Tzatziki (Cucumber Garlic) Sauce. So healthy and so full of flavor!

Quote  |  Reply

I just wanted to share this greek recipe with you since I make it ALL the time.

I eat Tzatziki sauce with my curry chicken, on a pita, as dip for carrots, green beans or cucumbers, on top of my salad as a dressing, as spread (instead of mayo) on sandwiches, as a dip for pita chips. It's so full of flavor but not even bad for you :)

  • 6-8oz fat free greek yogurt (I lean more towards 8 because the flavor can be pretty strong)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4tsp salt
  • 1/8tsp pepper
  • 1 cucumber
  • Fresh Dill or mint (Optional - I don't use it but a lot of recipes for Tzatziki do)

Step 1: Cut cucumber down the middle. Seed with spoon. Using the small side of the cheese grater, grate the flesh of the cucumber onto plate covered with paper towel. Bunch up the paper towel and squeeze the excess juice from cucumber so you are just left with the pulp.

Step 2: Put in small container greek yogurt, 2 cloves of "garlic pressed" garlic, lemon juice, salt, pepper. Mix.

Step 3: Mix in pulp of cucumber.

For best flavor results, let sit in the fridge for 24 hours. It should last in your fridge for 4-5 days. Each time you eat it you may need to drain juice from top.

I swear it's delicious & nutritious :)

I love this sauce!  It's great with roast lamb.  I add a little chopped fresh mint when serving with lamb.

This is delicious....I make a gyro salad and its yummy!!  Take mixed greens, some black olives, tomatoes (a little) feta cheese and gyro meat.  Use this sauce with light italian dressing and its my favorite meal! I was always too scared to check out these calories, but it looks like I've been doing okay! Everything in moderation...

For the entire recipe above using 8oz Three Greek Gods Fat Free plain yogurt:

I was just looking for a tzatziki recipe!! I was in the mood for it :) Thank you! I'm going to make this tomorrow!

Yay! :)

WOW!  Sounds like a great recipe.  I'm going to give it a try as a dip for my veggies next week.  Thanks for sharing!!!

I just had lunch with my mom at a restaurant specializing in Mediterranean food (Greek/Italian) and had a chicken gyro...my mom had the traditional lamb/beef gyro.  They piled on the tzatziki sauce! It was delicious.  I even dipped some of the french fries in it to get some of it off before I tried to lift the pita.  It's great with fries.  I told my mom I'd like to try greek yogurt (with fruit or as tzatziki) and she got some yesterday.  Can't wait to try your recipe.

Restaurant tzatziki can contain a decent amount of oil in it, and other pastes containing fat. I created this recipe after much trial and error trying different variations. Without the oil, I think it tastes just as delicious. No need for extra fat. I'd rather add some nuts or seeds to my salad to get my fat in with more flavor. Know what I mean?

I don't care about the extra fat.  It tasted great.  I'm sure your recipe does too.

I luv it its awsome on everything every week I make a dip to keep in the fridge for my carrot muchies and you gave me my weekly idea THANKS!!!

I just made some and with the left over juice from cucumber I mixed it with some whole wheat flour, some quick oats, some left over greek yogart ( i used 8oz of 10.8oz for the sauce ),  and egg substitute made a nice lil slight cucumber taste whole wheat and oat pancake.  but a small dab of the sauce on it even though it hadnt set completely and it was quite yum :)
