Unreal
WHATEVER.
It's been nice hanging out here and chatting with everyone, but when things like this are done like this, it's time to leave.
GoodBye Calorie Count.
I'm sure this post will be removed too, but maybe someone will see it before that.
Sorry you feel you have to leave
Just want to thank you again for a great spreadsheet.
I'm sorry you feel offended by calorie-count, i think they really need a graph like that. I know they're offering one for PAID members, but us non-paid users need a chart too and I really like yours.
Stay strong!
The moderators had to make a decision about whether to leave your post up or not given that, instead of linking to your spreadsheet in your profile, you just changed the www to xxx and left the rest of the url up there.
I can understand why you might be confused about what is allowed and what isn't, but here are a couple of considerations that came into our decision.
1. The link was to an excel spreadsheet - not to a fully operational web interface (like a BMI calculator).
2. People had to trust the content was safe, sight unseen, and download the sheet in order to look at it.
3. It is possible to write very destructive viruses and worms into the macros of spreadsheets (even though to our knowledge your sheet was not corrupted in this way).
4. If we left your spreadsheet up in the forums, we'd have to leave every such sheet, and take the risk that someone could create a destructive tool with which to cause harm and disruption to the computing ability of members of this site.
5. Spam is not permitted, but we did not regard your link as spam.
6. Commercial or promotional links are not permitted, but we did not regard your link as commercial or promotional.
7. Links that direct members away from this site for the same purposes that this site fulfills are not permitted - unless their intent is to review all available similar resources, and we considered that your spreadsheet provides a similar service to the free web tools provided here, but did not consider it a "competitor" and so this was not a factor in asking you to place your link in your profile.
I hope what I have explained is understandable to you.
The above is described briefly in the posting guidelines that appear below the text box when you post, as well as explained fully in the user agreement that you agreed to when you joined.
If you would like more clarification, please get in touch with the admin team at support@calorie-count.com
:)
Edited to add - calorie-count does not have any paid members - all of the content on this site and all of the tools are provided completely and 100% FREE to users.
What, exactly, is this sites definition of "LINK"?
Guys, as for the spreadsheet which I know everyone is finding helpfull but is being supressed for reasons they posted above, you can find the actual "LINK" on my profile page. For whatever reason it's ok that I redirect you to the spreadsheet there but not here - Go figure :S I'm just trying to help people, which is what I believed CC's goal was until this happened.
Editted: I wanted to also add, based on the rules above, I was in error when I posted the original topic because at that time it did have a link in it. I apologize for this, I signed up along while back and haven't ever had a need or desire to post a link to anything until this spreadsheet. CC had every right to ask me to edit/remove the link from the original post AND I did comply with the request. Maybe CC could just add the spreadsheets functionality to the weight tracker screen here on the site? Since I've never posted anything like this before, I would look to CC's expertise to find a way of shareing this with it's members in a way as not to violate any policies.
I get that.
What's the big deal about putting the link in your profile?
howareyou.com
Is "howareyou.com" a link? if so, what does it link too? This is really the issue, is text considered a link? If it is, then I was completely wrong.
From working in the computer world, however, most definition of link would be a hyperlink that would look like this www.gohereorthereoranywhere.com that takes you to a website.
At any rate, I was just trying to give people a nice tool to track their progress, if I had known all this was going to come from it I would have just kept it to myself, friends locally, and family - all of which love it.
On a side note, you would have to be a complete moron to post a malicous link using your established CC id... But anyway.
I think you're taking this extremely personally and that was never our intention. We appreciate the time and effort you put into your spreadsheet and are glad that you came up with it.
We were not, in any way, saying that your spreadsheet was no good, that it wasn't a helpful tool, etc.
Getting people used to downloading things is risky. You have the best of intentions and created something that is actually good, but someone in the future might not be that way. I personally never ever download anything on the word of a stranger (be it via email or on forums) but not everyone is so cautious. Heck, I don't even download unrequested files sent to me by loved ones.
All is well.
P.S. Wonder how many calories I burned typing all of these messages *grin*
hey vaguy! I'm glad so many members found your chart informative. And I'm glad that you have a clear understanding that removing the post was not a personal attack by any means. Downloading content from a website owned by a large coorporiation allows users to almost automatically trust that it is safe, and it could be dangerous. Us mods are just looking out for the community members. Even though the community can judge whether a file is safe or not, they really have no way of knowing unless they have the software in their system to determine so. For all we know, there could be some spammer sending links to virus filled excel sheets.
If you have a minute, will you PM me the link so I can benefit from it's use? It seems handy. :)
Dear vaguy
thanks very very much for posting the spreadsheet. It is very handy
my best
