Is this an unhealthy habit?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys, whenever my mom is going to make something like pizza or spaghetti for dinner, I usually eat a very small lunch and have very few meals in between so that I can eat a lot for dinner and stay under my caloric limit. When my mom's makes something like that, I eat almost 1000 calories for dinner! Which means that I eat about 700-800 for breakfast + lunch and stuff before. Is it okay to do that or should all my meals be balanced? I really can't resist pizza so I eat less early on.

Thanks

I don't think so, I think it makes sense.

Do you have any other habits that you think might be concerning?

I don't think it would make sense for every day because usually people avoid eating too many calories later in the day.

But for the occasional day - I think it's great.  I do the same thing if I know my boyfriend and I are going out to eat or having something special for dinner.

When I know I'm going to have something special to eat, I will 'save' calories for the big meal.  I think it's fine, just not all the time.

I dunno if it's healthy on a regular basis (because you're substituting less-nutritious food for the nutritious food), but I do it all the time anyway, and it works like a charm for losing weight when you know you can't resist over-eating at a nice dinner.

If you're doing it a few times a month or less, you're totally fine I'm sure. I tend to eat out about once per week and I do the same thing you do.

Actually I think that is a great idea and good for you for having the discipline to control your eating so that you don't overeat later in the day.  Contrary to what you might hear, I don't think when you eat makes much difference at all.  Your body knows what to do with calories and doesn't magically turn stuff to fat just because you eat late at night...

Its not horrible, but like everyone has said you dont want to make that an everyday thing. I like to save up my calories when I know Im gonna have a special dinner or its a birthday or some kinda special occasion. So you are making a smart choice by limiting your intake during the day so you can enjoy your moms pizza. However, I will say that 1000 cals in one meal is still not a good idea, especially for dinner. It's later and your body is not going to be able to burn all of that off before you hit the hay.....you dont want the extra cals turning into extra fat. So bottom line, its awesome to splurge every once in a while, but be careful of how big that splurge is :)

Doing it on odd occasions (such as a special day or something ) won't hurt you as long as it isnt' a regular thing.

I wouldn't go too short during the day, but as long as you are sticking to healthy choices and still getting a healthy amount of activity you should be okay.

But on the other hand, instead of skimping all day and than going crazy why not eat normally, than eat a heathly portion and save some for the next day for lunch (if you are able ) or to have for dinner a second night.  Twice the enjoyment, with out the depravation/gorge.
