Uh, what was I thinking when I ...
Ewww Cottage cheese!! I tried to like it. I like it if it's like in a dip or something. But by itself... definitely not. Just can't do it!
I hate it. Literally hate it. I have weird problems with certain foods (like literally having a phobia of mayonnaise and certain other condiments), and that's one of them.
I love the tubs of cottage cheese and pineapple... but on its own ick! You could always use the empty tub as a plantpot ![]()
Next time try the no salt added stuff! It is the only kind I will eat, and it is much better. Thicker texture, and actually tastes creamy.
It's very good mixed with PB =)
I know! When I was 13 my "boyfriend" used to eat it with a big spoon right out of the tub! Every time I saw him I wanted to gag.
I don't like cottage cheese raw either. But it's pretty good with some hot noodles and a tiny bit of feta and lots of fresh herbs. It melts and creates a really nice faux mac and cheese!
I find the full-fat version pretty salty tasting, but the 2% kind isn't nearly so salty to me for some reason.
I thought I hated it until I was for some reason possessed to buy some a few months ago. Now I love it.
I bought some for my son (hes 19 months old) because I figured it was a healthy snack for him...he so not fussy he eats EVERYTHING...Except cottage cheese LOL ive never seen him make such funny faces.
I hate cottage cheese too! yuk! And I really wanted to love it. I would watch my friends eat it with fruit and it looked sooo good! Just couldn't handle it.
It's the same with pickles for me. They look so juicy, crisp, cold, crunchy, refreshing.. .mmmmmmmm I try and I try to eat it and bleeeechhhh, I spit it out.
So, instead of pickles, I eat cucumbers and instead of cottage cheese I have yogurt. :)
I like what that sweetigem said about making the empty tub a planter. ha
It doesn't sound like you're going to investigate further but there can be a huge difference from brand to brand. I think Light-n-Lively is the vilest stuff under the sun but I really like Breakstone Fat Free. Before I found it, I would just go for the low fat stuff rather than fat free.
But if you hate it, what the heck. There are lots of other good healthy things out there to enjoy!
I find it pretty hard to stomach on it's own. However I looove it with a bit of splenda and half a cup of strawberries. I don't even notice the taste or texture then. It works great for me and I get the fat-free stuff so it doesn't have much of a taste.
Love it!!! Only plain or with tomatoes and salt & pepper. But it absolutely makes me gag with fruit or anything sweet or warm. The difference is wierd.
I have to admit that I love cottage cheese ... though I'm more of a savory cottage cheese eater - some seasoning salt and tomatoes ... yum! Fruit and cottage cheese - not so fond of .....
The brand does make a huge difference and even within the same brand you can buy it one time and it can be really creamy and the next time a bit 'rubbery' and dry ....
Oh, I also love it in lasagna .... YUMMY!
The texture is strange though and I totally get why some people don't like it! Like others have said, there are plenty of other foods out there that are equally as good for you ... life's too short to eat food that you don't enjoy ![]()
I adore cottage cheese, but even for me, there are certain brands that make me gag. I am very skittish about trying a new brand because they are so variable!
Also it must be fresh...if it's been in the fridge a week or more, forget it. Something happens to it and it's gross, even if it's still within the expiry date.
I have never tried to make it sweet or fruity. Yuck. I like it plain, with just a little pepper and maybe a sliced tomato.
I do find it salty sometimes...I think it depends on the batch cuz sometimes it's fine...ad I have yet to find a brand that offers low fat AND low sodium together. That's the case for many things, really, and a pet peeve of mine. If I am watching my fat intake, chances are I am health-minded and don't want to be pumped full of sodium thankyouverymuch!!
The Safeway Lucerne brand has a 1% No Salt Added Cottage Cheese.
I have it every morning. The downside, is that you can only get it at Safeway, and they're ALWAYS out of it (doesn't get much shelf space cause of the 15 other kinds of cottage cheese out there).
I.
Love.
Cottage Cheese!!!!
I think it's funny though that people either HATE it or LOVE it. It's never just in between.
I can definitely see how some people are disgusted by it, though. It's sort of like tuna; it's so bold but that can be a good thing or a bad thing.
I just love CC, though. :D Especially mixed with cocoa, cinnamon and splenda. MMM.
I was tramatized as a pudgy child by CC on half a peach. (remember that??) I've always said if that's the only way I can lose the weight, I'll just be fat.
sweetigem: cute idea for flower pots - ; ) always a positive outlook.
deplepfan: oh man, peanut butter just does not agree with me :/.
others who suggested salt free/reduced sodium, i have yet to see it at any market locally. odd, because I can stomach and work w/ ricotta.
susiekitten: lol. i recall years (i mean y e a r s) ago the folks eating cottage cheese on canned sugar laddened syruped peaches (never fresh). i was trying to recall what restaraunts served that: downtown friendly's and princess parlor i beleive served that. lol. perhaps watching it when i was a kid turned me. who knows.
Bottom line be, do eat what you do like that is healthy. I am sorry if I offended the cottage cheese lovers. howecer, I knew i wasn't alone on this. thanks for the ideas to try and make it better. perhaps shopping this weekend, i will look harder for reduced sodium and give it a whirl. if not, i
love
yogurt!!!
peace : )
i guess i was kind of hoping of someway to find to like this.
I don't like it either...
I eat it perhaps once or twice a year - with bananas (lol) and a bit of cocoa
