Unquenchable Thirst? [Resolved; thanks!]

Quote  |  Reply
For some reason, I've been exceptionally thirsty today. Not in the sense that I'm drinking an extra glass of water or two, but in that I've already drank over 3 liters of fluid today- varying degrees of water and tea. I had my usual cereal and milk for breakfast (neither of which has much sodium at all,) and I haven't had lunch yet. Then why on earth am I so uncommonly thirsty? Any advice or idea would be greatly appreciated- I'm starting to feel bloated from drinking so much.

The caffeine in tea is a diuretic, so that could be a reason

Have you exercised today?

I usually drink 6-7L of fluid a day, because exercise makes me sweat a lot.

If you truly feel thirsty all the time for more than a few days in a row, you should consider going to the doctor, as this is one of the symptoms of diabetes.

It's happened to me before, and in two days my throat was aching a lot. Perhaps you're gonna be sick or something? I can't think of anything else!

yeah, tea might not be the best choice

try coconut water :) its amazing stuff

I always have some after i work out/run, and it always does the job

Sometimes, your body just wants liquid. Since your bloated, that seems to suggest you aren't going to the bathroom much, which means your body is holding onto the water.

However, if this lasts more than a few days, particularly if you also start peeing a lot, go to the doctor. Excessive thirst and urination is a sign of diabetes. But one day? Just chalk it up to the bodily weirdness.

Water is a diuretic too if you drink a lot. Have something with electrolytes in it. It will really crush that thirst.
i have an unsatiable thirst as well, it sucks. try cutting down on the tea a bit.

I have it almost permanently. It kinda came on sudden. It's fine. Despite how much my husband complains and is shocked how often he has to get a replacement 5 gallon jug of water, I have had no physical problems with it.

Do get checked for diabetes though. I did, several times.

Limit caffiene.

Adding some lemon to the water helps keep me from feeling really bloated with water.

Also, limit salt.

Slip the water slowly. If I chug or drink quickly the water, I could (and have) drank gallons of water.

You may be coming down with something, so I would take some vit C, cut out all processed foods, artificial anything, and limit sugar for the next few days. That usually helps me get from getting sick.

"this is one of the symptoms of diabetes."
That's what first came to mind with me. My dad was recently diagnosed, kind of out of the blue. Make sure to keep an eye on that. If it continues go to a doctor and get it checked out just to make sure it isn't diabetes or some other disease.
Of course, it could just be one of those days where your body is still dehydrated and is craving water.
Just keep an eye on sodium, caffine, and sugar levels :]

Sometimes I get really thirsty and water doesn't help, then I try diet lemonade or coke, especially if my throat is dry, all I can suggest is just to keep drinking, or maybe try having lunch early? Don't worry too much, its probably just weirdness, but if it carries on, take a trip to the drs?

xxxx

ps. what did you have for tea last night? sometimes if you have really salty food in the evening it doesn't hit you until the next day!

did you exercise a lot the day before?
do you happen to drink crystal light or anything with artificial sweeteners??

this exact same thing happened to me this summer and i even went to get tested for diabetes (was negative) before realizing it was caused by the 1-2 packets of "crystal light on the go" i drank everyday
