Unflavored protein powder?
I've been looking into getting some protein powder to add into my food. I do strength training regularly and I know I am not getting enough protein to take care of my muscles and what my body would normally require. I'd rather not do the protein shake though, I loooove to cook and think it'd be better to get my calories from my (healthy) homemade stuff instead of a 200+ calorie shake. However, I can't seem to find any unflavored protein powder (granted, I haven't looked very hard yet :) ) I was at Target today and only saw vanilla and chocolate flavored varieties.
Does anyone here cook with protein powder? I was thinking I could add some to baked goods, sauces, pasta dishes, etc. Would I have to go to a nutrition store to find some? I'd love to hear your advice!
Up in Canada here I looked around for one that had nothing artificial in it, especially artificial sweeteners. I went to several stores before I finally found one by North Coast Naturals. It's made with natural ingredients only and the whey protein only comes in vanilla and chocolate. They also make a soy and a hemp protein powder, and I think both of them are organic and plain. Look around and see if you can find it near you. I found it at the bulk food store of all places...
I don't think I've ever heard of unflavored protein powder =/
Perhaps you can use either the vanilla or chocolate flavored kinds in baked goods though?
Not sure if you have them in Ca, but I've seen unflavored whey protein powder in the bulk section of H-E-B
Ok guys, thanks! There is a nutrition store right by my gym so maybe I'll stop in there today and see if they have anything.
I get mine from Amazon. It is unflavored whey soy protein powder made by NOW. Maybe that helps. Good luck!
... Soy protein powder? That's what I use.
I just found out about Nutiva's Organic Hemp Protein Powder. It doesn't have any flavors or sweeteners added to it.
Why don't you add more protein dense real foods to your diet like egg whites, chicken, tuna, red meat, turkey, etc?
I think your body will like it better - man wasn't meant to live on powder.
I don't use protein powder that much, but you can add textured vegetable protein (TVP) to your food. It kind of looks like dry chunks of breadcrumbs, and it soaks up liquid really easily. I add it to soups and pasta sauces and things like that. You can also use it as the "meat" in vegetarian sloppy joes.
i use protein powder from true protein
There you can mix your own protein powder
make sure you use coupon code SES941 when you order

That is just crazy talk. Protein from real food like what you listed, plus legumes, greek yogurt, salmon, eggs, totally unheard of. ![]()
