Unhealthy binging Vs. Over indulgence

Quote  |  Reply

Where does the line go?

I had 4500 calories on wednesday, 2500 calories of pure junk. I did not stuff myself to the point of sickness, i just ate a bunch of junk food. I wasnt eating mindlessly, i was just grabbing everything i saw that looked good, and popped it in my mouth. Other times enoying my chocolate and cookies verrrry slowly. If it tasted good, and looked good, and i was craving it, i ate it.

Isnt a binge where you mindlessly shove everything you see in your face without thinking twice? Is it still classified as a binge?

I would agree that binging is eating until you are really sick. Overindulgence is equally unhealthy but it doesnt make you want to throw up.

I always thought the definition og a "binge" was when one ate more than 1000 calories in one sitting in a short amount of time....

I totally don't know for sure though, I think I heard it on TV once lol

I sometimes eat more than 1000 calories at a sitting if I eat desert immediately after supper.  I'm very active though and eat around 2400 calories a day.  I just like to eat supper as my big meal.  I don't think that's binging though because I need those calories just to maintain weight.  I think binging is more about the attitude toward food.  Still 4500 calories in a day is a lot!  I would try to find healthier foods that you enjoy.  You are less likely to over eat as much.

"That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet".... Shakespeare

If you eat too much you can call it indulgence, bingeing, gorgeing, gluttony, overeating... all kinds of things.   The state of mind is more important than the quantity or quality of food.  If the eating becomes out of control, mindless and leaves someone feeling sick, miserable and in physical discomfort then it's more of a problem than if - say - someone overdid it a bit at the Christmas table because the food was too good to resist.

Bingeing is over doing something be it food or alcohol, I think the line you are looking for relates to bulimia whereby bingeing and purging.

Just because you aren't being sick doesn't mean you haven't binged as you have eaten for the sake of it and been unable to stop.
