unwanted weight loss- question?

Quote  |  Reply

okay well i recovered from an eating disorder and have been a healthy weight for almost a year.

a couple weeks ago i started to feel like i was over eating so i started to count calories. i had been eating 1400-1700 calories a day, but on this website it said tht i should be eating 1900. when i started i was 100 pounds. i want to be healthy so i started eating more like 1700-1900 calories a day.

but i have lost 2-3 pounds with eating more, which is not what i was expecting

i don't want to keep losing weight because i don't want to be too skinny and also i think if i keep losing i will go back to my eating disorder. so should i go back to eating 1400-1700? or keep eating 1900 calories a day because that's what i "should" be eating?

Thermodynamics dictates that the only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you need.   By undereating on 1400-1700 a day you had slowed your metabolism back down so your body had got used to managing on much less than it should.  Upping to 1900 meant that your metabolism geared itself back up to a more normal speed.   But if your actual daily needs are 2100, 2300 + then 1900 means you're losing weight.   The CC tools are only ever a best guess.

To gain weight again, you'll simply need to increase your intake.  Try adding an extra 500 a day for a few weeks and see how that goes.  To maintain the higher weight afterwards, trim it back 100 cals at a time until things stabilise.   It's more of an art than a science.

You should level back down. No worries. Your metabolism just got a kick in the butt. When I first started maintaining, I was eating more (a ton more) and kept losing. If you're concerend with your loss, definately talk to your doctor about it. But in a few weeks your body should figure it out and you'll be able to gain back the extras lost. It's just confused right now :) Adding in additional calories is the best option until the leveling occurs.
