Am I really underweight?

I went to the doctor and she said I was borderline underweight at 19% BMI. Is that true? I'm 127 lb, 5'7" tall. I feel like this is not accurate information coming from my doctor. I know I have a larger frame, but still, it doesn't sound right.
Answer
Depending on your frame-size you could be 10 lbs underweight, although you are within the healthy BMI range. At 5'7", normal weight is 121-153 lbs, with roughly 121-133 lbs for a small frame, 134-145 lbs for a medium frame, and, for a large frame, 146 - 159 would be fine. (Of course, exceptions apply.) My advice to you is to build muscle by weight-training. Your weight will increase a bit, but your physique will become more compact. In addition, you'll be stronger, your bones will be dense and you will get to eat more food because muscle burns calories.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
