Used to eat...now eat (Eat this, not that)

Quote  |  Reply

I was thinking how things have changed, and how the choices I make now help me continue to be healthy and lose weight. My taste buds have adjusted and now I find things without added salt or sugar to taste good, instead of tasting like they were bland.

I USED TO eat oatmeal with lots of brown sugar and milk

Now I eat oatmeal with blueberries and banana's, no milk

I USED TO eat fries at Mc Donald's

Now I eat a ice cream cone if I go

I USED TO need lots of ranch dressing on my pita pocket

Now I mix it with water and use a little bit

I USED TO eat half a pizza

Now I make my own with just a little cheese and lots of veggies (and eat less)

I USED to eat seasoned rice mixes with lots of salt

Now I make brown rice and season it myself

What do you all do???

I like this post It makes you reflect on your old ways. which honestly just makes me laugh now.

I USE TO: jog two blocks to Mcdonalds to get a large strawberry shake thinking I had burned off all the calories in my run.

NOW: I jog two miles and go home and eat oatmeal.

I USE TO: Dip EVERYTHING in ranch dressing, not because I liked it, but because that's what all my friends did and I wanted to fit in.

NOW: I dip everything in either hummus or salsa. seriously popcorn and salsa is the BEST try it.

I USE TO: skip breakfast and lunch just so I could totally gorge myself at dinner (i'm talking like an entire pizza with chocolate milk and a GIANT ice cream sundae for dessert)

NOW: I eat 8 mini meals a day and i'm never hungry :)

I USE TO: think that your weight made you who you are.

NOW: I realize i'm still me no matter what the scale says.

Wow...yours are good!

It made me think of how many things we USED to eat just because it was there, or seemed the thing to do...when it really doesn't taste all that good.

My 10 yr old loves to play a game where we feed eachother various things while the other person closes their eyes and had to guess what it is. The rule is nothing gross that you wouldn't eat yourself, but sometimes the creations are VERY inventive. Well, when you do it like that, you realize some things really don't taste good...you just expect them to, so you might eat them mindlessly. Like one time I gave her a slice of a ho-ho with strawberry jam on it...and she spit it out and said....GROSS!!

I also USED to: Dip everything in ranch dressing...Pizza and tortilla chips especially.

Now: I don't even use ranch at all

I USED to: Get a venti caramel frapp. with extra caramel

Now: I get a skinny latte or light frappachino

I USED to: Drink regular sodas all the time!

NOW: I have a diet soda every now and again as a treat

I USED to: hate fish

Now: I love it

I USED to get McD's breakfast all the time!

Now: I make my own egg muffin w egg subsitute, whole grain english muffin, and fat free cheese!

I USED to have some ice cream or chocolate dessert EVERY night.

Now: I eat sugar free pudding....if I want it special I'll eat it w bananas or some cool whip.

I USED to eat a lot of chips.

Now: I eat sea salted oven roasted almonds. YUMMY

Very good idea!

I USED to: Eat burgers, chicken, steak, pork, lamb everyday.

Now: I eat only fish

I USED to: Eat regular butter, regular yogurt etc.

Now: I eat I Cant Believe Its Not Butter spray and fat free yogurt

I USED to: Eat a snicker and coke EVERY DAY at lunch time

Now: Ill eat a snickers every 2 weeks if Im lucky, and dont touch reg. sodas anymore

I USED to: Eat enough for 4/5 people

Now: I eat enough for me and maybe my little brother (hehehe)

I USED to: Completley give up whenever I made a mistake with my diet and just binge out (And I do not take that word lightly...i mean BINGE...not the way people seem to throw that word around these days) and purge and repeat.

Now: I brush it off and try and do good the rest of the day and extra good the next day

I USED to: Drink my tea and coffee with loads and cream and sugar

Now: I drink my tea with nothing (sometimes splenda) and my coffee with equal and a tad bit of cream if Im not feeling it black.

I know this isnt a part of  the game but I wanna mention that I ALWAYS drank fat free milk. Not 2%, not 1%, Not even "Reduced Fat"...ALWAYS fat free. I just could never bring myself to drink anything but fat free. XD

Awsome life changes everyone! Thanks for participating! It is so nice to hear what other are doing to be succesfull!

My changes may not be that dramatic, because just eating small portions and not restricting myself is what works best for ME, but I have made some changes.

I USED TO eat lots of full-fat cheese. NOW I try to only have Reduced Fat (2%).

I USED TO have a venti caramel frappuccino once a week or more. NOW I have a tall frappuccino light and it's less than once a week, sometimes even less than once a month.

I USED TO supersize everything. NOW I eat the smallest of the combos IF I have to eat fast food (and I rarely do at all).

I USED TO give up once I binged for one day and broke my "diet" and get depressed about it and then binged more. NOW I just brush it off, keep going and try to stay on track.

I USED TO eat a lot of eggs and bacon and giant breakfast. NOW I have that kind of breakfast once a week, and keep it simple and low-cal the rest of the week. I use Egg Beaters when I'm craving egg on weekdays.

I USED TO fill my plate twice when we had pasta. NOW I just eat until I'm full and don't do any repeats.

I USED TO have sugary packets of flavored oatmeal. NOW I have simple oatmeal with a bit of cinnamon and splenda, and maybe throw some fruit in.

I USED TO park my car right next to the mall/store/grocerystore/restaurant/etc entrance. NOW I park as far away as I can unless my knee is doing tricks on me, which is very rare since I started walking and working out. Most of the nice trees that keep my car under the shadow are in the far spots anyhow, so it has other benefits.

I still have a lot of changes to make (mostly regarding the way I see myself, not just my habits), but it's nice to look back and see that people can make changes to benefit their health. Writing it down makes it look a lot easier.

I USED TO eat 4500-5000 calories of healthy foods every day.  I got fat.

NOW I eat 2000-2400 calories of the same healthy foods every day.  I've lost 25 pounds in 3 months.  I also feel like I'm starving to death!

Now I eat healthier food, eat the right amount and exercise more.

I still eat junk food, but in moderation (both in amount and frequency).

I rarely ate salad (and then as a side dish).

Now I love salad and it forms part of my main meal.

I am a total foodie and wish to remain so. However the way to stop from getting obese again I need to lead a healthier lifestyle.

I am really inspired, and can relate to everything you all have posted. It is very good to see how changing little habits (or big ones) have such a big effect on how you feel.

You should all be so proud!!Laughing
