unable to work out right now, Can I still lose weight CC?
Doctor has told me to cease strenuous exercise until I have another cardiac work up.
Can I still lose weight with just calorie counting? :( I was doing so good, I don't want to backslide.
Thanks.
I don't exercise, and I've been losing weight just fine. You probably can too. :)
Thanks :)
The only exercise I get is typically at work, and a couple of days out of the week I lift weights for a small amount of time (I don't want to bulk up, just want to keep the muscle tone that I have), and if I can manage to find time to play it, I go to the local arcade and play some DDR (my cardio, haha). I have been losing weight--down 15 from my start date, down 5 since I joined CC after a month-long plateau--mostly by cutting calories. I may be losing weight a little slower than I intended to, but as long as I make sure I don't go over a certain amount of calories on the days where I'm practically inactive, and eat a few more calories on the day I am active, things even out by the end of the week.
Example: This week I've been jumping between 219-220lbs. For a few days it looked like I was going to get stuck at 220 because I was either eating too little or eating the same amount for too long of a period of time, so I changed it up a little bit, today I was around 219.3, and tomorrow is my official weigh-in. I have the feeling I'll see 218 tomorrow. =)
Well, your doctor said no strenuous exercise. He never said that you couldn't exercise at all. Try going for a walk, practicing yoga, or doing some mild weight training. You can probably still lose weight without any exercise, but you'd have to cut back on your calories seriously, and you would progress a lot more slowly.
I lost nearly 50 pounds with no exercise because of a heart problem. I wasn't allowed to do more than walk about 500 feet unless I was on a heart monitor. I started out at nearly 240 pounds in August of 2005, lost about 20 pounds, then joined CC in January of 2006, and lost more.
I had additional heart rythym problems and needed to have a defibrillator implanted, so I put weight loss on the back burner for a while. I've maintained at 185 pounds for over a year. I'm now well enough to try losing more weight, again with no exercise except slow walking. I'd like to get down to 140, but there is no rush.
It can be done, but you'll have to be very patient and accept slow weight loss. I promise you that losing that first 10% of excess weight will make you feel like a new person. Stay in close touch with your cardiologist and follow all instructions and take your medicine as directed.
Whatever you do, don't try to lose it quickly with a starvation diet! It will come right back.
Good Luck!
Sure you can! It just takes awhile. I was told not to do any cardio until all my labs and test were finished. I walk but not really fast enough to get my heart rate up into the optimum range.
I have been on my journey for a little over 2 years now. I was on Atkins for about 8 months then hit a plateau. I gave up and gained weight back. Then in September of 07 I started on a strictly caloric intake plan. From September to now I lost 45 pounds. I have lost 75 pounds total and do not do cardio. I hit a plateau when I got into the 160's, but this time I just rode it out and am back to losing. Without the exercise, my weight yo-yo's a lot. I will be down 3 pounds this week and back up 2 next week. So instead of marking my progress every week, I only do it once a month. It evens out and I have only had one month without a loss and that was during the plateau.
So just hang in there and you will reach your goal.
just cut the avg 450-600 bae and you will be fine!!!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
