It's just unexplainable to me...

For the past few months I've been eating a good 1200 a day. (Not quite..went a bit overboard yesterday at my brother's birthday, but not too bad). I'm exercising 6 times a week (1x weight training mixed with aerobics for 1 1/2 hours and 5x jogging for 30 minutes)
So here's my problem (mm..actually two):
  1. I haven't got my period for almost 4 months now (if it doesn't come this month it's the 4th time)
  2. Recently I've noticed more hair loss than normally.
I tried to schedule an appointment at a gyno last month but the earliest he could offer me was on July 12th. I told him I would already be in the States then but he couldn't do anything for me...:o(
What would you do if you were me? Any advice..I'm a bit worried because I'm eating enough and healthy for weight loss.

My stats: almost 19; 166 cm or 5'5'', 130 lbs or 59kg

I think you do need to see the doctor. 130 pounds at 5'5" is a healthy weight and 1200 calories is adequate, although you could and should eat more if you are trying to maintain, not lose weight. In other words, I don't think that the problem is related to diet.

Good luck!
I'd probably try to up my calorie intake more since you say you work out six times a week. Or maybe up your fat intake (good fats like unsaturated fats) and see what happens. Sounds to me like you may be malnourished if hair is falling out and you haven't had your period. Good luck!
Sorry I forgot to mention...I'm eating back most of the calories I'm burning from exercise.
Thanks for all your quick responses....I will be in the States in a little less than 12 days. I don't think I can go see a doc there cause I'll be on the Visa Waiver program.
I eat back all of my calories as well. I've gotten my period less than two times in the past 1.5 years. Exercise is the culprit, your body just doesn't find it suitable to be able to allow itself to become "fertile" to carry a child during this "aggressive" lifestyle. I wouldn't fret too much about it at this point, visiting a Gyno would not hurt either. My belief is that your body will balance itself out when you ease up on the work-outs, cardio especially.
Just remember to take calcium (and biotin supplements if you find hair loss to be starting up) amongst other vitamins you may be losing. It may have something to do with your estrogen levels because of your ammenorhea.
ALSO, haha, 1200 is waaay too long for the things you're putting your body through, girl!!
I eat 2,000 on my LOW days and I think on an average count I do much less cardio than you, and increase my weight training 2-3 times a week.

1,200 is proper nutrition for a child, survival mode. Essentially you need to look at complete ability to perform and an overall excellent health. Wouldn't hurt to up your cals (start slow :) )
Yeah, ever since I realized my hair falling out and having no period I am taking a vitamin supplement every day in the morning...(that's mainly folic acid, iodine and Vitamin B's...Calcium I think I get enough b/c I'm having cereals with milk and a yoghurt every day.....*I'm lost*
I probably should up my calories slowly....But I don't really have to try cause I always gain weight when I come to America even if I eat healthy...Dunno why
um take a pregancy test
Thanks for seeing that from a different angle but there's no way that I could be pregnant...:0)
Your lack of period could be caused by things outside of your diet - if your dr can't get you in soon enough, find another doctor that can!  Even a family doctor can run some test for you and assist on your hairloss...  good luck!
Over here, we have urgent care clinics that we can go to in case we can't get in to see our doctor.  You probably have something equivalent over there.  At the least, they could run some blood work and rule out obvious causes, nutritional imbalances should show in the blood work.

Also, you could go to any gyno that your plan covers who can see you before you come over.  It's a pain to have to call 20 offices, but if it gets you an appointment, it's worth it.

go to your Dr. and make sure your iron is at a normal level. BOTH of the things your having trouble with are a sign of low iron or anemia....get it checked out. Its not a big deal and easily treated IF that is what is wrong
You really should go get checked out by a doc.  You don't want to "wait and see" for too long with this stuff as it can be permanantly detrimental to your health.  Not to scare you, there could also be nothing more wrong than a nutritional imbalance that can easily be fixed.  Either way, a doc is the only way you'll know for sure and, as with all health issues, the earlier you catch it the better! :)  Good luck!
Your diet sounds ok to me. No period and a hair loss can be a lot of other things, and you should go see the doctor asap. really.
I'm adding my voice to the others: you need to see a doctor. Meanwhile, I think you should up your calorie intake and maybe slow down your exercise. Maybe your BMI is below 18% (which would explain the loss of your period.) It doesn't seem so when I checked it using online calculators but these are not reliable if you're the muscled type.
I have that problem... but I know mine is because of my low weight (i'm recovering from an ED...)  but I donno... probably see a doctor as soon as possible is your best bet!! You don't want anything to be seriously wrong w/ you! :(
Guys, I really appreciate your help a lot!! I'll call my family doctor tomorrow as soon as I get up! I'm feeling more relaxed now. I love this community! :0)
Also, i missed a period for 4 months.  When i finnally went to the doctor she said it was stress related.  I had some issues, and no period just make me stress more and more.  So, calm yourself, and i am sure you will be fine.
get your thyroid checked!
