Hey there everyone!
I'm new to the site and I am a chololate lover! I was just wondering if anyone out there has any unique healthy snack ideas (not necessarily just sweet ones)? I'm getting pretty tired of eating the same'ol same'ols if you know what I mean, lol. Fruits, veggies and 100 cal thingamajigs are all good but boring to say the least. I am terrified of the defeat of temptation! Please Help :(
Thanx a Bunch
Natures' Own Lite Wheat bread, lightly toasted 40 cal 2.5g fiber .5 g fat. Top with 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 95 cal, 1g fiber 8g fat. Then drizzle with 1 tsp of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup - only about 17 cals, 0 fat
That's my Reese's peanut butter cup substitute!
I pretty much snack all day. I don't know if any of what I have is unique but I will list them anyway... :)
My daily/weekly staples include:
Apples
Bananas
Plums
White Cheddar Rice Cakes (especially good with salsa)
Yogurt (especially good with graham crackers)
Popcorn (love the kettle corn!)
Dried cranberries
Trailmix (cautious - way easy to go over here!)
Ice cream bars (every night I have an ice cream bar ranging from 45 to 300 calories)
Frozen fruit warmed up on a graham cracker
Cheese & crackers (the Laughing Cow wedges with reduced fat Townhouse crackers)
Chocolate syrup and sliced strawberries (or sliced strawberries with splenda sprinkled on it and sometimes whip cream!)
I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of that the moment...
Apple with peanut butter dip (natural PB whipped with light tofu)
Piece of toast with cottage cheese on top
Bowl of dry cereal -- I like to mix Kashi GoLean, Smart Bran, and Puffed Wheat, and then pick through the bowl and eat only one kind of piece at a time (first it's the puffs, then the fiber pieces from the Kashi, then the soy squares in the Kashi, then the Smart Bran). That snack lasts me FOREVER! haha
Plain popcorn
Oatmeal with PB, Banana, and ground flaxseed (new favorite!)
PB stirred in cottage cheese/yogurt
Hardboiled egg and a pear or apple
Piece of toast with pumpkin on top, sprinkled with cinnamon
A cup of milk (I like it warmed up..warm stuff is more satisfying to me!)
Then cucumbers are always a snack. Don't know if any are unique but I hope I helped a bit =)
I am also a chocolate lover...and donuts, cookies, ice cream...You get the point. I've recently discovered Light Lattes at Dunkin Donuts. My husband and kids get the donuts and I get a Latte made with Splenda and skim milk. Has a slight coffee/chocolate flavor without all the calories. I also make a version at home using a Keurig coffee machine. I use coffee beans (instead of espresso beans) and make the smallest cup which makes strong coffee. I then add 3/4 cup warm skim milk, 1/2 tablespoon splenda and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Yuu-hummmm! You could also put peppermint flavor in instead of the vanilla. I drink them hot and on ice. You can also make homemade hot chocolate using powdered cocoa and skim milk with splenda. The exact recipe is on the Hershey's container. As far as solid food for snacks, I like making smoothies. Plain non-fat yogurt, splenda (or stevia), some fruit (frozen berries work great) and vanilla extract. Pretty filling with not too many calories. Laughing cow cheese on Triskett crackers hits the spot. Laughing cow cheese is also good on celery or apples. Guess I like to snack!
My favorite snack is a latte (I make it at home...the only cofee I'll drink XD) and a piece of fruit. Right this second I'm drinking a fresh latte and a half of a kiwi lol.
Hey!
I snack heaps during the day as I have no real lunch, but divide it into small snacks during morning and afternoon instead. You might say my snacks are boring, I think so too, but they are tasty, filling and satisfying.
I eat many many carrots, as they are very filling compared to their very low amount of calories.
Small cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and snack sized capsicum.
Raisins help the sweet tooth, and when I just feel like chewing something (You probably know the feeling), I eat a handful of almonds, and if the craving continues, I always have sugarfree gum in my purse.
I agree with deflepfan16, warm things are very satisfying, therefore I enjoy Oolong tea (supposed to be slimming) or coffee instead of some high calorie cracker.
If I'm really hungry and feel I need energy, I toast a slice of rye bread, really tasty!!
I also absolutely LOVE greek yoghurt 10% with oatmeal and apricot mixed in.
Popsicle brand fudge pops and chocolate teddy grahams are the only way I can cope with dieting!
I also enjoy many of the other snacks mentioned here but those are the 2 that get me over that chocolate hump without going crazy on calories.
there are tons of snack options out there! a few that i love are
graham crackers with pb or nutella
cottage cheese with jam mixed in (or yogurt if you prefer it)
luna bars (they have tons of flavors with chocolate)
a ziploc bag filled with your favorite cereal (cheerios, kashi, kix, etc.)
pretzel sticks dipped in hummus or pb
a handful of nuts like cashews, almonds, pistachios, etc. (there are cans at the supermarket of chocolate covered nuts)
weight watchers has great icecream sandwiches/popsicles for like 100-150ish cals.
soo many options just have fun with it! :)
Not really unique or anything, but what I love to eat for snacks:
- Danone Activia Vanilla Yogurt - I eat this stuff daily (sometimes more than one since it is really good); I sometimes add in other flavours, such as honey and oats (even works as a face mask)
- Cottage Cheese - very simple and you can easily add fruit to it for a much better taste
- Applesauce - homemade applesauce is super easy to make and cost effective, plus, you can add in whatever you choose
- Pretzels or light popcorn
- Apples - an obvious choice (I sometimes will add a drizzle of honey to add sweetness, as well as help them from browning)
I am sure I have more, but those are some main ones.
I buy mini chocs to limit the portion size. fun size bars or mini Lindt chocolate balls. That way you don't eat the whole thing.
try to limit this to twice a week but don't deny yourself.
I also like cutting apples into pieces so it takes longer to eat.
I love vanilla fat free yogurt with fiber one and either canned pumpkin and cinnamon(which is very low cal) or you can take an indvidual dark chocolate square and microwave with the yogurt and fiber one. Its a very healthy chocolate/chewy pudding! mmm..
Im not a chocolate fan, but diabetic chocolate pudding is very good! We make it at work for the seniors with diabetis and I like it a lot. Its low on sugar so it should be a good light snack?
CocoaVia - Its yummie healthy chocolate, but there exspensive, 5.00 dollars for one box! :P

And alooot moreee~ '':]
Kind of a fun snack is a box of Cracker Jacks. 120 cal.
i try to always carry a piece of fruit with me and often some kind of granola bar. i actually really like the fiber one bars.. a little higher in calories than some, but they have tons of fiber and some great flavors (particularly the oats and chocolate and apple crisp kinds)!
I LOVE skinny cow ice cream. There are a bunch of varieties and different sizes, some with under 100 calories and all with a lot less fat than regular ice cream, and they taste just the same.
I also try to eat yogurt every day, because I don't tend to get enough calcium, and dannon light n' fit (in the individual containers, not the smaller 4-packs) are my favorite. I have issues with texture and this is creamy and has lots of flavors. If i'm really hungry, i put some kashi cereal (or, the crumbs from the bottom of a shredded-wheat type cereal) into it to make it more filling.
If you're a pb lover, try the kind called better 'n butter! i also make my own hummus (SO easy and then it's better for you) and use it with veggies or make sandwiches with it for lunch (spinach, tomato, and hummus makes a great sandwich)!
A bowl of low-fat plain natural yoghurt with a banana chopped in and a small drizzle of honey. Beauty!
Try Fage greek 0% yogurt with splenda. Its really good, and so good for you. Only about 120 cals and 20gs of protein a serving!
Also, I love plain oatmeal with bananas!
If you like chocolate, you might like this. Take a carton of light firm tofu and blend it in a food processor with cocoa powder, honey and vanilla. I usually just add the ingredients and taste and put more in when it is sweet and chocolately enough. It is like pudding and is very low in calories. Also good but sounds kind of strange is 1/2 cup canned pumpkin, tablespoon of natural peanut butter (make sure it is the natural and not the kind with trans fat), 1 teaspoon or more of honey and some cinnamon and mix together. If you like pumpkin stuff, it is really good even though it sounds strange. Also good is to microwave 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries until they are thawed and mix in 1/2 cup greek yogurt and 1 wheetabix cereal square, and let sit for about 5 minutes until the cereal is a little mushy.
I try not to snack too much, but I like:
apple with peanut butter
laughing cow spread on saltine crackers
hummus and crackers
Toasted Kangaroo pocket cut in half with laughing cow and hummus
nuts
nature valley sweet and salty nut bars, and nature valley roasted nut bars
small yoghurt with 1/4 cup fiber one mixed in.
fruited cottage cheese with fiber one.
hershey's kisses (3 at a time) One hershey's kiss and a couple of peanuts or an almond tastes like a candy bar!
100 calorie icecream bars
kozy shack pudding cups (especially the chocolate one)
Apple Crisp without the guilt: Peel and slice an apple, spinkle cinnamon and cook in the microwave until soft. Dallop some vanillia yogurt on the top and sprinkle with All-Bran. My six-year old daughter loves this.
I would also encourage you to check out Stevia www.stevia.net This is a herbal sweetener that is calorie free but no nasty chemicals. The only thing, is that you have to make sure you don't use too much, otherwise your food will taste bitter. I buy the box with individual packages so that I don't have to measure. 1/8 tsp of Stevia is about a tsp of sugar. In Canada, you can buy at any health food store and now the Superstore also sells (in the health food aisle). Not sure about in the US.
I also buy the Hershy chocolate in pre-wrapped packages of about 40 calories each. Especially during that time of the month when chocolate becomes medicinal.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
