Upset!!!! Km not mph!

So..I've been being reallly good about running about 30 mins on a treadmill at my new apt complex 5 times a week for the past three weeks...I thought I was doing so well, until today I figured out that the treadmill has been in km/hr this whole time (I figured it out because it starts at 0.8 instead of 0.5).  I can't find ANYWHERE how to change the thing to mph...but now that I realize I've been "running" at 7.5mph...which is slightly over a 12min/mile, I feel SO SLOW.  I know it's good that I'm running 30 mins straight, I just feel upset about this =(.

How do I get my speed up?  I'm almost embarrased about it!  I know I've still been getting a good workout because I am pushing myself, but still...that's SLOW.

I'm only 5'1'' so I don't expect any amazing 7min miles, but you know...9-10 would be respectable.

Does anyone know how to change treadmills from km to mph?  This stupid one doesn't have a very interactive display or a menu and I can't figure it out for the life of me..it's an older model Landice L7.

It's supposed to say "I realize I've been "running" at 7.5kmh"

i don't know how to change the treadmill, but if it shows your distance and you know how long you run, you can do the math.  right?  1 mile = 1.6km. 

or you can decide how fast you want to try to run and then convert that into km/h.

or you could plan a route in the real world and go outside.

My treadmill also shows km not miles, so I just convert it. Work out your kilometre per hour rate and then multiply by 0.62137 to get your miles per hour rate.

I'm also a slow runner because I'm fairly new to this - started running a couple of months ago. But since I've started my speed has improved by leaps and bounds. Don't focus on your mistake but instead be glad that you now know where are you are at. Now work on slowly improving that speed!

Keep in mind that improving your speed or endurance by increments of less than 10% per week helps reduce your risk of injuries.

My mobile phone has a converter on it...maybe you could just work out a target and work up to that slowly..

I have to use that on here because everything is pounds and inches... and I use cm and kg...

 

I'd probably just make a cheat sheet notecard for myself. As for getting faster, I'd try to work in sprints.  Go a comfortable pace, but every five minutes, crank it up a notch or two for as long as you can.

Oops, that was all neatly in columns when I typed it.

ive been running since about january and i started at 4.5 mph, taking breaks in between, and then increasing it every week or so.  im SUPER slow, and i know it.  but i take pride in knowing i can at least run for 30 mins straight now. i could never do it before.  don't be hard on urself about it, because believe it or not, not a lot of people have the stamina or motivation to keep running for 30 minutes. 

if you want to increase your speed, try what i do - i increase my speed every week by .2 mph.  today is 5.8 mph

I think it's time to switch to the metric system. 

12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, 16 ounces in a pound.  5280 feet in a mile. 

And while we are at it how about one firm rule for spelling i before e and that's it no alternative Laughing!

Check the very bottom front of the tread mill or under the display for a switch.  Also, you could figure out the model # and then google the instructions.
