I could use some help....
So I am a 25 year old female who weighs 183 currently. I eat about 1250 calories daily, sometime higher (1300), and i exercise often (as in 3-5 times a week doing both cardio and strength training). I'm trying to get down to 150 by next august/September....which is only a pound a week, but nothing is happening!
When i was just doing calorie counting I had gotten down to 175 and then decided to stat doing exercise too. I had start This caused my weight to stop going down, and start going up! I tried eating more, exercising less, and anything else i can think of and now im back up to 183 and I'm upset. I cant seem to start losing weight again, the scale wont go back down.......I'm afraid to stop exercising because I don't want lose the muscle tone, but there has to be something I'm missing!
If someone can help me with this, some ideas would be greatly appreciated.
The thing that's missing are some calories.... Sounds counter-intuitive but you need to eat well to lose weight. 1250 is extremely low given your size, age and exercise level. 1250 was already low even before you were exercising so you'll have lost weight rapidly at first. Too low an intake for too long and your metabolism will slow down making it very difficult to lose weight.
With your stats you need betwen 2300 and 2600 calories to maintain your weight. To lose weight you should aim for about 1500-1700 per day, therefore. To boost your metabolism have a day this week (Christmas would do it) where you get a good 2500 cals. Then return to weight loss at 1500-1700, no lower. Once you're below 160 then you could go to 1400-1600. Best of luck
I don't know how tall you are but you said you have tried eating more? I am 5'4" and my bmr (basic metabolic rate) is 1400. Which means I never eat less than that. And then on the days that I exercise I eat more. 1250-1300 seems slightly low especially if you are doing cardio. My calories naturally get zig zagged because i don't do the same amount of calorie burn every day. How high is your deficit normally, like on average?
Oh, my deficits are usually around 500-700....I'm 5'4 as well.
Thank you ! I wasn't sure how much i really needed to eat! Calorie counter kept telling me to get at low as possible, which never did seem quite right.....Thank you again for responding!
You're eating too few calories. Your body is flipping out, thinking you're going to die, so it's packing the pounds back on. I made that mistake too. 1500-1700 is a good number for me!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
