Up to 20 Pounds for August and September GO!TEAM!GO!:)
Hi my name is Jodi and some of you might know me from the June and July 10 pound weight loss challenges. Overall June and July were a great sucess and I have decided to start a new challenge for August and September with a goal of 20 pound weight loss.
For those of you who do not know me. I am a stay at home mom of three great kids. I started my weight loss journey in May of 2009 at a weight of 264 lbs. As of August 1st my weight is 218 lbs, = total loss of 46 pounds. If you would like to know how I did it please read my last blog in June 10 pound Weight Loss Challenge Continued...Lets try for another 10 in July:).
A lot of my success comes from the motivation I have received here at CC. I.. of all people understand how hard it is to be over weight..with a 10 year plus record of obesity. For health reasons I am on a mission to gain a healthier lifestyle because the I(me) has become a we(my kids) and I need team mates to help me complete that mission:)
The rules are simple come by... weigh in once a week and maybe even give a little weight loss or motivational advice. The more the merrier so please lets make this a team effort.
Up to 20 pounds for August and September.....
GO!TEAM!GO!![]()
I joined the June challenge... and didn't do anything. I'm joining now, I've already lost 1 lb since August 1.
My weight on August 1: 164.5.
Started off 225 on August 1 . . . still trying to find the trick to really shedding the pounds.
I have been maintaining between a 700 and 1000 calorie deficit for the last 2 weeks. I am training to walk a marathon, so I walk 3 days during the week and then 1 long walk on Saturday (9 miles this Saturday!). I try to work out in the yard as much as possible and be active.
I'm wondering why I am not shedding more weight? I seem to be stuck at 225. I started at 256 and have a lot more weight to lose, so I am wondering if this is a plateau? I thought it would be too soon for one?
Any ideas :)
Are we still weighing in on Mondays?

I didn't do so good in July but I'm already doing a lot better in August. I've changed up my routine and finally broken off my plateau. I've been doing pilates and spinning at the gym and they've been kicking my butt. I've also started doing some HIIT on my exercise bike at home.
I'm finally happy with my weight, but I want to lose some more in order to just overall be healthier. My BMI is currently around 24, and I'd like to get it down to 22-23.
I only went to August since I'm getting married in Sept. It is my main motivation for losing this weight that I have needed to lose for about a year now. I will probably take a couple weeks off and then come back end of Sept/early Oct so I can lose the rest before the end of the year.
I'm going to start with my end weight from Aug 3. That was 142. Once you get down closer to your goal it sure does seem harder to lose. I need you all to keep me motivated, and I will do the same for you. ![]()

I have not lost any since Saturday. I think i hit a plateau but I am not sure yet. It is not very motivating but I believe in myself. I will get it over. :)
Thanks Jodi!
Saw - what is your goal? I'm at 142 as well and it seems to be going soooo slowly! I'm happy if I lose 1 lb. per week. They do say that you don't want to lose more than 1% of your body weight per week, so for us that is only 1.42 lbs.
afined - you've lost 20 lbs. since June? That's awesome!! To lose 20 lbs. is my goal and I've been working at it since Feb. This is the first month that I'm really really motivated though since I'm down to the wire as far as my wedding goes.

You are running your calories to low I think for your weight..there are plenty of sites online that can help you calculate your ideal caloric intake for your weight and lifestyle. I like this site it is very specific http://www.cookingnook.com/calorie-calculator .html
Good Luck:)
amymarieky, yeah i lost approx. 21.2 lbs since June 1st. I did it counting my calories. But in the middle of July it slowed down and then stopped last week. But I am trying to zigzag my calorie intake so i hope it will work.
Hope you will reach your goal pretty soon. No matter what, don't give up! :)

I think zigzagging calories makes a really difference because there are days when I know I have had too much like my cheat days..yet I lose weight. We fool our bodies from storing fat with less calories to boosting metabolism with more:)
Hmmm - I had never heard of zigzagging calories before. So if my goal is to eat 1600 a day, how often would I zigzag? Every other day? Like 1400, 1800, 1400, 1800? Or switch it every two to three days?
I do usually eat 1600-1800 on days that I work out, and 1400-1600 on days that I don't.
I decided to eat maintenance the last couple of days. I've still been working out, but I just wanted to give my body a little break. I've been REALLY tired lately and so I am also starting to take a multi-vitamin again. I should be doing that anyway, I just forget. When I started this whole weight-loss program I had a number in mind (125lb) but I have decided now that I'm going to be happy with whatever number I end up with as long as 2 things happen. (1) I get rid of this tummy I just can't seem to lose. (2) I get rid of the fat on my hips and thighs. I've started a weight-lifting program and my arms are ROCKIN, but my bottom area has yet to catch up. I have muscle definition it's just hidden under the extra layer.
So, once I get rid of the tummy and the thighs I'll be a happy camper. Thank goodness I have boobs or I would be a serious pear. I'm an american size 10 pant with a 27.5" waist and 34DD bra size. I definitely like my curves, I just wish they looked firmer in a swimsuit. I do feel like I'm getting close though. ![]()
amy - I've noticed that for weeks in which I had cheat days ( maybe ate 1800-2000 calories) and I ate 1200-1400 the other days of the week that I had big losses on the scale. That's one of the reasons that I decided to give myself a few days of maintenance calories. I'm going to hit it hard with workouts and watch my cals this weekend though. We'll see how I do on Monday. Maybe I need to adjust my exercise and calories to lose 1 pound a week for now.

*I still can't lose weight. I added weight lifting in my exercise. Hope it will help. I ate over my daily calorie intake at the weekend. Hope it will help my metabolism to work properly again. Ah well... *rolls eyes* Hope everyone else is doing great!

Awww thanks Gajani..I feel so honored and you are doing great keep up the good work:)
I had a very bad weekend...I went to an Italian wedding and ate pasta and desert which I haven't done in 3 months..I managed to skip the bread though. Then on Sunday we had Arby's chicken burger and fries..ouch. But I didn't gain any weight believe it or not. I made my boyfriend work out with me Sunday night and he wasn't a happy camper but I was proud of him..he did it:) Most of the wedding I spent in the washroom..I am guessing because I was eating rich food and my stomach was saying..hey what is this. I guess I can honestly say I flushed all my calories..lol.
Have a good week guys

Just wanted to let you know that I am 1lb down today! :D How I missed losing weight! LOL

YEA!! Congrats.
Jodi - I also went overboard this weekend with pasta, but I couldn't resist the bread and went for that as well. Surprisingly I didn't cap the whole meal off with a huge piece of cheesecake. I was at The Cheesecake Factory. My stomach was upset the rest of the day. I guess it was all that rich sauce on the pasta.
On a positive note during my walk/jog (jog as far as I can, walk to catch a breath, jog as far as I can again) last night I managed to finish up by jogging for 7 minutes. Normally I have to start walking again after about 5. I think if I really pushed it, I could jog for a mile. Maybe that will be my new goal, to be able to jog a mile in 10 minutes.

A partner in crime I do have..lol. Way to go in not having any cheesecake. I have never been there, but I have heard lots about it. And there is absolutely no way I could have had that much willpower...you go girl. :)
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
