Underactive Thyroid
hey all,
I had a blood test today to check if I have an underactive thyroid and I have to wait a week for the results. I'm kinda nervous because I think it could be positive, if it is then it would explain a lot of things and I could hopefully fix them. If not, well I don't really know what's going on with my body.
Has anyone got Hypothyroidism?
If so, what were your symptoms like before and how are you now its treated?
Please I would like to know cause I think it might ease my mind a little even if I'm worrying over nothing, thanks in advance! xxx

I had my results this morning and it turns out that I have borderline hypothyroidism at about 4.5
I'm not really sure what to do with that, It's not high enough to need medication yet but I am gonna need more blood tests to keep an eye on it.
My symptoms are making me really tired and probably a bit of a grouch and a bore to be around cause I don't really concentrate on what people are saying and always blame it on how tired I am. All my other blood tests came back fine so I'm perfectly healthy apart from this.
Is anyone in this situation who can help me out? Cheers all xxx
4.5 is not borderline. You have hypothyroidism. What many doctors fail to do today is see us as individuals and not a clinical normal. You have all the signs and warnings along with a higher end of normal TSH level. YOu r thyroid is sluggish and you need to supplement with hormone replacement aka Synthyroid. You will continue to gain weight and have all the horrible side effects until you get you Tsh levels as close to 1.0 as possible. I finally found a doctor that treats me as a patient and not a number and it made all the difference. I am taking 200mcg of thyroid which is alot while other doctors would only give me enough to keep me coming back. I do hope all works out for you. Get a second opinion... It never hurts....
Best of luck!!!!
I agree, the memory loss is very difficult to deal with. Sometimes I really think I'm lossing my mind! LITERALLY! People probably think I'm nuts!

How did you find your doctor?
I have hypothyroidism, and was diagnosed about a year ago, but I hate my doctor. I went to him because my GD recommended him, and because he is renowned, locally at least.
I feel like he just looks at my lab results, gives me a new prescription and tells me to come back with new lab results in a 6 months. Without the internet (and my mom, who also has hypothyroidism), I would know nothing about my condition, because the guy doesn't talk. If I'm in his office for more than 20 seconds, it's a miracle.
I want a new doctor, but I don't want to just look in the yellow pages and risk getting another doctor that treats me like a number.
