Hey all.....here is my problem. I work out daily cardio ( elliptical/bike) 80 mins a day ( -700 calories) I also do weight training at the gym for about 40 minutes.

when all is said in done, my daily calories are only +500 or 600.

Is this putting my body in starvation mode? I am not hungry but i eat a salad with chicken for dinner an apple for a snack and maybe a subway salad for lunch.

Help me increase my calories and appetite!

That is why you are not getting in enough calories. Eating breakfast literally starts up your metabolism for the day. I could easily go through lunch and into the afternoon without eating a thing when I used to not eat breakfast. But now, when I do eat it, I am always hungry but mid-morning or lunchtime at the latest. This is a good sign. My body is using the energy I put into it.

Try eating breakfast, even if it's only a few bites-- make it something you LOVE. Since you are under eating anyway, it doesn't necessarily have to be something low calorie.

thank you so much for the suggestion. I will try it, hopefully that will jump-start my appetite!!!

Thanks!

You must eat some more, especially with that work out load!

I work out for 96-100 minutes a day and I eat only lunch & dinner but hefty portions, let me tell you!

I typically have roughly 12 ounces of some sort of lean protein at lunch - grassfed beef or bison or ostrich or elk or venison.....something that holds me over all the way until dinner which is normally around 6:30 or 7.....at this meal I have another hefty portion of meat - 12 ounces or so of fish, chicken, turkey, or any of the above meats - but also have veggies to get my fiber intake to where it is suppose to be...and trust me, I DO! hahaha! I eat like a horse! Everyone is so shocked that I can eat so much, but...I guess it would come in handy if...I were in an eating contest? haha!!!

But Honestly: You need to UP you calories....even if you keep the meals: Put a nice healthy salad dressing on that chicken salad, such as something with olive oil & mustard or flax-oil & mustard! Do not buy premade dressing because who knows what ingredients are in those! Watch out for that sugar!!!

By doing this you will see a nice muscle gain which will make your body stunning!

giasbash6260, you work out that much and don't eat breakfast or snacks???

eat a subway sandwich instead of a salad...the whole wheat bread will add 200 calories.

eat a banana instead of an apple for a snack, or better yet, eat both.

EAT BREAKFAST, as was already suggested (should be mandated).

add whole grain carbs to your dinner...a cup of brown rice is good.

I'm always rushed in the morning, and used to skip breakfast like you (just having coffee).  But I got into the habit of making a breakfast shake that gives me good calories, protein, and carbs.  The best part is that it's so easy to "eat" on the run.  If you don't want to make your own shake, look into Ensure or Ensure Plus.  In only 8oz, it gives 350 calories.    The generic ones in the meal supplement section of the supermarket are only about $1 a piece.  One of those in the morning (plus maybe a breakfast bar) would give you a good start and might increase your appetite later in the day.  Good luck
thanks for all the info. I must do something because, I find the weight dropping off and I would like to maintain, where I am at. currently I am 5'6 125, and hoping to build more muscle. ( 19 % BF)

the breakfast thing is doing the trick......I definatly have a lot more energy and it also jump starts my appetite for the day!

in regards to calories i am avergaing about 900 now a day. So I am a work in progress.
