Update on Weight Gain

Quote  |  Reply

I have shared on these forums that in January of 2008 I weighed 288 lbs

I decided to make a life chnge and I went into heavy duty exercise and I dramatically changed my diet.  Never starved myself just hard core exercise and clean eating.

I became an exercise Bulemic!  My lowest weight was in the Spring when I was down to 136 lbs!  Very weak and from body fat of 54% at my heavies to 7.2%.

I am slowly gaining back but my wife and I can't notice the weight gain?  How does it come back first muscle?

I have gained back about 10 lbs and I am trying for another 20lbs

Hi. I am glad you are taking your life back. Sometimes when a body has been depleted and got so sick that it takes time to see a difference. EVen if one is better then before they still look sick so the focus tends to be on that. When you gain weight it is fat and muscle you need both to live. What is your daily intake and how is your activity level? I am not sure how long you have been gaining but if you have 20 more to go you may need to increase food and lower activity. I am not sure if your wife is supporting and helping you through this or if there are issues around it but regardless I encourage you to tell her what you need and how she can help or how it is not.

I am going to guess you are a fairly tall male? If so, it might take 20+ lbs for others to notice. I am a female(5'9") and my lowest weight was below 100. It took 10 lbs for my boyfriend to really notice anything different, and 15-20 before others did! I guess a lot of the first few lbs go to your internal organs/brain/muscle tissue. Also, if you were dehydrated when you were exercising a lot, a lot of it could have gone to replenish water in your system? Plus, the taller you are, the less noticable it is. (Which kind of sucks because up until just a month or so ago everyone was still making comments about me being "scary skinny" and I'm like "BUT I'VE GAINED 20 LBS!!" :p)

My wife is totally supportive.  I am 5'10.  I know I need to cut my activity still a bit addicted to fitness I eat a ton daily and I love to eat so I justify all my eating with the exercise......what a fun process!

I am on the right road as I let the weight come on slowly but I need to speed it up or I will freeze to death this winter!  :):)

I am glad your wife is supporting you. I was not sure by your post. Can you ask her for more support in eating and activity. You can not use activity to eat. Fitness is about being healthy and not about burning off the food you eat. I used to use exercise back in the day to do the same and also it calmed the anxiety but in the long run created more. Can you find other things to enjoy and calm yourself? Remember your goal is to gain so that is how you justify to eat a lot. Good luck and I hope you make the changes you need
