Could use female advice, remedies, suggestions
I've always had painful symptoms the first 24 hours or so of my period.... But this evening is by far worse than normal.
I don't experience sharp pains as most women generally describe. Instead it's an intense yet constant dull pain in my lower back and pelvis. The lower back pain is always bad, but tonight I think I may die! And come to think of it, it's never been this bad in the pelvis region either.
Besides ibuprofen and midol.... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ease this pain? I usually sleep it off (curled in a nice little ball), as warm baths or heating pads generally do nothing for me.
But it's only 730 and I'm not sure I can sleep through it this time.
Please help.
yeah i have similar issues....when I got on BC it got a little better...not tolerable but I didnt pass out or throw up from the pain....
I really suggest just trying to sleep through it...drugs didnt help or any of the other stuff people suggest...I've resolved to just suffer through it....doctors were no help either! boo
I normally dont suggest this, but maybe some sleeping aid or melatonin or something could help u sleep?
Hey, I feel for you. I get exactly the same kind of pains. It's almost worse than cramps because it stays there all day.
What I try to do is-- don't freak out!-- excersize. I know it's the last thing a PMSing woman generally wants to do, but for the backaches, it really does help. You don't have to do a full workout, but if you can bear a couple minutes jogging on a treadmill, that will ease the pressure. Also try some stretches that arch the lower part of your back, like a backbend, or this one where you lie down on the floor with your knees bent and your feet curled under you. Believe it or not, it feels good.
If you can't bring yourself to excersize or stretch, you can always lie on the couch with your feet up on the back of it, and your upper body hanging off the edge. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
I hope these work for you next month!
Been there too, huge sympathies - I remember the day i was rolling around in pain and my mum was about to call out the emergency Dr.
Probably won't help you tonight but see your Dr and they'll try you on various painkillers for a couple of years which work at first and then wear off. Then they put me on the pill and haleluja it worked and i've been on it ever since for that very reason - in fact I came off it for a short while (I'd heard you were supposed to) and after 4 months I was like WHOA get me back on.
This advice might confilict somewhat with your weightloss/mainentance goals tho as some women put weight on but just see ur Dr and tell them all your concerns. From me it's a thumbs up.
As for tonight, yeah a bit of light exercise, a warm bath or hot water bottle, mug of tea, more ibuprofen (have you taken up to the limit yet?) and i dunno where you're from but in UK we have stuff called Feminax. It worked on me for a while - anything to help - though I think it's paracetamol based so depends what else ur having. What about a large shot of brandy? - or could somone hit you over the head to knock you out till morning?>> of course I'm kidding, but hey desperate time call for desperate measures.
Hang in there girl - evidently you are not alone.
Oh, goodness, I'm so sorry. I suffer from dysmenorrhoea, myself, so I can somewhat sympathise with you. My symptoms could put me out for the whole of my cycle!
Even though you've waved them off, I really suggest you try those warm baths anyway. They ease the spasms of cramps. Lavender oil is good to help soothe your nerves through the pain - so a lavender scented hot bath? Awesome, to me.
I was put on the pill, for my pains, so if this is common I suggest you speak with a doctor.
I had a similar experience when I was younger. My mom didn't want me to go on birth control pills when I was 14 nor did she want me to be put on addictive pain medications - so for awhile my doctor told me to take four iburprofen every four hours while I was awake the week before my period was due and continue while I had my period. This ended up being like 200+ ibuprofen pills a month and I get some, but relatively little relief from it. Then my doctor suggested alternating ibuprofen and tylenol - they are two seperate medications so you can do this - take 3-4 iburpofen tabs followed by 2 tylenol tabs two hours later, then 3-4 ibuprofen tabs two hours later. So, you're getting medication every two hours. That worked surprisingly well but it was still a lot of pills to take. Finally, at 16, my mom relented and I was put on the pill. I'm still on horomones today and scared to go off!
Thanks everyone, I apprecaite the tips.
As you can see.... I lived through the night! So that's a good thing haha.
I ended up curling into the fetal position while watching a scary movie last night. The position to.... ease the pain? I dont know, there is something about the wayI am laying that seems to trick my brain into believing it works. The movie to try and keep my mind off the pain.
I finally got sleepy around 1130 and went to sleep. Took lots of ibuprofen every couple of hours.
I get real anxiety about seeing doctors. Not sure where that stems from. I know we're supposed to see an OBGYN when you become sexually active, or turn 18, whichever comes first... I'm still not sexually active but about 5 years past 18. My parents were never very good about being concerned about my health, so my mother never pushed me there.
But after last night.... I think I need to get over my fear and head in there. Plus I freak myself out every month researching my symtoms and what the cause could be..... If it's something more than just common pains then I need to do myself a favor and get it checked out now.
Thanks again everyone. Tips on overcoming fear of the obgyn would be nice too!
