unhealthy habits you thought you'd never get rid of, but did..
i made a post last month asking "what are some unhealthy habits you'll never give up?" and listed mine. that post was closed due to posts against the calorie count rules, but; i have actually decided to give up half the things i mentioned.
what are some unhealthy habits you thought you'd never give up; but did?
after a long reflection of my life; i've decided to give up caffiene, smoking and diet soda, and i'm severely cutting down on the gum.
one of the mods sent me a message and said i could re-post the thread as long as i obeyed the calorie count rules, which i did.
and also, it's not even the same question as the old thread. before i asked "what are some unhealthy habits you'll never get rid of?" but now i'm asking "what are some unhealthy habits you THOUGHT you'd never get rid of, but did?"
see? there is a difference.
Chocolate milk for breakfast. Thought I'd be doing that the rest of my life. Gave it up nearly a year ago. (I sound like an addict...)
Drinking Pepsi. For years I failed at weight loss, but refused to give it up. I even tried to change to diet Pepsi, like my hubby, but couldn't stand it and stuck to my regular.
Then two years ago, I had two acute attacks of gout, and researching all that, I learned that I was not getting even close to enough water. The debilitating, excruciating pain of gout was WAY more than enough motivation to drop Pepsi and go to 95% water.
Alcohol. If I ever drink again, which I am sure I will, it will certainly not be 10 paralysers made with cream and real pop in one night. I refuse to ever drink so many calories again.
Cigarettes. Had to give them up, even though I was stubbornly holding on (I mean c'mon I can only do so much, losing weight AND giving up smoking seemed a little unreasonable). But ultimately it was too hard to exercise while wheezing and gasping for air, my poor lungs need all the help I can get!
Fried foods. Like an addict, I have had to go cold-turkey on those. Eventually I hope to be able to eat a few french fries and stop there. But for now, it's total abstinence, despite having a serious love for fried cheese sticks, donuts, well anything fried really. I NEVER would have thought I could give those up...its been nearly 4 months now.
Secret eating. I thought I was doomed to do that forever....not so much a refusal to give it up as a hopelessness....but I have made a commitment to myself to not do that anymore. If i eat something I should not, if I binge, if I make some really bad food choices, I will tell somebody...secrecy leads to shame and self-hatred. I give it up, and I am free.
unhealthy habits...........em picking at food instead of eating it. it plays HAVOC with my psychology!
doing ricky stuff.....going down hills on things with unsteady wheels really fast, kayaking whitewater rivers, accepting sweets from strangers!!
Eating junk food consistently. I'm at a point now where the very idea of eating at a fast food joint makes my stomach clench.
alcohol. i'm going to stay sober til i'm legal.
1) Diet soda. Regular soda was easy enough to give up, but I still had to have my diet soda often as a replacement. However, now I drink diet soda about once a week... and I could take it or leave it each time. I still enjoy it when I have it, but I don't "crave" soda of any sort anymore. It's taken about 6 months to realize that?
2) Eating while standing up. I always used to be munching...starting my dinner before getting to the table...have entire meals standing at the counter. But now I am forced to make every calorie count, so I really just don't even try to do that anymore... I always make sure I find a place to sit and enjoy my food, unless I'm TRULY on the run.
I never thought I would be able to walk past a fast food place and not give it a moment's thought. Now I am not saying I don't still crave those McD's fries on occasion but it's definitely no longer an option without major guilt.
I have been able to give up pop (I am from Ohio we say 'pop' not soda..lol)
I don't drink diet, or regular. Give me a bottle of water or flavored water and that will do me just fine. :)
I never thought I would be able to give up soda (in particular root beer and coke), but I did. Granted, it was for a medical condition instead of weight loss, but the benefit of weight loss sure made it easier.
I gave up cinnamon bears
. I never, ever thought I'd give up cinnamon bears. But I've replaced them with sugar snap peas...my new favorite munchy attack food .
I never really thought I'd give up sodas...I guess I haven't completely, but I'm down from a couple in a week to one every few weeks and usually not even then.
Chips are also something that I never thought I'd give up, but the calories just aren't worth the expenditure to me most of the time.
I guess I've found that I do things at different times in my life for a variety of reasons and I like the flexibility to adapt my habits.
I never though I'd give up the deaily coffee shop latte habit, mostly because it is a chance to chat with friends and take a break from work. But then I started asking the work friends if they wanted to do a walking loop (to have a breaK) and then get free hot water for tea downstairs. We now just go to the coffee shop for a Latte on Fridays as a special treat and don't even miss the daily habit! I thought it would be so hard to break but it really was quite easy!
oh yeah, i also gave up drinking 10+ cups of coffee a day. i'm down to 2-3 every morning.
Meat at every meal (your basic B-L-D). I used to be programmed to think that if there wasn't meat involved, it wasn't a meal and wasn't filling. I'm still very much an omnivore, but there's no longer that insane craving at every major meal.
I gave up Diet Coke (like 7 or 8 a day) and most fast food. I feel so much better!!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
