that you should stop taking the pill. I stopped taking mine months before we wanted to get pregnant because we thought it would take a while to conceive. Well, I wound up getting pregnant on the first try.
Thank you ladies! This was actually my last pack of pills, and I wasn't missing days, but I was taking them at different times of the day. Usually sometime in the morning, but there have been some days where it was more like 5 pm when I realized I hadn't taken one. Not like when I was in college where I quite literally set an alarm daily. I am going to wait until after what would be the last day of my period, and take another test. I know my husband did a little dance this morning when I told him I still didn't have my period. I guess there's no mystery what he's hoping for! ![]()
off topic....but does it really mess with your cycle if you dont take the pill at the EXACT same time every day?
I had no idea.
Im on the nuvaring so I dont need to worry about pills but I had no idea that it was that sensitive.
From the Planned Parenthood website:
"Combination pills work best when taken every day. Progestin-only pills must be taken at the same time every day. That keeps the correct level of hormone in a woman’s body.
- Less than 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they always take the pill each day as directed.
- About 8 out of 100 women will get pregnant each year if they don’t always take the pill each day as directed."
Also, from Dr. Kelly Shanahan for iVillage:
The first few pills in the pack are the most important ones to take on time. These pills, taken before the middle of your cycle, do the most to prevent pregnancy by altering cervical mucus and preventing ovulation. Pills in the last half are less critical. If you want to maximize the effectiveness and minimize annoying spotting, you should take your pills at roughly the same time every day.
