ugh, I have to try again...

Quote  |  Reply

I reached my goal weight about a year ago and was maintaining my weight (+/- 3 lbs) for 10 months. But suddenly last month, I went through some extremely stressful time, and I started to eat a little more than I have been (I was eating around 1400-1500 calories before). And today, 1 month later, I realized that I have gained almost 8 lbs.... :(

So I decided to put myself back on a diet again today to return to my comfortable weight range over the next month or so. I have been so busy + lazy + mentally preoccupied with other things in life that I barely exercised for the past 3 months and ate whatever I wanted to eat. I never binged or ate things that are very unhealthy since I typically cook all my meals at home and eat very healthy organic food with lots of veggies. But still, I have to admit that I ate more frequently throughout the day and definitely ate more than 1500 calories.

I guess I just needed to vent here... Some of my pants were tight and I got a little bit discouraged and disappointed this morning. It's so annoying that I always end up carrying the additional weight on the lower half of my body and I'm dying to go back to my maintenance weight that I felt sooooooo good about... :( Anyways, thanks for listening.

Aww, don't worry..you'll be back to your previous weight in no time!

Sounds like you have a firm grasp on what is healthy, so I'm sure you'll do great.

No one is perfect, and a minor slip is easily managed if you catch it.

The thought of having to maintain at 1400-1500 calories per day is horrifying to me. I feel for you, really. But, at least you caught it at only 8 pounds. Those can be shed in no time. :)

Definitely agree with the previous posters that it's good you noticed after only a month. I did the same thing last fall and gained 10 pounds! But I also wanted to add that maintaining on 1400-1500 calories sounds very low, even for a shorter woman. Especially if you're exercising. I know it's not a fun thing to contemplate, but perhaps you were trying to maintain a weight that was too low for your body?

I have to disagree. I went through a similar thing last semester. I finally made it down to 116 lbs eating about 1300-1500 calories and working out. Then I went through a period of serious over eating and have since gained 12 lbs! I'm working back down by watching what I eat again and taking in on average 1300 calories (or trying to at least).

The point is, when I reached 116 lbs, even though I kept eating around 1400 calories and exercising I didn't lose anymore. My body just kind of stuck at 116 lbs and liked that weight and didn't want to go any lower. Eating more made me gain weight instead of maintaining. In general I aim to eat lowest 1200 calories and highest 1500 calories, with some days of exceptions, whether I'm wanting to lose or maintain. Maybe I just hit a plateau at 116? Not sure.

But I would say don't give up, keep eating healthily as you have been, and make sure you're only eating when you're hungry!!

After reading cosmo's post I looked at your stats. Your current weight is posted at 103.5 which puts you at a BMI of 19.2, barely within the normal weight range.

You probably should not be trying to lose more weight and should maybe concentrate toning rather than weight loss. According to the BMI calculator a healthy weight for you is between 100-130, if your body is pushing you a little higher you might consider that that just might be a healthier weight for you.

Not trying to criticize, just a suggestion. Hope you don't any offense.

ah! me too. i started at 133 and ended up at 127 now after a month of doing what i want and being lazy I'm at 135 and i feel soooo discouraged and i feel so fat. lots of people don't notice but i do, my face got chubbier again and i feel like i'll never reach my goal, i hope that if i keep working on it and eating between 1300-1400 calories I'll get back to where i was and lower hopefully. i just need to be careful, good luck to you and getting back to the weight you want to be at, same to everyone:)

Thanks everyone for comments! It's always nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this kind of frustration. :) I put myself back on my maintenance diet, and 3 lbs came right off so far! Thanks all for your support.
