Is this normal?

Its weird but the past few weeks this is what's been happening to my weight.

It goes up for a few days, suddenly stops, maintain the same number for barely a day, and the next few days after that I drop back down. Its like a cycle. I havent changed anything in my diet, nor am I having more sodium or drinking less water than before. Its always pretty much the same. A week ago I weighed in at around 109, and then this week without me changing anything I weigh in at 107? :S 2 pounds lost?? I havent dropped my calories or done any extra exercises. I actually had that huge ice cream pint the other day lol so I wouldnt expect to have lost 2 pounds. But today I started gaining again. Go figure.

Is this normal? Shouldnt the norm be go up a few pounds a day, and then go back down the next or maintain and such not up for more than a day or so and then down for more days at a time?

I mean maybe this is my body's reaction to food, since I did have an ED before and I zig zagged my calories way too much for the past months, but this last few weeks Ive remained on the same target everyday (1,600 calories sedentary- I stay at home all day) even if I gained for a day or more (whcih would make me start zig zagging a few months ago, but I didtn do this time cos I want to gain and maintain not lose).

thanks!

Body-weight is in a constant state of flux.  It can easily vary 3lbs either way around a set-point for no obvious reason so daily weighing is pretty meaningless.   If you can accept that and shrug your shoulders regardless, fine... keep weighing.  But if it bothers you (which it clearly does) then it's not a good idea to weigh yourself too often.   Pick one day a week... same time, same place and only weigh once.   Then you'll see the trend rather than the daily ups and downs.

I dont get bothered by daily fluctuations, but because I did weigh last sunday and the sunday before that at the same time each morning (which is the weight I really worry about) and I did lose 2 pounds without me aiming for it. Thats why I posted this here. If I were to stay the same both sundays in a row or slightly the same, I wouldnt come here and ask. I weigh daily, yes, but I dont take those by heart.

Take the average over 2 or 3 weeks....  If you're still 2lbs lighter on the same day a week later then decide if you need to do something.  1600 would be a weight-loss intake for most people - even sedentary people.

kay will do that then. Ill prolly gain it back though as I am gaining weight like a week ago. Ill keep that in mind.

I did feel like 1,600 was low but CC and other calculators give me that number for a sedentary lifestyle :/ I probably still try and up my intake, but thanks for your input.

I agree with gi-jane.

Maybe you have a high metabolism and need more calories.  Those calculators are based on averages, and we are all individual.

For instance, my sister in law, me, and my best friend are all the same height.  When wearing the same size clothes.. say size 10, my sister in law is 10 pounds lighter than me, and my buddy is 10-15 pounds heavier. WE LOOK THE SAME SIZE. Amazing but true.

Over a few days, I hate to be the one to mention this, but my spouse says I'm fixated, weight fluctuations can be caused by your bowels retaining matter.

And maybe adding an extra granola bar in a day would do it for you. Even if you have half in the morning and half at night.  We can probably all give you pointers on how to add 'sneaky calories'! Like use margerine and mayo on your sandwich. Or don't get the lean choice meat slices. Or put some butter on your veggies, or some cheese!  Wow, that's an easy one, cheese on anything. :D  Just pick one or two of these things in a day, and it will not be so hard to increase your calories if necessary.  Good luck! :D

Maybe the ice-cream sort of kick started your metabolism which caused the weight loss. Occassionally someone will eat a whole lot of junk food and think they will put on 2lbs but instead they lose 2lbs. Sometimes eating a larger quantity of something "naughty" can be a good thing. I do agree with gi-jane, your calories do seem a little low so wait out the week, if your gaining/maintaining then thats fine but if your still losing then just add some more calories. Good Luck :)

I wish I could have a magical machine that could tell me what calories I really do burn a day lol I go by what calculators on the web tell me. They all round me up at about 1,570-1,650 cals a day for a sedentary girl like me. I stay at home all day , and I barely go out, like literaly, barely. I dont study or work, so Im at home sitting around, and just stand up to cook and such, and occasionaly go grocery shopping.

is 1,600 still too low for this? any opinions? If I were to be working or studying and going out more Id definitely say Im not eating enough but I really am a bit confused about it to be honest because of my extremely sedentary lifestyle lol.

Well actually there is a little magical machine that is supposed to tell you how many calories you burn daily. My persona trainer was trying to sell it to me. It's called the Body Bug. You supposedly wear it on your arm and based on your body temp/hydration levels etc it can figure out your calorie burning with 95% accuracy. It's $300 and isn't compatable with a MAC so I can't try it. I would love to though! It would give me so much peace of mind. If you do decide to buy it and try it let me know!

oh wow is there really? Id love to have one too, it would also give me THE biggest peace of mind ever....but $300 sounds like a lot of money to me lol so Im hoping I can find some gym or something that has it so that I can use it lol

My gym is selling it for 250$. Try looking it up online and maybe you can find a better price.

Your natural weight is great, the same as me remember! So as long as you feel slim and healthy and fit, then the exact amount of calories you eat and burn don’t matter!

I know that numbers give you control and reassurance, but that is a part of ED’s that you need to try and break free of - as long as you achieve and maintain your naturally slim weight, then just make sure your eating enough, and if you feel good each day then that is all that counts

Start to challenge the part of the ED that likes control, by being logical and telling yourself that eating healthily and how you feel are the best indicators of health!

This is a fact; you are naturally slim, so as long as you eat healthily and eat enough, you will feel the best good!

This is another fact: if you focus more on the numbers, calories, and things that provide control and comfort your ED, it will not get you any closer to reaching the goal, which is to maintain your slim healthy weight and feel great! In fact, it will make you feel worse counting things.

TYPO - I didn’t mean to say “ you will feel the best good”

It is getting late and I didn’t check my grammar lol.
