Uncontrable urge to eat: Help! (pretty please)

Quote  |  Reply
I hate when I get that feeling! I can't explain it...I can't explain it! I just want to eat and eat and eat and eat. It's as if I have this big black hole inside of me that is waiting (demanding) to be filled with burgers, chips, fries, pizza, tacos, chalupas...

I am not bored...I am not lonely, I am not depressed...what the heck is it?????? I know something is wrong...I have had this desire to cry today....it's weird. I hugged my husband and I wanted to cry. I saw a commercial and I wanted to cry...maybe it's hormones. Someone help!

By the way...I haven't given in. I am at 1029 calories for the day...please God don't let me get over 1200. Please.

relax
are you craving something salty?
maybe some peanuts will do
something sweet
some dark chocolat will do the trick
if still think of what you have accomplish till today and be proud of yourself
take care of yourself
good luck

Some tips to get through this

A) Stay busy.  Whether it's.. with a video game or a book or exercising or whatever, keeping yourself away from the food might help

B) Drink Drink Drink - maybe you're overtired or over thirsty. Drinking some water can't hurt :) For some, drinking water seems to help fill people up.

C) Chew Gum - It keeps your mouth busy.

D) Go find a friend or boyfriend to talk to. You're obviously riding an emotional wave. It doesn't have to make sense, it just is. Go find someone to commiserate with. Maybe he or she can help you through it.

Good luck! :)
How did you arrive at the 1200 calorie figure?  Did you use the tools here to determine your expenditure?  The reason I ask is, it might just be that you are truely hungry and need to eat.

Also, you might be able to eat more with fewer calories.  Read this from the Mayo Clinic about Calorie Density

Hope it helps!
Thank you all so much. I needed to hear something from people who might have gone through the same thing.
A few things came to mind.  Water, fruit, and a good multi-vitamin.

About a year ago, I read an article about hunger and what brought it on.  Often time, if your body lack of some type of nutrient (lets say it's some vitamin that doesn't come from a lot of food), it will signal you to eat.

Hey!  Join our tea club!  lol  Lots of us love tea and green tea can be very beneficial to your body!
I am not hungry...I just want to eat.

I have eaten so far today:

Breakfast A   Shapy Fitness shake  (90 calories)

Lunch

Whole Wheat Pasta/ Broccoli 254 grams at  256 calories

Chicken, Breast, Meat Only - Cooked, Stewed 76grams at  115  calories

Dinner   Chicken, Breast, Meat Only - Cooked, Stewed 90 grams at

136 calories

Whole Wheat Pasta with broccoli 174 grams at 176 calories

Snacks

1 plum

3 clementines

1 kiwi

and one mini ice cream at 125 calories
You need to vary that diet.  Maybe your body is just bored with what its getting and needs more.  More veggies, more fruit.  You probably get enough protein, but what about fiber?  Where is the calcium (maybe in the shake?).

>>>I am at 1029 calories for the day...please God don't let me get over 1200. Please.<<<

Umm... the MINIMUM you should eat each day, and this is after calculating what you lose after exercise, is 1200.  So you should be going over, not under.
....skids in late...

are you still not smoking?  didn't you quit cold turkey?

well, the brain goes through real chemical changes that will last awhile...

the urge to eat is emphasized.  the physical cravings for nicotine come through the brain as an urge to eat.

throw in pms... triple whammy!

also, the brain gets emotional and cranky for awhile... and that also pings as wanting to eat...

so... trust me... this will get better but you will be going through this for awhile....

what to do...  get plenty of sleep. that is the best antidote.  when you are feeling restless, exercise.  get out and walk or jog around the block.  punch a punching bag, pillow fight, mud-wrestling.  do something physical.

when you are aggravated, irritable... take intentional actions to destress, like deep breaths... bubble baths (or mental bubble baths), count to 10.  calm yourself.  do some stretching, read a book.  have hot cocoa. have a bananana....

trust me... you are going through normal changes...  so hang on and keep up the gr8 work!!!  you will live through this and it will get much better!!! promise!

Yes I am still not smoking! (Thank God)

I am getting on average 24-27 grams of fiber a day (on a normal day). The shake does have calcium. I normally have a high fiber cereal in the morning (50 grams of cereal with 9 grams of fiber) but I didn't have time this morning.

Thanks United. I hadn't thought of that. It is tough not smoking. The strange thing is that I don't have that many urges to smoke (not since I past week 2...now ending my fifth week).

Well, hubby and I are going into town for a change of scenery. Thank you all again for the support. Thank you.

I remember getting this urges all the time when I wasn't thinking about what I ate...but I would just indulge. Eat what ever I saw. It is a bit strange analzying that urge instead of just complying.

Thanks again.
{{{hugs}}}

it can get complicated.  sometimes the brain & the tummy lie to us!  especially when quitting sickerettes or over-eating.

best to make a reasonable eating plan, meals with snacks and then follow that.  then you know you are eating enough.  if it's time to eat, then nourish yourself.  if not... then time to distract ourselves ;)

have a good day out! sounds like fun :)
