Unhappy with my body but always hungry?
I'm unhappy with my body but everyday I try to start a diet and am always pained by cravings and constant hunger. How can I overcome this annoying hunger and craving problem? Would dietary supplements help?
The key to successful losing is to think of it not as a "diet" but as a lifestyle change. Don't suddenly cut your diet in half- your metabolism has gotten used to processing that larger amount of food- of course you'll be starving if you suddenly take away what you usually require to feel full! I would suggest gradually cutting down on your calories- 100-200 less per day for a week, then drop another 100-200, until you get to that 500 calorie deficit from your RMR. In the meantime, try adding more exercise to increase your overall burn. I like to use exercise to create my deficit (I'm a big fan of eating, and definitely couldn't handle starving myself!). Good luck!
II wa the same - I had a huge appetite and thought I could never 'diet' as I would always be hungry. But since I've come on CC and read all the great info a nd posts from the helpful people, I actually have days where I havent met my calorie goal -to lose weight -and I am full! Eat more often, smaller meals, it will be hard at first because yes you will be hungry, but stick through it, it will get easier as your metabolism catches up.
make sure as well that you cut down on refined carbs, they play havoc with your blood sugar which makes you hungry again quickly. Stick to proteins and fibre for the bulk of your food.
I'd echo much of what's been said already about taking things more gently. Bear in mind that all you need to do to start losing weight is to reduce what you currently eat by 500 calories. I'd suggest, therefore, that you start by keeping a food log of what you actually eat. It'll help you see where the calories are coming from and if there are any 'bad habits'.
Then, to lose weight, simply swap bad habits for better ones, make different food choices and/or trim the portions until you've reduced your intake by 500 cals. For example... if you were to be in the habit of drinking a Starbucks grande latte (234 cals) with a blueberry muffin (380 cals) every day you could maybe decide to swap it for a tall latte (180cals) and a banana (100 cals) and save yourself 334 calories.
If you currently don't do any exercise something simple like a pedometer can help you get off the mark. Aim for 6000 steps initially, building to 10,000 steps a day and that is a good way to boost the metabolism.
Good luck
My doctor recommended something called salba (also known as chai seeds). It's just a grain seed (like wheat or something). You take about 1-3 teaspoons of it a day and just chew it and drink some water afterwords and it will take away your hunger or at least help it.
PLUS it is loaded with antioxidants, omegas and other great stuff.
I've noticed that when I start eating less/eating smaller portions I feel really hungry during the first couple of weeks. I think this is because I've gotten used to more food and heavier foods. I try to eat a lot more vegetables to counteract that. After a couple week of smaller portion sizes and less food (1300-1600 calories for me) I find that I feel fuller easier and longer because I've gotten used to that amount of food. Meals that were filling but finish-able I now can't finish. Give it some time.
Eat lots of vegetables! Fill up! I don't deprive myself of anything. I just eat smaller portions of the not so healthy stuff (or stuff that's healthy in moderation, like rice) and stuff myself with veggies. I also bring baby carrots out with me in case I get hungry. I end up snacking on them all day, so I don't ever have to get really hungry.
in my experience, i cut back on something i have been snacking on since those extra calories add up.. (for me it was apples and pretzels)... yes i was hungry for the first week but my body has now gotten used to it... i make sure to fill my plate with lots of vegetables and lettuce, also include grilled chicken or other protein in there. you can do it! good luck!
