Sorry for the rant. I know this is a good place for people who actually want to lose weight in a healthy way.
I just don't get it.
It is very frustrating. It reminds me of the movie Mean Girls with the character that keeps say, "I really want to lose three pounds." It almost hurts to read these postings.
I feel your pain.
I think some people have a difficult time with self-confidence, self-esteem, and feelings of self-worth, and can have a hard time being satisfied with who they are and what they have accomplished. They are always chasing the elusive prize of being "thin enough" or "pretty enough" or "popular enough." Keep in mind that some of our members can be pretty young, and do (naturally) crave a certain amount of attention from time to time.
Still, others may just be over-achievers and perfectionists who are striving for their absolute BEST and aren't satisfied with being 98% of the way there.
But, the nice thing about a community as diverse as this one, is that there will always be peers, buddies and friends for each of us ... people who are where we are in our healthy eating lifestyles, people who can share our struggles, and people who can help us and keep us motivated ... we just have to find them and stick like glue!
=^..^= MOLLY
BUT at the same time, I have lost 55+ lbs on this site and am now one of the 'healthy' people looking to lose the last 15 lbs. So there you go. Although I don't post about it. But I just did.

You'd think a person would be skinny at 5'9 and 130 lbs or under but weight is meaningless, that person could still have a high percentage of body fat..
That might be the case, but they shouldn't be complaining about their weight. They should be asking around on the fitness forums instead to get better advice on how to exchange fat for muscle. I think the OP was just tired of seeing anorexics in denial.
Why should wanting to be more attractive and the best we can be, be considered vain? Surely everyone has the right to be happy with how they look, im sure the people in the media make an effort. Yes health is a priority, but im already healthy, i go to the gym daily and eat well, but for me 15lbs drop is about becoming physically the most attractive i can. Im glad dieting makes you healthier and more active but thats your priority, dont tell others what their priorites need to be.
The forums can be really hard to read, and unfortunately, instead of making people realize that others have UNREALISTIC goals and expectations, repeatedly reading about these kinds of goals can reinforce the idea that everyone should have them.
What makes me so mad is what someone said above about how as a teen they might want to emulate the 'scrawny' look. ARGH. That's a great reason to destroy bone and muscle tissue! Teens are STILL GROWING, and trust me, even though it's hard to imagine, when you are my age (37), it's nice to have every bit of health left for the next 50+ years of life.
The scale is a tool, not the basis for a goal. Or it should be IMNSHO.
Plus, life is too damn short to be worried about three lbs.
EDIT: plus, I wanted to say that I'm healthy now, I'm just fat. At 5' 8', if I got down to 130, I'd be incredibly unhealthy. There's no way on this green earth that I could be that weight and not be diminished and living a poor quality of life. So for me it's difficult to understand how anyone (my height or taller) could be happy and healthy at that weight. But everyone is built different and I fully realize that there are a few people who can rock that weight even when they are taller than me. It's just that "healthy" is too often equated with being thin, when the two aren't always the same. A lot of people on this site could testify to that fact.
