upping cals to maintain, but losing faster now?

Quote  |  Reply

So after reaching my goal weight of 145 I've been upping my cals for the last few weeks to maintenance levels (around 1700 cals, 2100 on workout days). Love that I get to eat more now, that rules! But to my surprise this last week the scale has been steadily dropping...this AM I weighed in at 141! Not that I'm complaining but it just seems a little weird, and I don't really want to lose much more or what's left of my boobs will just completely disappear. Embarassed Anyway just thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced this.

First of all, congrats on reaching your goal - your weight graph is amazing!

It's possible that you were eating* on the low side, and your weight loss slowed some because of that, and now that you are eating more, you started losing again. Almost like you broke a plateau, you just didn't mean to!

I'd say start eating a little more over the next few weeks (just a hundred extra) and see if it levels off.

*adding words so that I make sense. It's been a long day....

Your maths is a little off, that's all.   A 145lb woman can maintain on 2000 cals a day average even when she's not particularly active.  So if you're working out you probably need 2300 on those days and 2000 the rest of the time.... could even be higher.

Thanks! That makes sense. well I will definitely start eating more, I have absolutely no problem with that! I think I might look into getting some kind of monitor to get an accurate measurement of how much I burn, know of any good ones?

The same thing happened to me when I reached my initial goal weight.  I increased calories to what I thought was going to be maintenance for me, but keep losing.  You may need to keep tweaking it to find the best level especially if you're putting in some hefty workouts.

(I've been too cheap to buy an HRM.)

Wow pdxkittn!  You look great...congratulations on your weight loss.

i agree, why do so many people on here think they can gain weight on less than 2500 calories a day? most people at 145 lb can maintain on 2500. end of story.

but y not if everyone has a diff maintenance level, how is gaining on less than 2500/day not possible?
