Upping the calories for anorexia recovery...

Quote  |  Reply

I'm just recovering from anorexia and I'm starting to up my calories. Typically I eat around 1000-1200 each day, and my goal is to be up to 1500 by Saturday (June 20). Does anyone have any ideas on how to distribute my calories throughout the day? ie how many for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks, etc? Thanks :) Anything and any advice is welcome!

First of all, it doesn't matter from your body's perspective. Do whatever is easiest for you.

If you are used to eating small meals and not feeling full, it might be easiest to distribute it evenly throughout the day - like:

breakfast 350

snack 150

lunch 350

snack 150

dinner 350

snack 150

you can do it!

I definitely second the comment above.  You can adjust those anyway you want.

Also, if you find that is still hard on your stomach, try taking in some calories throught 100 % fruit juice or milk.

I am glad you are beginning recovery. However, it is likely that you will still be losing weight or at the most maintaining on 1500 calories. Weight gainers should aim for 2500+ calories a day, under a doctor's supervision if at all possible.

It's actually very easy to get this number of calories without feeling too full - you just have to overcome the mental barriers and incorporate high-calorie foods into your meals (nuts, seeds, avocado, nut butters, whole milk/cream etc). There's a list of high calorie foods for weight gainers on the weight gain board.
