Snacks - fruit, tortilla chips, cookies

New way -I try to vary what I eat for each meal.  This is a typical day for me

Breakfast - 1 cup of Kashi Golean, 1 cup of skim milk, 1/2 cup fruit OR 4 eggwhites in an omelet with vegetables and a whole wheat English muffin.

Lunch - 3 oz serving protein, mini whole wheat pitas, green salad, tomato slices and condiments.

Dinner - 3 to 6 ounce serving of protein, 1 cup green vegetable, 1 cup yellow, orange or red vegetable, 1/2 cup potato, rice or starchy vegetable (corn, peas, beets, etc), condiments and sauces.

Snacks - 3 more servings of fruit, 2 more servings of dairy, 1 to 2 more servings of whole grain such as brown rice cakes, no more than one serving of either fruit spread & peanut butter if I have the calories left

Freebee anytime snacks - raw vegetables, plain.
lol sorry clairelaine i was about to type to you that i ment old way ^.^Y thanks for sharing! and good idea to put new way too!!
The Before:

Breakfast - none

AM snacks - none

Lunch - yogurt, hot pocket, dt. coke

PM snacks - none

Dinner - half a box of Pasta-Roni, half a can of corn or peas, 6oz steak.

Evening snack - maybe a big bowl of ice cream, maybe a beer or 2.

So I guess in short, now that I'm eating healthier I also feel like I'm eating MORE!  In the past I ate a ton of processed foods, drank very little water, and my portions were all wrong.   The above example is me thinking I had a really healthy day.  I mean c'mon Pasta-Roni must be better than mac 'n cheese, right?  . . .  LOL
Here is my before, during school. Most of it is fast food because I lived in a dorm room without a kitchen.

Breakfast:
1 large glass of OJ
Sausage, egg, & cheese sandwich with ketchup

Lunch:
2 Packets of Easy Mac
or
Fallafel wrap
or
Indian food like curry chicken, rice, samosa
2 large glasses of juice

Dinner:
Buffalo Chicken Wrap
or
roast beef, mozzarella, mayo, lettuce on a baguette
Water

Snacks:
Chips, cookies, anything
My before on a work day (which was usually about 12 hours):

Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: nothing

Dinner: 200g (7 ounces) plain pasta with a bit of salt, pepper and olive oil

Snacks: Coffee, hot chocolate, apples

And on a free day:

Breakfast: Coffee, 4-5 digestive biscuits, orange juice

Lunch: 200g (7 ounces) plain pasta with a bit of salt, pepper and olive oil

Dinner: Some kind of meat (chicken, pork, beef) with LOTS of bread, rice or pasta. Sometimes a salad thrown in if I'm trying to be healthy. :P

Snacks: Chocolate, coffee, cake (if available), ice cream, cereal, fruit, toast+margarine, pasta...
In addition to what I posted above, I frequently had a "pre-breakfast" if I woke up too early - a doughnut (or 3) and coffee.  Then, around 11, I'd have bacon and eggs and potatoes and toast and butter and feel virtuous because I skipped lunch.
Breakfast
Bowel of cereal - something with nuts.
peanut butter sandwich - if I had time

Lunch
2 x meat sandwiches of some sort - mayo, mustard, the whole bit.
or a big bowel of pasta - 2 cups worth.

2-3 cups of coffee w/cream.

Snack
Sandwich...I love sandwiches, if you haven't noticed.
potato chips, nuts and/or anything with peanuts.

Dinner
Meat and potatoes, gravy
coke, beer whatever was around but definately no diet stuff.
Typical Old Way of Eating:

Breakfast:  Frozen entree of any kind or sugar loaded cereals or McDonalds breakfast

Lunch:  Fast food, fast food and fast food

Dinner:  Pizza, chicken but always loaded with crap, pastas

Snacks: candy, sugar snacks, high carb snacks

Basically anything that wasn't good for me I ate.  Oh, I also hardly drank any water - usually diet coke or alcohol.

NOW I have changed my eating habits drastically (and I mean drastically).  I also drink tons of water a day.  I am feeling great and loving it!
OLD:
Breakfast - Coffee and cigarettes
Lunch, around 1 or 2 pm, sandwichs w/ mayo, cheese, noodles, by this point I was so hungry I would just eat whatever was fast..
Dinner: Rice, meat, veggies.. Ive always eatten alot of veggies, my boyfriend is diabetic, but I always had dip or anything to make it unhealthy..
After dinner snack was usually the same size as my dinner..

Old way one:
Breakfast- nothing
Lunch- chicken burger, chips, gatorade
Snacks- half a bag of patato chips,
Dinner- 4 slices of pizza, 4 breadsticks
drinks- about 8 sodas

Old way two:
breakfast- none
lunch- none
Snacks- handful of chips
Dinner- 2 slices of pizza
Drinks- 6 diet cokes

depended on how I felt and what not... :\... so glad I found this site ha

take care
OK--I know you're all going to be disgusted, but here goes:

Breakfast--cofffee with cream and 2-3 TBL sugar, a bagel with cream cheese and bacon or scrambled eggs with cheese and ham.

Lunch--most likely Chinese buffet.  Or pizza buffet.  Or a big sandwich on white bread with 2 slices of cheese, 1/4 lb cold cuts, and mayo.  With a side of chips.  (My arteries are shuddering as I type!).

Dinner--8 oz (or more) of steak, baked chicken with skin on, pork chops, meatloaf, or meatballs with a big plate of pasta or rice (think like 2 cups!).  Or, some kind of casserole.  Or 3 tacos or 3-4 pieces of pizza.  Usually, this meal involved butter and/or cheese or cream sauces.  It almost always had veggies or salad, but you guessed it--they were drowning in butter or full-fat dressing.

Snacks--chips, dips, nuts, cookies, ice cream, cheesecake--any amount I wanted.  And lots of fruit juice and pop.

New way--TOTALLY different!

Breakfast--either shredded wheat with raisins and skim milk, La Tortilla whole wheat wrap with better 'n eggs and veggies.

Lunch--spinach or mixed greens salad and a boca burger or tuna.  Or maybe veggie stir fry.  Or hummus and veggies on Ezekiel no-salt bread.  On a bad day, I have a healthy choice meal.

Dinner--fish (2x a week), chicken (1x a week), or a vegetarian protein (boca, garden burger, morningstar farms, tofu, seitan, etc.) with jasmine or brown rice (3/4 cup), steamed or stir fried veggies (1 cup) or either a half a corn on the cob w/promise spread or half a baked potato w/fat free yogurt and chives.

Snacks--fruit, almonds, kashi crunchy bars, luna bars, veggies, salt-free pretzels, ff yogurt, or cottage cheese.

Umm, yeah, big difference, huh?  :D
mmm

breakfast-cereal still, or no breakfast at all

lunch-sandwich, or mac and cheese

dinner-healthy dinners, but oversized portions

snacks-chocolate bar, bagel with cream cheese, iced cap or frappicino, carrots
old way-

breakfast - nothing (baddd) lunch - homemade grilled chicken wrap with pita, 100 calorie pack, and yogurt dinner - microwave pizza, brownies, cookies, whatever fattening was around

new way-

breakfast - bowl of fruit with apple lunch - green salad with tomatoes dinner- a stir fry with lean protein like eggs or shrimp
Breakfast:

Old way:  (2) sausage patties, (2)  homemade biscuits, fried potatoes, (2)  large fried eggs over easy, homemade sausage gravy, (2)  16oz. glasses of whole milk.

Now:  Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal, 20oz. water

Lunch:

Old way:  Very seldom ate a lunch.  If I did I had a bologna or ham sandwich on white bread with mayo.

Now:  Turkey sandwich with fat free swiss and sliced tomatoes on whole wheat, no mayo.

Dinner:

Old way:  (2) fried chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, homemade cole slaw, (2) biscuits, green beans seasoned with bacon, a pretty large slice of coconut creme pie for dessert, (2) 16oz. glasses of whole milk.

Now:  (1) baked chicken breast, medium potato, baked with 2tbsp. light ranch, broccoli with low fat cheese sauce, slice of whole wheat bread

Throughout the day drinks/snacks:

Old way:  4-5 cans Coca Cola Classic and 0-3 snack cakes.

Now:  60oz. water, 20oz. green tea, fruit, raw veggies, yogurt or on occassion a 100 calorie pack of hostess cupcakes.

Old way:  I added all that up one day on calorie count just to see how much it was and it was nearing 6,000 calories and 350 fat grams!

Now:  I average around 1,300 calories per day.

On most days I didn't eat the snack cakes though and thankfully I'm not an emotional eater or things would have gotten MUCH worse I think.  As it was it wasn't really that hard to drop my calories like I did because just changing the way I prepared things and replacing drinks with water or unsweet tea instead of soda and whole milk took care of most of the extras.
Old, old way (back in my 20s when I gained weight the first time):

breakfast - none

lunch - fast food, big mac, large fries, water (was never a soda drinker)

snack - M&M's or whatever goodies were lying around the office

dinner - giant cheesteak and fries (eating out) OR home-cooked meal giant portions drowning in butter and fat and skimpy on the veggies; 2 cups premium ice cream before bed

Old way, more recently (when I gained the 25 lbs last year):

breakfast - none

lunch - large salad and maybe soup at company cafeteria, or leftovers brought in from home

dinner - if I was cooking, pretty much the same as now - something healthy and modestly portioned OR, if we were eating out, 1/2 a portion of anything - usually healthy choice but more apt to order fries than I am now. 2 glasses of wine, sometimes 3. bedtime ice cream - Haagen Daz shared out of the container with my hubby.

On this plan I did eat 5-7 servings of veggies (love my veggies), but I never, ever ate any fruit for some reason.

Essentially, I wasn't eating a huge amount of calories, but I had a few habits that certainly weren't helping: 1) breakfast skipping; 2) too much wine - every day; and 3) mindlessly eating premium ice cream out of the carton.

Mostly I think adding in exercise has been the key for me, not so much diet part. I just tweaked my diet and didn't make too many revolutionary changes this time. I am no longer a breakfast skipper - that's a huge change for me. I am still drinking wine but only 4 oz a day (unless we eat out, then I might have a second glass). And I still eat ice cream just not as frequently and now I am sure to measure out the portions.
Before for me was living at home with my parents:

Breakfast- 2 full bowls of whatever sugar cereal was around (I'm guessing a minimum of 4 cups of cereal) with as much 1% milk as I could pour in.

lunch- leftovers, so possibly 8 oz of steak and a pack of ramen noodles.

snacks - whatever was around, usually Drake's coffee cakes, Entenmman's chocolate chip cookies, Hershey bars; literally anything I could get my hands on and lots of it.

Dinner - either a pound of steak or chicken with tons of rice or mashed potatoes and a small amount of some sort of vegetable. About once a week we would have fish and chips.

I'm guessing I must've been eating 3000-4000 cals on an average day. I never really maintained a steady weight, and I would fluctuate by several pounds quite often. I also ate out a lot.

Everyone in my family except my brother was obese, which made it impossible to lose weight while I lived there.

old way

breakfast = school breakfast usually cereal lunch - 1/2 a sandwich, milk

after school, in front of television chips (out of bag) and soda

dinner- whatever my mom makes

while doing homework or watching t.v chips (out of large bag) , ice cream (out of carton)
For breakfast I would not eat or eat a donut or croissant.

For lunch, well normally I didn't eat lunch.

For dinner, I used to order in chinese/thai/indian food nearly every night. Sometimes we would eat McDonald's or KFC. I also was an egg's benedict addict.
Breakfast
Eggo frozen waffles or pancakes swimming in syrup (sugar! WOOOH hyper kid) and lots of butter - i think i honestly liked the yellow buttery colour cause i barely tasted it under all the syrup...

Lunch
Sandwich on white bread.. PB&J, ham&cheese
Chex Mix

Dinner
HUGE 3 helpings of pasta in homemade italian red sauce
Lasagna sometimes
Chicken & rice
Always cucumbers on the side.. always loved cuc's :D

Dessert
As much ice cream as i could pile into a bowl.. or came back for more!

I guess this was mostly before 7th grade.
Breakfast:

2 bowls of some sugary cereal or pancakes dripping with syrup

Lunch:

At school, it would something fried and greasy... or on the weekends would be fast food.

Dinner:

Whatever was served, normally spaghetti w/ meatballs, pizza, steak and potatoes, etc...but I would have 2 helpings of it.

Dessert/Snacks:

How every much icecream I could cram into a bowl, greasy potato chips, cookies, etc

Wow looking back at what I ate THEN and looking at how I eat now...it really is an eyeopener. I feel so proud of myself :) Thanks for this thread!!
