I use Half & Half in my coffee and butter on my toast ... and I am ok with that!

Quote  |  Reply

I have given into my desires and now only use half-and-half for my coffee and I use Light whipped butter on my toast. YUM!

As long as you don't use much Half & Half it makes your coffee taste so much better and is not more than about 25 cals - probably less. Same with the light butter. If you use the whipped kind from Land-O-Lakes, it is no more caloric than those "healthy" spreads. And tastes so much better too!

What are your semi-indulgences food-wise that help you get through the day without too much guilt?

I drink 2% milk and eat full-fat sour cream, I also have a coffee with cream and sugar about every 2 days (the rest of the time I drink lots of plain tea).  I try not and use any other added oils/fats in my diet to make up for it, plus I consume in moderation and don't feel guilty at all.

I would rather cut somewhere else than skip the things I love and be bitter about 'dieting'.

Edit:  My coffee cream is 20 cals per tbsp, so I stick to a tbsp and have a smaller coffee, with sugar for about 40 cals.  No big deal!

ahh!!!  i could NEVER give up half & half in my coffee either!  it's just not the same with anything less.  i figure, it's only a tbsp or two, and it's SO worth it.

Real brown sugar in my oatmeal, whole milk in my coffee, and, of course, a bit of butter, especially if it's on really good homemade bread.

Enjoy yourself. :) Tasty things and fats are not a bad thing. Just as the saying goes, everything in moderation.

it's regular cottage cheese for me. the fat free stuff (and even the reduced fat ones) don't taste right and have an odd texture.  Tongue out

Ditto! I've tried several supposed healthier creamers in my coffee (skim milk, fat free coffee-mate) but I love the half and half the best. I would rather use it, and besides, you don't have to put in a ton to make it creamy.

I'll try that butter you recommended. Usually, I snag the Smart Balance Light but I don't use butter that often anyway.

I have to give another vote for butter! I also use the whipped kind to help with portion size. I figure as a more natural food it is probably better for me than the margarine or RF kind anyway. Moderation. I generally do not eat more than 1TBSP a day....50 cals total in my daily caloric intake....very minor and sooooo worth it!!! I also have to use real mayo if it is going on a sadwich, I can use the RF stuff in recipes. I usually dont use any at all anymore just mustard, but when I do...it is the real stuff!

hehe, I drink coffee black, always have.  However, I have learned to use butter in moderation - the key word moderation.  I used to "need" a half of stick of butter on anything toasted, now I am doing great knowin just a bit goes a long way !!!! Just as you had said nyc. This is awesome.  Glad to hear everyone is enjoyin' food : )

I totally agree! I also use half and half and real butter.  The creamers and margarines are full of hydrogenated oils that our body doesn't know what to do with...so it stays in our colon forever!! eewww!!

I always spread regular Jif peanut butter on my toast.  I just can't do reduced fat peanut butter- definitely not the same.  I drink 2% milk, too.

I don't mind Reduced Fat Wheat Thins or Mayonaisse, though- to me, they taste the same.  But some things certainly aren't as tasty as the real deal.

i hate ALL sugar-free yogurts. they just taste fake and vile to me, so i buy the real thing :)

I use butter on my toast too! mmm it's not "toast" without the butter.

I eat chocolate EVERY day. 72% dark and I enjoy every minute of it.

That's all I can think of for now :)

I'm starting to drift a little more toward this...

People that eat more natural foods, even the high-cal ones like butter, just tend to be thinner.

It's the people that pump themselves up with chemicals and nasty stuff that are always having problems with weight.

i actually just rediscovered real mayonnaise and the diff is amazing, its very good and you dont need massive amounts bc its so rich. it makes a chicken sandwich! lol

I agree, real mayo all the way and also real PB, couldn't imagine anything less. Though with the real mayo I have to be careful as I loooooooooove it and could eat tons very easily.

Real sugar, and butter.  Sweeteners and Margarine and I just don't get along.  I don't think margarine tastes ANYTHING like butter.

I use real (cane) sugar in my coffee in the morning, just less than I used to "need".

I buy 1% cottage cheese instead of fat free (too runny)

I'll eat white bread if it's freshly baked (and only then!)

I put a FEW mini chocolate chips or chocolate coated sunflower seeds in my plain yogurt & honey every morning.

I think that all dairy products should be whole fat with the exception of SOME cheese, and milk.  Low fat cream cheese is SO gross, and don't even get me started on LF sour cream and mayo. That's just my personal preference.  But I'm allergic to dairy so I rarely have it anymore.

I've learned to drink my coffee black, and I really do enjoy it especially when I'm eating dessert.  The sweetness in the dessert offsets the 'bitterness' in the black coffee.

2% cheese+yogurt

REGULAR cream cheese!

  • Real nut butter and not the reduced fat kind

That's all i can think of xD
