:) The reassuring thing is, once you start eating past at least 1500 calories, your metabolism will kick back up again.
I think it would be really neat - try your hardest to hit over 2000 calories for two weeks and get your metabolism checked again! You'll be amazed! :)

I guesss i'm just so scared sh*tless. and i cant cope by burning it off

ashley you wreck my head. you know you cant come on here posting that crap about 900 cals. go to a different site if you're not prepared to make an effort.

and it NOT  okay. dont tell the OP "its ok my sis does the same thing". clearly eating 1100 cals and burning 850 is NOT okay. so you and your sister have a problem i think you should sort independent of this site wher you are CLEARLY promoting starvation behaviour.

im so annoyed at you. you've asked tonnes of questions, and gotten tonnes of sound advice and you have the audacity to come on here and say "oooh im only eating 900". you should be bloody ashamed of yourself.

What are you having a hard time in life coping with? I hope your therapist is helping you to look at those issue and learn ways to face them rather then self destruct. I am not sure what the point of the BMR testing is at this point since you are underweight and undereating. You need to look and remind yourself of the facts. You are starving yourself and have a BMI of 14. Not good. The goal needs to be to gain not to burn off calories. I know this is scary but you have to push through the fears. Stopping the excercise at this point is a good choice. Now what are some goals to increase your calories to gain and repair? What are some healthy coping tools and ways to face your life?

i wasnt promoting it i was making her feel like less of on outcast, we all have our struggles, ihave had alot latley with stress of school and death in the family, so you dont know what my situation is. i had no intent of making her think its okay. why would you say such a thing?

up your cals slowly and lessen excersise, im guessing you dont have your period for a low bmi so please up the cals, you want to be healthy right? in addition, every woman looks great with a healthy body. im sure the boney look isnt the most attractive (: please build a good relationship with food, you only have one life to live! instead of excersisng all the time spend time with friends or family and things like that. good luck and email me anytime!

ashley: hun whats going on with you lately.  You have been extremely MIA and now i see all of these not so encouraging posts? i know ur intentions are good but really you know whats right and whats not.  But if you are still struggling maybe you should think about being sent to a uh place for people with eating disorders where they can watch you.  I also believe this would be helpful because the environment you are currently in isnt good for someone in your condition.  I am sorry to hear about the recent death...would you like to talk about it??

fidget: please do not discourage someone to be somewhere where they can get some help.  Ashley is obviously struggling extremely and needs help majorly.  Yes she should not be posting things like that but you dont need to tell her to leave and what not because well she needs help and we may be the only place she feels comfortable venting to at the moment so its important that we support her and try and help her get better

mandy: hehe thats my name =] but neways well my first question is are you uncomfortable eating physically as in your apitite is simply vanished from having been on a "starvation" diet or because you just dont want to eat for vanity reasons?? Second, why on earth would you want to find out ur BMR if your body has obviously been severely effected in a negative way.  You have messed with your metabolism and it has slowed extremely and eating more and getting back to a healthy weight will restore it.

The first step you took...aka stopping the gym...is great!!! there are other ways to spend our time in order to keep you from thinking of excercise and what not....like try spending more time with family and friends or find a musical instrument to learn or buy a sketch book and draw....anything to keep you busy without burning calories because you really need every last one you can get.

Slow increases arent terribly hard to make.  you want to get up to 2500 as soon as possible but of course at a rate that is not triggering to you.  Add things that are extremely high cal to the things that you are already eating so you dont notice the difference but it is there.  For example if you are eating an instant pack of oatmeal made with water((160 cals)) you can easily make it with milk or cream or half n half instead, add some wheat germ, dried fruit, pb, honeey, and extra nuts and make it a good 600 or so cals higher without even noticing except for the fact that it will have more flavor =]  please ask any other questions and ill help as best i can =]

Struggling or not Calorie Count full stop does not condone pro-ana behaviour. By doing so she is only enabling the original poster to continue unhealthy habits. I think fidget has a very good point indeed and while a death is indeed traumatic again a website like Calorie Count is probably not the best idea for her to be using at this hard time; she should be spending it with family and friends and realistically, health professionals instead.

To the original poster, there is no way that on so few calories you are fuelling your body with what it needs. The minimum intake for a sedentary female over 21 is 1200 calories per day. For a sedentary female under 21 or a man over 21 it is 1500 per day, and a sedentary male under 21 1800 per day. And believe it or not, that’s only the sedentary minimum. Unless you are very, very short and small, and/or if you are working out it is very likely you will need even more calories than those minimum guidelines.

As you are underweight, you need to gain weight. To do so you need to be eating at least 2500 calories sedentary to gain steadily and keep the weight on. If you begin to work out you will need to eat more. For more info on this read here: The Aim is to Gain: Advice on Weight Gain, Whatever Your Reason

Eating too low a calorie intake, or having a deficit from your BMR greater than 1000 results in something called "survival mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:

  • Dieting & Metabolism - This article explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter productive.
  • The Body Neglected - This is what happens when you undereat for an extended period of time.
  • "Obesity on 700 Calories" - A tale of starvation mode's devistating effects, and proof you don't have to be underweight to be starving.
  • From Ask Mary, the segment provided by our CC nutritionist Mary Hartley: On the dangers of undereating and what it does to your body.

Your BMI of 14.2 makes you DANGEROUSLY underweight. The physical dangers that come with undereating and being underweight are numerous. You put yourself at risk of osteoporosis, of loss of fertility if you lose your period, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, and even death. The mental woes that come alongside can be just as devestating. Depression is common in undereaters, as well as distorted perceptions and problems like Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

At the BMI you are you are literally at risk of DYING SUDDENLY. You should STRONGLY consider going back to your therapist and requesting inpatient treatment. If you want some online support try http://www.something-fishy.org, and take a look through CC's Eating Disorders Health, Resources and Info Thread. But your most immediate concern is your health - and for that that means you need to talk to your doctor. But know this: Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management and if you are not seeking to manage your weight healthily we cannot and will not help you.
