Hi.

I started this thread a couple of years ago and since then I've fallen off the bandwagon..*ahem* a few times. But I'm back (again) and I will need all the motivation I can get! haha Iwillnotfalloff...Iwillnotfalloff...I will not fall off!

SO here's basically the same post i made many moons ago:

There are not many groups for younger people, I guess because we're kind of the minority on this site (or so it seems at least). Further, I have never seen a group to really motivate those who are both young, with more than a little shaping up to do (10-15 lbs)

My name is Amelia I am 18 years-old, 5'9, 232 lbs, and my first goal is to be 199(not in the 200s!) by my cap and gown graduation ceremony, in December. I live in Newfoundland, Canada and I'm eager to get this show on the road!

So, if you want to join, leave your

Name(or nickname if you'd rather):

Biggest Motivation:

I'm not expecting big thing from this group seeing hopw little of the Calorie count population fits this criteria...but any help is good help! strengh in numbers? good things come in small packages? Too many cooks spoil the broth? (I'm trying!)

We should also have a weekly weigh in, to add a little extra umph and support

How about a Friday weigh? post your:

Hi Amelia!

Like you said, it looks like there are not many of us. We will have to stick together :)

Nickname: Applemilk1
Height/weight: 5'7, 157 lb
Goal: 132 (thereabouts - will see what it looks like and adjust from there)
Age: 19
Location: Australia
Biggest motivation: Just getting this right once and for all - putting an end to the 4 year diet-binge cycle. Getting to wear better clothes, being healthier etc.

Start weight: 163 lb
Current weight: 157 lb
Pounds left until goal: 25

I weigh myself every Thursday, but I will happily report my thursday weight on Fridays (which I've put down as my current weight)

Yay!

Thanks for starting this!

Nickname: Anemos
Height/weight: 5'7, 195 lb
Goal: 150 (for now)
Age: 24
Location: Virginia
Biggest Motivation: I'm going on a week-long cruise with my boyfriend and a group of friends in the middle of January 2010. I don't want to be the only one not wearing a bikini! This may be my main motivation, but I'm using it as a BIG push towards a healthy lifestyle/choices.

I weigh myself every morning, but I'll try to remember to update every Friday. Cool

Start weight: 200
Current weight: 195
Pounds left until goal: 45

hey guys! it's good to see that we have a little group starting off here!

we'll make next Friday officially week one for weigh ins, thats the 14th. :)

so to start up some converstation here:

What do you like to do for exercise?

for me, I've just been walking. The weather has been so so nice lately and I cant help but take advantage. I start at University in a month, and gym membership there is part of the tuition (only $40 a semester!) so I really hope to be taking advantage of that too. But I'm not sure what its like there... so maybe i'll end up joining the one near my house anyway.

oh yeah...i ramble alot

I'm in! i can always use all the motivation I can get!

Height/weight: 159, 5'7
Goal: 135
Age: 20
Location: AZ
Biggest Motivation: I want to feel better about my body and feel confident all the time! I'm in college and am constantly surrounded by stick thin girls, and I would just like to be healthier (not stick thin!) to feel confident in social situations.

Start weight: 159
Current weight: 159
Pounds left until goal: 24!

I'm pretty active exercise-wise: i like to run a mile on the treadmill and do the elliptical or stationary bike when I go to the gym, and then at home i do the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I also like to go on a hike with my dog that ends up being around 2.6 miles. Swimming laps is always fun too! Of course, I don't do all of this in one day! I switch up my routine with these options.

Hahah nearly all of us are 5'7.

Exercise...well, I ride my bike to and from uni everyday (2 x 10km) for the last 3 weeks and am hoping to keep it up till the end of semester (November). On Saturdays I play netball and on Sundays I try to go for a ride or a walk but don't always end up following through due to hangovers and what not haha.

I think exercise is so important for me...the daily ride keeps me on track. I don't think I could do a diet/lifestyle change without exercise, because it's just so much more enjoyable than cutting out foods, and actually makes me WANT to keep going.

(I ramble too)

Well seeing as I'm the only 5'9, you will all need to get 2 inch heels then.(just so were even)

I was just bowling with my friends... that was fun.. but hardly exercise haha. especially when you factor in that even if we were there for an hour, I only bowled for a third of that. :P 104 calories burned.

But I may now go take a walk up to the drugstore to buy a few things.  Exercise is way more fun when it ends in new makeup! :)

P.S: Welcome scbabe!

I want in!I will be the odd [short] one out!

Height: 5' 3"

Age: 23

Start weight: 235

Current weight: 199

Goal weight: 150

My biggest motivation: I married young at 20, and gained about 80 pounds. I want to drop the weight and learn how live healthy before I have kids.

For exercise, I gave up all luxuries and hired a personal trainer. I weight train 2 days a week and do cardio (treadmill/ elliptical) 3-4 days a week.  I'm a pastry chef, so a healthy diet is almost impossible :) I'm trying though!

Apple, what is netball?

Hi everyone :). I'm in, this thread is a good idea. Some of you have quite similar statistics to me (apart from age)

Name: Sibyl

Height/weight: 5'7"/162 lbs

Goal weight: 135 or 130 most likely

Age: 15

Location: Toronto, ON

Biggest Motivation: I want to stop feeling like the ungraceful, unattractive fat girl. My body image has never been very good, and that seeps into other areas of my life (jobs, romance, friends, etc) because I suck at being confident. I know weight loss doesn't necessarily fix bad self esteem, but it will probably be way easier to like myself when I accomplish this.

Oh and for exercise, I mostly just go for walks, and sometimes I lift weights while dancing around, do yoga, and do calisthenics. Tomorrow is my first trip to the gym...I'm a little nervous about people being way more fit than me. eeep.

cait, netball is probably most similar to basketball. it's the most popular girl's sport in australia, and i think its very popular in new zealand and canada (?). the main differences are that you are only allowed in certain areas of the court depending on your position (e.g. you can't go in the goal circle or shoot goals unless you are a shooter), you cannot run with the ball or bounce it, and you can only hold the ball for 3 seconds before you pass it. it sounds pretty boring and slow, but believe me, it isnt.

sibylisvain - we have the exact same stats pretty much! i had pretty much the same starting weight as you just 2 weeks ago, and we have the same goal weight. coolio.

also, i did NOT used to do as much exercise as this. i'm not an exercise fanatic, but i'm sort of trying to be one, haha. Back in highschool I was obsessed with sport...i was way fitter and a lot thinner, and i sort of lost that after a year at uni...just trying to erase the 30 pounds that came along with the laziness.

i like this group :)

Firstly, welcome to the group sibylisvain & caiteliz !!

Applemilk, that sounds alot like handball... is it similar? I used to play that but a loong time ago, in like junior high and elementary gym class. I loved it! hehe

Back in High School, haha rather 3 months ago, I was fairly active, and now I'm afraid that at 210-230 pounds in my high school years, THAT will be the weight I look back on as my "fittest" which is kind of scary and a huge motivation!

I was on the ice hockey team ( I joined on a whim, only having skated before, when I was in grade 10 I was absolutely, but i improved to just an uncoordinated mess ) dance team, and I took dance classes outside of school. I had been dancing since i was 4 and it became a HUGE part of who I am. But I always told myself that once I graduated, I would quit because it costs my parents a lot of money, and I need to focus on studying. I actually get pretty emotional thinking about it... I was a near 230 lbs ooof trying to pass for a ballerina, but my weight didn't matter to me, I'd stand next to my classmates, most absolutely beautiful and 110 lbs, but as long as I was dancing, it didn't matter.

rrrrrrambling again, sorry

Welcome everyone and happy Friday! Smile

I've never been really active, but I loved running around outside when I was a kid. I also took horse-back riding lessons for 10 years, but that's not an option for me right now. My favorite exercise at the gym is the elliptical. I've tried the treadmill, but I'm so uncoordinated/klutzy that I've come close to hurting myself on it ...

I just started HIIT last week and it kicked my butt. I tried it on the stationary bike and tomorrow I think I'll do it on the elliptical. I have Wii Fit and the 30 Day Shred DVD, but neither have been appealing recently.

I've been poking around trying new things. One of the things that has been keeping me motivated is that I've been sticking to the things that I enjoy and makes me feel good. I love taking walks, but I hate doing it alone and none of my friends or my boyfriend want to go with me. Cry I'm hoping that once I can afford one, I can get a dog to take walks with!

What's everyone's favorite healthy meal? Recently, I've been making a big batch of "chili". It's about 5-6 servings and I can heat it up for dinner if I'm not cooking for my boyfriend or take some to work. Basically it consists of a can of diced tomatoes and black or red beans. I'll throw in perhaps a sweet potato and a carrot and some spices. If I add meat it'll be chicken. Just a small serving of this with a salad or some other green really fills me up!

Wow, that turned into a long post .. I think I'll stop for now lol

Name(or nickname if you'd rather): Jessie-Leigh
Height/weight: 5'3" and 138 lbs
Goal: 120 lbs
Age: 20
Location: Toronto, Canada
Biggest Motivation: I want to be able to fit into all my really nice clothes again. I was thin all through highschool and wore about a size 4. Just when my wardrobe started getting really good and I had a nice collection going, I started gaining weight and now only 10% of my clothing fits me. I want to wear those clothes again, feel comfortable + toned and I'm looking forward to seeing all my friends again when I get back to University next month.

Start weight: 153
Current weight: 138
Pounds left until goal: 18 (hope to reach this around the beginning of Nov.)

For exercise, I like to have some variety. I try to get at least SOME form of physical exercise each day - at the bare minimum, I will go for a 30 minute brisk walk through the park.

About 4 or 5 times a week I visit the gym where I do 30 to 60 minutes of cardio, usually I aim for 60. I start with 30 minutes on the stationary bike at around 95rpm and medium resistance (80 watts average, though I do the 'random hill program' that changes the watts every 2 minutes). After I'm done the bike, I stretch my legs and rest for a couple of minutes before going on the treadmill. I run for 15 minutes, walk for 5, and then run for another 10 minutes to total 25 minutes of jogging. Sometimes if I'm up for it, I run for the whole 30 minutes without taking a break.

If I'm bored of the gym or feel like being outside, I often opt for a long (60-90 minute) powerwalk through the park. Sometimes if I have enough energy I will alternate 10 minutes of jogging with 10 minutes of walking until I have completed 70 minutes total. Jogging outdoors is much better for you, especially on uneven/gravelly surfaces because it takes more effort for your body to balance. It's something I am trying to get myself to do more often, but it's quite difficult when compared to treadmill jogging.

Wheeww that was long!! Will update with weight next friday.

Welcome Jessie-Leigh!

I really love to run and I couple of years ago I started the couch to 5k plan.I really enjoyed it, has anyone else done that?

but now I think I'd be far too embarrassed to run outside again (not to mention there are hills everywhere where I live) so I'll have to start on the treadmill until I can build up some stamina

Cait, I have heard that it is similar to handball actually! I have never actually seen handball played though, I don't think its that popular my neck of the woods.

Welcome to the new members :)

Jessie leigh, your program sounds really good. I would be surprised if you don't lose weight pretty quickly with all the exercise you're getting (obviously I'm no expert, but you know..). I'm with you - I can't WAIT to wear nice clothes...though I've been gaining this weight for a long time now, so I don't have a whole lot of nice stuff in my wardrobe. I figure I will re-fill it when I finally reach my goal.

anemos - my favourite healthy food...would probably be omlette with heaps of vegetables mixed in. i live at home so my mum makes pretty good dinners, healthyish curries etc. and i do appreciate a good salad, with beans and chick-peas and feta and pinenuts... ohhh i love food.

amelia - do you think you will dance in the future? you sound like you miss it a lot. its such a pity how difficult it is for you to do something you love :(

As for me, I'm going pretty good. A bit concerned about the weigh in on Friday, seeing as I had a huuuuge Saturday night, which was followed by a pretty dismal Sunday - I am never able to hold back when I'm hungover. But we'll see.

I am getting better at managing my impatience. I feel the rolls of fat on my stomach when I sit down and instead of feeling discouraged and doomed to be like this forever, I just think "yeah, but they'll be gone in a few months." It's funny how sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and think it is so unfair that I'm not thin when I've been trying so hard to lose weight - but then I remember that I've only been doing this for 3 weeks (today actually). And I have lost a totally fair amount of weight in that time - as much as to be expected with what I'm doing. My ability to pass the blame of failure rather than just take responsibility is just ridiculous sometimes.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I am so in! I joined this site a long time ago, and I wanted to lose weight then...and well...I slacked off and gained more weight. So count me in!

Name(or nickname if you'd rather): Maryam, but everyone calls me Em
Height/weight: 5'2, 146 pounds
Goal: 120
Age: 19
Location: Toronto, Canada
Biggest Motivation: Showing off to my ex-boyfriend that I am so hot, and that he is going to regret breaking up with me

Start weight: 146
Current weight: 146
Pounds left until goal: Err, I don't know how to calculate...26?

Well, like I said, I found this site a looonngg time ago, and I lost some weight, but I slacked off, and since entering University I'm pretty sure I gained 10 or so pounds, on top of the weight that I already wanted to lose. So...I'm ready to lose some weight before I go back to Uni so that I can show off to my ex, that I still am hot, that and so I can look good for myself. I recently started a workout by Shaun T (Beachbody) called Insanity, and I do that about 6 times a week!

hello hello.

welcome!

I've been a bit of a ghost here lately, but I'm glad to see everyone is doing fine. I had a bit of a slump these past couple days, they have not been necessarily bad ones though. Just hanging out with friends non-stop and not having counted for 2 days straight! (but its under control! ;) )

I bought a scale today. woo-hoo! haha I was getting sick of my stupid analog one! I am no longer "greater than 224 but less than 227" but a delightfully accurate 225.6! Luckily my scale has a funky little programming feature that  tells me  that I'm obese (for my height, age and gender) in big old letters.

But I'm a work in progress... I'm down this week from 232! like 6.4 pounds!

Finally, I just wanted to share with you a method I use to keep my sanity: I write a once sentence journal every night.  I have been writing one on a personal level for a few months and I think its really wonderful to keep a record of events, feelings, and revelations in my life.  I've started a second, weight loss oriented one as my journal on this site and its really great for me for motivation! I really recommend it. Just everyday, make a statement about your life as a loser, gainer or maintainer and thats it! And then, in a years time, when were all beautiful(er) with the bodies of our dreams (or at least still working on it!) we can look back and take from the mistakes, and achievements were making right now.

Name(or nickname if you'd rather): Janz
Height/weight: 5'10" & 182lbs

Goal: 139lbs (cc recommended it)
pounds 2 go: 43
Age: 21
Location: SD
Biggest Motivation: skirts & heels. my legs need toning. BAD.

i wish instead of a mealplan i could get like a $1000 gift card to subway for the entire year.

also, i don't have a scale with me. i won't be able to participate in weigh-ins until i go back to college. grr. but i was 182 at the doctors on tuesday, while wearing clothes. so yeah.

*pokes thread back to life*

Happy Friday everyone!

Start weight: 200
Current weight: 193
Pounds left until goal: 43

This has been a good week and I'm very satisfied with how things have been going. Tonight and tomorrow are going to be the really challenge. Going to the bar both nights and I tend to eat if there's food around when I'm bored. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and his big mouth told our friends that I'm on a "diet". Ugh ... I'll be good though and have a healthy filling dinner so I don't snack. Hopefully, no one will saying anything if I don't eat or eat like one fry. It's very unnerving for me to have people say things about my eating habits. Wish me luck!

Start weight: 146
Current weight: 145.6
Pounds left until goal:25.4

I'm not so happy with my results, but then again I did weigh myself Monday, so..maybe I'll lose some more next week?

Anemos: Don't you worry! That sucks that your boyfriend blabbed, but you can do it, and don't worry about eating one fry! Don't forget to have fun!

Hello everyone!

Name: Ree
Height/weight: 5'4/167lbs
Goal: 143lbs (will change to 132 if all goes better than planned.)
Age: 23
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Biggest Motivation: Fitting into my skinny jeans. I don't take measurements of myself and various body parts, and looking in the mirror is tricky because you don't always notice the change when it's happening gradually, but being able to put on a pair of pants you previously could only get halfway up your thighs, or realising a jacket you love fits comfortably around you... that's the greatest feeling ever.

Start weight: 180
Current weight: 167
Pounds left until goal: 24 (as of this week!)
