Do you use Geico auto insurance?

Quote  |  Reply

I use an agent that I really like who works with multiple insurance companies, but unfortunately she can't beat the quote I received from Geico.  However, she brought up a valid point that with Geico, you don't get an agent to contact when you need them, you just dial a 1-800 number and hope for the best.

Anyone have any experience with Geico?

Geico was cheap for my mom until my sister, eighteen at the time, got her drivers license.  Because she still used my mom's address, her insurance jumped up 300 bucks.  And it didn't have any coverage what-so-ever for my sister.  It was just because there was a teenage driver in the house.

Momma quickly dropped Geico.

I used to have Geico and did have an accident (not my fault) when I was with them.  I got a hold of an agent right away, never ran into any problems or headaches. Overall I was very satisfied with their service.  I got a new car and my insurance jumped very high.  I went from a 1996 Neon to a 2007 Saturn.  Well, I wasn't prepared for the huge jump (didn't figure in the need for full coverage...oops), anyway, I checked different companies.  They were all around the same but I chose a different company.  I think it was maybe $10 a month or less cheaper.  But, every little bit helps.

I have had them for 10 years, no problems to report, but no accidents or tickets either.. *knocking wood*

I dropped them in 2000 when I bought my home because they didnt offer me a discount for car/ home and I did better through Metropolitan.  I think it varies by individual.

I dont think rate jumps after claim(s) is unique to any particular insurance company though Im sure some are worst offenders than others.

Personally, I dont want or need an agent. I have one because of the company Im with but am fine with the assistance (and availability) of using an 800 number. Plus Im prefer the economy of not paying a middle man agent. Doesnt always transition to the insured but thinking the odds are better.  My Metro is better than Geico, but when it was just my car, the Geico no agent was most economical.

I've had GEICO insurance for 15 years.  I have stayed with them this long because I get discounts for being a government employee (which is how GEICO originated) and with my university's alumni association.  I have always been pleased with their customer service.  I have been involved in 3 car accidents over the years and I have never had a problem getting in touch with a live agent on the phone.  When you call the toll free number because of an accident claim, it bypasses the automated phone system and sends you to a live customer agent instantly.  They are usually thorough and sympathetic.

I prefer having an agent that can help me with anything I need. I currently have State Farm and have the best agent ever. I had Country Companies before, liked the agent, but I moved out of town, the prices for me were better with State Farm.

At any rate, I say if you love the agent, stick with them.

We've had Geico for over 10 years, maybe 12.  Between the two of us, 4 accidents, none our fault.  Geico has always been very quick, professional, helpful.  Their claims handling is done state by state with a team, and someone from the team is available 24 hours.  I've never had a problem from dealing with multiple claims handlers, not even in an out-of-state accident.

And we've never had a premium jump, besides from buying a new vehicle, of course.  When we purchased a home a few years ago, we intended to transfer to whichever carrier we chose for our homeowner's insurance, but we ended up staying with Geico.  No one else could beat their premium, even with the multiple policy discount.

We switched to Geico about a year ago. We used to get the multiple car/ and home discount with our old insurance and had an agent, but found Geico to be a lot cheaper.  My oldest daughter had an accident and the person at fault had Geico and we had no problems dealing with them- it was our insurance company that took for ever to settle on the passenger in her car's claim. Since Geico has a 24 hour line to call its just like having an agent.  In fact we get better service and faster answers with them than we ever did with our agent.

Every time I got a quote from Geico, it was way too pricey.  I had progressive for a few years, then got a great quote from allstate (reduced my insurance by over $800 per year)!!  So I would try to get a quote from them.  I have a great agent, too, if you want the info.

I will never use GEICO again!  We switched to them a couple years back when the company we had upped the rates for motorcycles.  When we moved to Guam, they absolutely raked us over the coals!!  Literally tripled our rates, for NO REASON!!!  I told the guy on the phone when I cancelled for they should be ashamed for taking advantage of military persons and that I would recommend to everyone I know to use someone else!!  Never again!!

No, I don't have them for my insurance, but I used to work there.  Progressive has always been cheaper for us for whatever reason, so we've had them for years.  I did have an accident where a guy rear-ended me, and his insurance was Geico.  The claim went fine and they paid up.

Frankly the agent thing is overrated and a thing of the past.  Most agents are clueless about the policies they sell (I've worked for several insurance companies over the years and that has been my experience across the board) and besides if you have a claim they aren't the ones who handle it - the claim will get assigned to an adjuster, who will be far more knowledgeable about your claim and what is covered than the agent is.  Also your agent will not be available 24/7 like a customer service/claims 800 number would be.

I am all for the cheapest carrier.  You can always switch to another if you don't like their service.

CD - your mom's insurance policy would have covered your sister unless she specifically got an endorsement that excluded your sister from being able to drive her vehicle.  If that had been the case, her insurance would not have increased.  If another insurance carrier was lower, it is either because they didn't know your sister lived there, or they put the excluded driver endorsement on your mom's policy.  Nothing to do with Geico whatsoever.

I had Geico when I lived in the States and was always very happy with them.  Infact, I was disappointed when I moved to Canada and couldn't use Geico anymore.  Even though I am now with an insurance company where I have an actual agent, I think I got better customer service with Geico.

I've had GEICO for a couple of years now and haven't had a problem.  I got rear ended this past Spring and the lady who hit me had GEICO as well.  By the time I got home, she had been in touch with GEICO and had gotten the ball rolling.  I had no trouble getting the check for the repairs and my car is good as new.  My son hit a deer about a year ago and the repairs and the payment went pretty smoothly.  All in all I have been happy with GEICO so far.  It certainly beats Erie which is what I used to have.

I have been happy with Geico.  I had a minor accident last year (my fault) and they took very good care of me, and my rate hardly went up at all.
I had high quotes from GEICO but had the lowest quotes through Progressive. I was in a car accident where the cop cited me  even though the insurance company determined it wasn't my fault (the guy who rear-ended me was in his 50s so the cop assumed I was being reckless since I was young). I liked having Progressive...

We're with State Farm because I wanted the benefit (and discounts) that go along with having multiple policies with a single carrier: auto, homeowner's, flood insurance and personal articles coverage.  And, of course, State Farm has a great rating within the industry, too.

MOLLY

I've never been with them, but have gotten quotes from them several times in the past (I usually get quotes from a lot of companies every 3 years to make sure I'm still getting the best deal).  GEICO has never been the cheapest and at times has been very high.  37 years old, no wrecks, no tickets, driving a mini-van.  I'm with Farm Bureau and have been for years.  I have homeowner's with them as well.  They are very cheap, and the service is wonderful.

In a year's time, I had 1 auto claim for roadside assistance, 1 auto claim for a cracked windshield, and last but not least, 1 auto claim for hail damage so severe that they totalled the vehicle.  My premiums actually went down the next year.  I also had a homeowner's claim for roof damage due to hail (different hail storm than the car).  They replaced the entire roof and didn't raise my premiums.  First class service all the way on every claim.  Aside from the day of the hail damage on the car (which happened on a day that the claims office got hit by a tornado), I've been on the phone with a live person within a few minutes and had a check within 3 days.  I can't say enough about them.

This is Farm Bureau, NOT Farmer's - those are 2 different companies.  Fortunately I have not had a Farmer's claim since the only policies I have with them are life insurance.  LOL!

I had Progressive when I was younger and married to someone with a terrible driving record (10 tickets in 1 year, suspended license, and driving on a suspended license, 1 wreck.   Yes, in 1 year.)  Progressive was the only company that  would insure us.  I had no claims while with them, but they were really great to work with.  My husband at the time was in the military and when he was out of the country, I would take him off of the policy and they would refund the difference.  I was always having to add/drop him since this was back during the first Gulf War and Somalia.

Fuzzy said it more clearly than I but how well the insurance companies have done with marketing to present insurance salespeople as now insurance agents.

Consider how we perceive an insurance salesperson which is truthful - a representative who sells and maintains sales for commision based on your cost.

The renaming to insurance "agent" has been promoted for us to believe insurance salespeople agents are looking out for the best interests of the insured and not themselves/ their employer.  Excellent marketing considering how ins salespeople had grown to be folks you wanted to avoid because their commision driven industry was so transparent.  The term agent takes focus from them as someone who earns commission based on the size of your premiums and refocuses it on them as of they were customer service, not the sales department.

Time for the automotive industry to jump aboard - not car salespeople but auto agents.

Now see I like having an agent--she fixes it when I am late getting paperwork in, or sends it to my dad when I am flaking or completely overwhelmed with moving/bar exam/single parenthood to even check or send mail.  She knows our family and has worked with us for something like the last 20 years.  She dug around for the best rate for me for my homeowners insurance (literally less than half the price of some of the other companies that she works with).  So I have to say as far as the admin type stuff it has been very useful for me to have an agent, and has kept me protected.

Claim wise, god knows.   I have never made a claim on auto insurance.  Or homeowners.  **knock on wood**

I work for the company I have my insurance through. We don't get employee discounts, but I have both my cars and my house so I get the multi car/home owners discount. For filling out a survey for both my cars and house they gave us $400.00. I also got a notice about the flood plain change that went into effect a few years ago. Called my agent asked him about the notice said he would look into it for us rather than us trying to figure out if we are in a flood plain or not. We shouldn't be, but we don't know for sure he took it and ran with it. I am not sure Geico wouldn't do that...

Had a deer hit us (we didn't hit the deer) it ran into the side of my truck. Called claims, it was like 11PM very dark two lane road in TN. First question out of her mouth was everyone alright, do we need a rescue? She would have called them for us. I thought that was great...
