Should I use my activity Calories?
Ok I'm on 1200 calories a day....On days I work, which right now is 6 days a week,I burn up to 1000 activity calories a day above my normal 1,900 just being alive calories. So my daily burn will be at 2,900 and all I'm taking in is 1200.Giving me a deficit of 1700 calories for the day.
From what I understand this is to much of a deficit?
I'm new here and have lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks which is right on track,But I dont want to go into starvation mode......I am overweight ,and I did it by not eating enough most of the time. And eating the wrong things when I did eat
So I'm trying to do this the right way.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Definitely an unhealthy deficit- shoot for between 500 and 700, unless you're really heavy, then you could go up to 1000, but you really shouldn't go beyond that.
I agree. Besides avoiding starvation mode, smaller changes are easier to stick to. Not to mention, there are lots of accounts on this site of people who lose more weight keeping their deficit small.
It can be tempting to cut like crazy because the results are there, but then what? If you eat 1800-2000 cals a day and the weight loss slows, you have lots of room to comfortable lower it a bit.
As for eating, I think of my diet as how I feed my body instead of how I deprive it. I try and eat green leafy veggies everyday, protein at every meal, lots of veggies, fruit, and some whole grain. By the time I have all that in I've eaten a lot all day, but I'm still averaging about 1600 cals.
yes to the above. if you are burning 2900 you need to eat 1900 at a minimum! maybe a bit higher. up to 2300 or 2400 and your still running a decent deficit.
eat foods you enjoy, that taste good, and that are healthy.
fruits and veggies, whole grains, healthy fats (nuts, fish, olive oil), quality proteins (lean meats, fish, poultry, legumes, nuts etc.). drink enough water! the water is like miracle medicine, i swear. helps the skin, keeps you hydrated, helps with weight loss, helps build muscles, your cells love it, part of any healthy diet!
this has to be sustainable if you want to keep off what you lose, so your weight loss diet shouldn't be too very different from how you see yourself eating healthy for a life time, at least thats my take on it, instead, deficits are obtained with exercise and portion control.
Thanks, I thought that I should since not eating enough seemed to put me where I am now Im 48 lbs over my goal. I drink water all day long , I am always thirst it seems and have always been that way so I know I drink plenty. Sometimes i find it hard to eat that much, I ussually eat tons of vegies and little meat always have. But sometimes I forget to eat...lol I know sounds crazy. But hopefully journaling my food all the time will help me see how much i need or dont need.
Thanks all for your replies![]()
