Understanding the calorie/weight/burn better!

Quote  |  Reply

I woke up this morning........straight to the scales.  Pleased over a 2 lb. loss after about ten days of steady scales!  Then I logged on and there was the Burn Meter and it is now only allowing me 1790 a day.  (minimun 1200 to lose)  Now I have visually seen why the lower your weight is, the more difficult it is to lose weight.  The exercise addition to the burn meter looms more and more important and it is definitely my weak spot.  Having said that, it is great to have a tool that puts it on the line, you know what is happening and it is up to you to "just do it".

Even half an hour of something reasonably energetic each day is going to bump that 1790 a day to a more respectable level.  Going from 'sedentary' to 'light' activity makes a massive difference to your weight-loss chances.   Good technique if you're not likely to turn into a gym-bunny any time soon is to invest in a simple pedometer.  Aim to get 10,000 steps a day and it's really effective.... no need to 'feel the burn', just 'feel the pavement'. Thanks Jane,

And you are so right a gym bunny I will never be!  But I do like hiking and I can make myself ride a stationary bike...........and I am committed to doing it.  I am getting into some clothes I had put away and it is a treat!

I'm afraid I don't understand what the burn meter is. Is it telling me how much I need to burn today or how much I did burn?

haha wow thanks guys, i so did NOT understand why my burn meter was going down.

I started a few weeks ago at 125 pounds and it told me my burn meter was 2100, and then this morning i looked at it an i'm 119 pounds and it told me 1900. i was like hey thats not fair, and i didn't understand that as i got smaller it is harder and harder to loose weight.

so thanks for your help!!

xx

The burn meter tells you how many calories someone at your age, weight, activity level will burn in an average day.  If you eat less calories than this average you should lose weight.  A deficit between 500 and 1000 will be optimal to lose weight, however as you get smaller you will lose weight slower because you must stay above 1200 or 1500 depending on who you ask.

Hope that helps.

How can I make walking fun?

You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
