Urgent! Please i'm ready to binge I'm sooooooooooo Hungry

Quote  |  Reply

I don't know what's wrong with me. No i'm not ready to start my period.

This is the point I always get to dieting like 2-3 weeks into it then for some reason i'm EXTREMELY HUNGRY and want to eat everything in site.

I just spend 450 calories on breakfast and feel like I didn't even eat. I had an egg and cheese burrito.

Why does this happen to me and how can I stop myself from binging right now?

First, it's not good to feel starving.  It could be that you're eating a good amount of calories but you're not eating a lot of bulk so you feel empty.

Case in point: egg and cheese burrito = 450 calories, versus

2 egg whites, 2 slices of toast, a cup of skim milk, 2 medium apple = 415

Way more food and still has fewer calories with more nutrients.

As for stopping yourself binging right now, try drinking a large amount of low-cal liquid like water or diet pop so you have a "full" feeling, then chew a stick of sugar-free gum.  It'll keep your mouth busy and may trick your brain into think, "oh, I've eaten."
Find something healthy to eat. . .I get like that all the time. Then I find something that isn't so high in calories!!! Do you have excess to a grocery store if you don't have anything on hand??? Try taking a walk also!!! Then it will at least speed up your metabolism. Hang in there!!! I always keep carrots around for those days . . . apples, any thing that is low in Calories. I just ate a Special K Bar, and even though it isn't a piece of chocolate cake it took away that urge to binge!!!Sealed
fruit and low fat cheese always work for me when im like that, dont forget the water :)
simple...just dont eat, have some willpower and dicipline. You need to get over it mentaly and you will be fine but this takes time to accomplish. I can tell its not going to work, because you say your dieting. Why not treat it like a new way of life, a renewed lifestyle, your acting as if its painfull and painfull means you really dont want to do this. Your obviously going to feel like this if you feel deprived, sort out the way your treating this quest for weight loss and prehaps it wont feel as bad.

plain hot  tea also helps. Since it's hot, you won't drink it as fast and will get the "I just ate" feeling till lunch.

Spreading out your meals will help against those long waits. So it'll be less likely you'll starve. I eat piratically every 2 hours. Plus I have hot plain decaf green teas in between.

neverending-qi

Are you a troll? No profile filled out and this is the first post you have ever made. Just get over it? Hmmmm if I could JUST GET OVER IT I would not be in this place that i'm in needing to lose weight.

You can tell it's not going to work? Hmmm interesting that you know me so well.

I am in a lifestlye change and it says that in my journals yes I did say dieting because that's what I am doing as well as a lifestyle change.

It is painful and just because it's painful and I am struggling doesn't mean I don't want to do this.

Thank you everyone else who posted.

Pompey.....good choices thanks

aishah.....I think keeping ones mind off of it like you suggested walking is a good idea. I bought some crafts and will do those to keep my mind off of it.

renastar...mmm fruit and cheese, that has worked for me in the past too and I was not thinking of that.....thanks for the reminder

kitsuneyami....yes hot tea always seems to help thanks and definately speading out meals. I started in the beginning trying to do 3 meals a day and found it was too far inbetween for that. The 2-3 hour eating works for me too.

Here's what I did...

I drank some Ovaltine with some soy milk and now I feel satisfied. It's very chocolaty and sweet and took care of whatever craving or binge feeling I was having.

Go Shia, go shia!

I dont mean to project myself on you but I love wraps, particularly the SB southwestern breakfast wrap but eat it for lunch.  When I tried it for breakfast I got hungrier at 930 then I do w/o carbs at breakfast - for me its the sugar drop.  If carbs at breakfast arent a problem, it might be a temp thing.
Im sorry if you were offended by my comment. I didn't intend on offending you. I only tried to help, take Muslims (I'm a Muslim myself, ironicly enough a Shia Muslim like your name lol) for an example, when they fast? Ive never met a Muslim who spoke orally about their fasting in a negative way in-fact they love it and no they don't eat huge amounts of food when they break it like most people think they do. I'm friends with Buddhists who practise shaolin kung fu, they fast to clear their mind and they even say its not possible to do such a thing without will power determination and dicipline, weight loss is actually simple compared to what they do. They put their body through torture yet never fail to succumb to detrimental actions (not saying you do btw). A Positive mind goes a long way. It's like this, imagine your hungry and you buy  a snickers bar, but you can get an apple instead, what difference would it make between the two? the taste of the snickers bar only will merley satisfy some hormones in your brain but you will feel bad for it later, where as the apple wont to much harm and will satisfy the hunger. Yet again I'm sorry if i seemed offensive and I only wish to help you through this noble journey of yours

Cravings and temptations and urges are different for each of us ... we are each uniquely and wonderfully made!!! What works for some people doesn't always work for another, but I think it's important that we do our best to stay on track with our healthy eating habits and to encourage and help one another in this ongoing adventure!

Shiagirl, my suggestion is to add some veggies next time... maybe with a little less cheese. Broccoli is only 25 calories a cup, and mushrooms are only 15 calories a cup ... and onions and peppers are also great high-fiber, filling options, too.

I've found that three things help me feel full: fat, protein, and fiber. Since I'm trying to limit my daily intake of fats (and healthy fats, at that), I often seek lean proteins and fiber (usually veggies) to help satisfy me.

I've also found that spicy food can really help ... salsa is GREAT to have on hand! Even spicy-hot V-8 juice, or even adding a few drops of hot sauce to low-sodium chicken or beef bouillon (since I know you are watching your sodium!)

It sounds like you found a great solution this time .... YAY!

You can do this ... just take things one meal at at time, one day at a time, one pound at a time!

=^..^= MOLLY

Thanks molly.....your always so encouraging Smile I did try the veggies the other morning in an omelet and it just wasn't for me. I'm sure it works great for others but me and veggies in the mornings do not mix lol. Now lunch is a different story I love salad at lunch with all kinds of veggies in it. mmmmmmmmmm

And your right the fiber, fat and protein really help alot in the mornings I have found that as well. OH yesssssssss good ol low cal salsa and tastes great too......forgot about that one thanks for the reminder !

Hmmm.... no veggies for breakfast, okie dokie. Laughing

You might get some puffed millet cereal ... only 60 calories for a cup! That means you can have 2 or 3 cups, even .... with milk of course .... that will surely fill you up! It might be worth mixing with a more tasty cereal .... to give it more bulk and fiber!

=^..^= MOLLY

I find that my body is really craving protien at these times, and I have these fits (I call em) daily where I all the sudden want to eat everything in site (bout mid day, and I work out in the mornings). I will go for some tuna, or chicken and it calms down, even helps with my raving sweet tooth!

For me, Getting over it, is not an option, it rivals a preganacy craving and if you've ever had one, they are vicious! lol maybe try the protein approach for a day adn see if it helps out. otherwise, you've gotten great replies :)

Well I am proud of you for drinking ovaltine and not running off for snacks and junk.

Don't feel discouraged by any comments!  This is a place for support, and if you need it, you should ask for it.  Good luck to you, dear.

thanks again for the posts alspencer, locochick and molly..yes i've found protein works wonders to help satiate hunger .

guess it was just one of those days. I'm feeling much better today.

Dear Shia, I'm glad you found what you needed to satisfy the cravings.  I agree that you should ignore negative people/comments.

Pompey's idea is a good one.  I know don't feel right if I don't start off the day with lots of protein and complex carbs.  As Sun123, noted carbs get some people off to a bad start while others do OK with complex carbs.

I also think your idea of eating smaller meals more frequently will help especially including, as Molly suggested, protein and fiber.  It really does sound like a blood sugar thing to me.

Best of luck, kiddo!

Jane :-)

Hi Shia *waves*

Everybody is different, but I know for me, breakfast has to be high fiber and fairly high in protein.  Some breakfasts I love are fruit smoothies {frozen fruit and soy/cow milk whatever your preference} and a slice of 100 percent whole grain bread with a little bit of peanut butter. Generally I try to keep my meals at about 60 percent carbs and 10-20 percent each of  edit, I meant fat not fiber  and protein. I also limit my carbs to those that are naturally high in fiber and nutrients. White flour is basically sugar with nutrients added. Instead of a white tortilla on your egg and cheese wrap use a whole grain wrap, one with lots of fiber.  use one egg yolk and two whites, a low fat cheese and add a glass of soy/cow milk and a piece of fruit such as an apple or an orange.

I also have a snack half way or so between each meal and make sure to drink lots of water, or tea {think low/non calorie low/non caffiene drinks, with no artificial sweeteners which an actually make some people crave sugar since it confuses your body. It tastes sweet, expects sugar and gets grumpy when their isn't any.  make sure you do have some fat though. Fat is a necessary macro nutrient and fat and protein, along with fiber slow down your digestion as well as slow the rise of your blog sugar, keeping it even instead of spiking and dropping which can cause binging and uncontrolled hunger.  The more fruits, veggies and whole grains you can eat the better, preferablly as unproccessed as possible.  don't make foods foribiden. I choose not to eat certain foods, but they are not forbidden I could have them if I wanted to, I simply choose for nutrional/ethical/personal reasons not to.

don't think of yourself as being on or off a diet. We all have a diet, diet simply refers to any one particular way of eating. Rather think of lifestyle, loose your weight slowing eating in a manner that is tasty, healthy, fullfilling and can be maintained over the course of a lifetime, allowing for adjustments as necessary. give yourself permission to enjoy fun foods from time to time. If you are eating healthy 80 - 90 percent of the time, than a piece of chocolate cake, a candy bar or your great aunt's famous fudge won't hurt you, and will actually be good for you. life's to short not to have some fun foods. the key is balance. And allowing yourself to be imperfect. If you have a bad day, well you meant to do that, so you will eat better the next day adn maybe walk an extra mile. Life goes on.  Human's will never be perfect, sometimes good enough has to be good enough.

I also make a point to keep busy.  If I'm not working, or at the gym,  there are plenty of things at home that need to be done, I can go for a walk, start that project I've been ignoring too long, call a friend I've been meaning to talk to,  go to the library, read a really engrossing book, Anything that occupies your body and mind.

Also make sure to keep active. It may not necessarily decrease your hunger, but it will do wonders for your metabolism so you can better use what you eat.

Great advice from thecrankyone. Protein has a nice effect of keeping me full longer than carbs, but unfortunately many proteins come with lots of fat: cheese, eggs, peanut butter. I go for low or nonfat dairy, including cheese. A microwaved red potato or two with cottage cheese and a bit of green onion is good for me when I need something fillling. Good luck shiagirl! Stick with it and you should get through the "hungry" time in a week or so :)
