UGH why am i so hungry!?

Quote  |  Reply

I am trying to lose the 10 lbs i have put on since April and after restricting myself all of last week, and eating a bit more over the weekend ( didnt snack on anything too bad, just more apples and pretzels), i am still at the same weight as the beginning of last week. ugh.

To make matters worse, i am so hungry today! I ate breakfast at around 5:45am (oatmeal, apple, few baby carrots) and by 10:30am i was STARVING. So i ate my lunch that i bring with me to work (sandwich on wheat, baby carrots) Plus some pretzels out of the vending machine and its 12 noon now and i am still hungry!! Now i dont know what i should do, eat something else or not eat and wait until 7pm when i get home for dinner.

How does your diet work where you are not hungry, and not constantly yo-yoing! (like me). I am just so frustrated.

I think I posted a journal entry a few months ago with this exact same subject line! I restarted my calorie counting last week and the first two days were a bit rocky, but I think I have a better handle on it now.  The biggest thing I do differently is to try to eat a bit every two hours or so.

Here are some of the snacks I eat throughout the day:

1 serving of almonds

1 medium apple (I have discovered that I like mine tart and crisp!  I never used to eat apples.  These probably curb my appetite the best of all.)

1 Luna bar

1 serving of Kashi crackers

1 container of low fat yogurt

1 medium banana

1/2 cup of strawberries or melon

1 packet of Kashi Hot Cereal

1/2 can tuna in water (add a tablespoon of miracle whip if you can't eat it plain.)

1 serving of fat free pretzel sticks.

I am not a big veggie eater, so I don't get those in except in my salads and pasta sauce.  Mostly I try to focus on high protein or high fiber foods.  Kashi has a lot of good cereals and nutrition bars that give you both.  I have also been staying away from dairy except for my yogurt and my lactose free milk.  I think string cheese might be another good higher protein snack option that is lower in fat.  Combining the tuna with some honey sesame Kashi crackers is good too.  I am also trying to work in at least one cup of hot green tea sweetened with stevia or honey.  That seems to take the edge off of any hunger pangs as well.

I too am currently trying to loose the 10 pounds I put on since April.  I haven't budged a pound yet but am hoping that my body will start reacting to my changes soon!  I am making sure to eat enough calories of the right foods and also keep my meters at a 500 calorie deficit.  I exercise at least 30 minutes 6 days per week.

Good luck to you!  Smile

I agree that bringing snacks (healthy, like yogurt fruit or granola bars) to work with you and eating something small between breakfast and lunch and then another something small between lunch and dinner is a good way to solve this problem.  That has really helped me not be hungry all day, even with my lower calorie intake.

Before starting CC I never would have realized that I could make it through a whole day without being really hungry at all through the day...before this diet, when I was eating over 1800 cals a day, I was starving after meals and by the time I got home from work.  I think the main difference is I am eating healthier because I'm always worried about putting unhealthy foods in my body (and then having to write them on CC!).  But instead of craving those unhealhty foods now, I'm finding it easy to go under 1500 cals a day and still not be hungry.  Good luck!

Amen to that sister! Besides giving you sympathy, the only thing I'd like to recommend is a) yes apples are really good for you AND filling because they are high in fiber! and b) when you're hungry, drink a glass of water. I always thought that that was BS, but since I've been counting my calories, I've noticed that its been helping curb my cravings. I've read numerous times, from numerous places that we over eat because we think we're hungry, when really we're just thirsty... Hope this helps:) Good luck!

I also do a lot of pears as winter gets closer (high in fiber and filling)... As well as chamomile tea before bed (to make me too tired to snack!), and a lot of white tea or decaf tea during the day.  They ALL help keep your mind of the snackarama!
