Unexplained weight gain? Any thoughts?
Okay, I'm fairly new to maintaining, but had remained at 147-148lbs for just over two months now eating 1200-1400cals. A few weeks ago I posted a worry that I hadn't lost a 3lb gain (weekend of a meal out & some beers). This was a 'normal' gain for me and it was usually gone a few days later. It took a week or so that time and I put it down to water & totm.
Over the last 4-5days, my weight has again jumped to 150lbs, for no obvious reason (not totm, no beers/meals out, drinking plenty of water but not too much?) I'm not exercising atm so it's not 'muscle' gain? It's not due to 'toilet' issues, and I haven't changed my 'foods' (i.e. I'm not eating 'heavier' foods that are slowing up my system?)
Any thoughts on this gain? I'm a bit annoyed now as I was doing so well, and the temptation is there to drop my cals to see if it'll help- even though I know that'd be a step back?
Typical human body is 60-70% water. This can change slightly at any time depending on how well hydrated we are and hence why we can be 2lbs heavier or lighter on any given day. It's also why people are advised to aim for a range of weights rather than just one. In your case, it seems that if you're between 146 and 150lbs that's 'normal'. 4 or 5 days is not sufficient time to judge so stay off the scales and eat/drink normally.
Hmm, maybe? Maybe the first few weeks was my 'settling in' period, and now my body is getting 'used' to being this weight, and this will be 'my' weight range? I could cope with a range of 4-5lbs, but if it gets any higher I will panic I think? LOL!
Thanks Jane (ever the voice of reason & wisdom!), I guess I need to stop being nervy and have faith I can do this? My idea was to maintain this weight for a while, then try to get to my 'ultimate' goal of 133lbs (give or take a few lbs! I'd be happy with anything under 140lbs!), so I'm thinking if I can't even maintain at this weight, how on earth will I ever get to goal!
Need to take a deep breath.....
Thanks again!
Maybe you aren't eating enough. 1200-1400 is a low-calorie weight loss diet, not a maintenance level. I suspect if you ate around 1700 your weight might go up a few pounds but then you would begin to lose again as your metabolism kicked back into gear.
