Ughhhh, Is this what my life has come to????
Soooo, I just got back from the club...
Ugh, I HATE CLUBS.
Yea, I'm a little tipsy/more than tipsy..so excuse my grammar....I know how hardcore some people are about grammar on these sites.
I'm just annoyed. Whenever I go to clubs, I just get looked up and down, and then some nasty -A - guys try to grind w/me...which I'm completely NOT interested in.
Where do you go to find the guys that want to talk about quantum physics, GOOD music-like punk rock/OLD school punk rock. Someone who knows a thing or two about m-theory...I mean, I'm just FED UP. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I just think there has to be some guys out there that have 1/2 a brain. There has to be a guy or 2 that are more interested in personality than how much cleavage I'm showing right???? This is just depressing.
blargh....
This is a rant, a horrible rant, I appologize to ANYONE that has read this.
SORRY :).
Hey! I'm not a geek......
Just to clarify one thing, I wasn't at the club looking for a boyfriend (I know my post came off this way.) I was pretty much just dragged their by my friends. I'm not a huge fan of the club environment, so while I'm there I get a little bit cynical. I then decided to take it out on you poor people.
"smartjock256"-So many girls are attracted to intelligent guys! I'm just never able to find any (been looking in the wrong places I guess.) Never hide your intelligence, it's a huge turn on.

The university math department is where I bump into those types. Look for anyone wearing plaid and/or a Clash t-shirt.
HAH. But seriously, chat up anyone in a plaid shirt. If they're not a rock fan they'll be, at the least, a skilled tradesperson.

Very simple, you visit the wrong clubs. You are into punk? Why the heck do you go to a normal club then? Ever visited a Demo? Well you should!
And there is that loverly new invention...the internet ;) Get on websites concerning your interests and and discuss a bit with some people, it isn't that unlikely that you find someone that is what you are looking for.
I found my current BF by accident on a musicwebsite. He lives on the other wisde of the world - who would have thought?
Another important tip: be yourself, don't costume yourself, don't put heaps of makeup on, don't wear highheels if you want a guy who likes you in his big tshirt, fluffy hair and makeupless in the mornings. Also don't do sweettalk if you want a guy to love you for your intellegence. I found that with my female friends, that is their biggest mistake.
Hey Im with Ron White. If they are uglier than sin they can always get a new haircut or plastic surgery. But, you can't fix stupid. Thats why I married a good looking man with an IQ of 172. I didn't want to have to deal with plastic sugery, and I can't stand stupid.
does it look like I care how i spell or type? I'm not gonna get my feelings hurt over people critisizing (whatever) me over my grammar and type...
Over the internet..
if you do that or get your feelings hurt..get a life, lol.
i don't think there is a "certain" place to meet these types of guys...maybe i lucked out, but i think these guys are in bars, clubs, bible studies, coffee shops, etc...just gotta keep your standards high and your eyes peeled.
I don't really think it's fair to say there are no intelligent guys in dance clubs. It's just that most people who LIKE going to clubs aren't really there to show off their brains. They want to dance and flirt and drink and have a good time! I know lots of smart people who still enjoy just letting loose and partying. Who really wants to discuss quantum physics on the dance floor anyway? It's hard enough to communicate that you're going to the bathroom in the club, let alone trying to get in depth on any particular subject.
It sounds like what it boils down to is that you don't like clubs and you definitely don't like dancing or flirting with guys in that particular way, which (of course) is totally fine. BUT there are people that do, and that doesn't necessarily mean that they're stupid or shallow, they just happen to enjoy that atmosphere.
Also, having been down that street, the next time your friends try to drag you somewhere, tell them to buzz off and spend your night doing something you like instead. I spent far too many nights in college at coffee houses feeling just the way you do about clubs (except the stereotype was that all the guys were pretentious poseurs), instead of being out dancing which I would've much preferred. Totally not worth it!
Haha, wait till you get a nerd drunk, those can be really fun times. I remember a friend of mine (straight male, business major) who went to a marti gras festival with me, where men would throw beads to women, and the women would flash the men. My friend starting talking about how this was a perfect of the freerider problem market failure because there were guys recieving benefits (getting flashed) without paying (beads). It was pretty funny.

Um, rock shows? Rock clubs?
/Anyone remember that movie Singles? :)

I love nerdy guys! My current boyfriend is a hugggee nerd. I love being able to have an intelligent conversation instead of just talking about how drunk they got the night/week/month before, or how awesome UFC is.

Hahahah sooo true. I had a friend in high school that would go on and on about the details of string theory and why it was going to change the world and omgtheuniverseissoawesomeicantbelievewe'react uallyalive... etc. You pretty much had to get up and leave the room to make him stop talking about it. lol. It was worse when you got him high.
you don't have to get a nerd drunk to really get him going. just express an actual interest in what he's saying. and -- gasp -- ask him a question about it! if you love nerds (i'll take the history/philosophy/english nerds, thanks), you won't mind them going on and on about this stuff. it's their passion! and anyone who has passion about anything is awesome.
re drunk new orleans nerd: i did something kinda similar. back when dawn of the dead was in theaters i went to see it w/ a bunch of friends. well, after the movie we're all sitting around, talking about how cool it was, but the only thing on my mind was how the success of zombie movies was directly related to america as a superpower and how the changing global power shifts threatened our status, making not just politicos but the everyday citizen terrified of the possibility that we'd lose our power. everyone looked at me like i was crazy. but i really wanted to talk about it! and i was stone sober.
Yep, I surely do. Though it was more of grunge then Punk rock. I actually own the Singles Soundtrack, it's like the best of Grunge-bands-of-90s.
I have to admit though, I'd be afraid to go to rock shows/clubs alone. And not too many of my friends are into rock =/
For the OP, I know the guys you are looking for, but they are glued to their couch either a)studying b)playing guitar hero, or some random game. They have no money but when they do, they buy a new game. They only go out to go to class or to the store, which is a huge deal. And these aren't just stereotypes, I know guys like this, all my best friends from high school hehe.
As to where to find these guys, I don't really know. I found one when I was in high school, but then he went away to go to a good university.
I'd also have to add, stay away from the mainstream dance clubs and seek out bars and venues where local unsigned bands play. "Support your local scene" as the sticker says. Not only will you find guys with a genuine love of punk, but you might discover some great, if unknown music!
