I'm almost 59, retired for 3 years, height 5'10". In 1970 I weighed 296. Got married a year later at 185, and am still married to that love of my life. Over a few years climbed to 205 where I felt comfortable and stayed for about 20 years. At 45 my metabolism seemed to change and I started packing the pounds on although I had a very active job. Took a sedentary desk job in '04 and '05 and retired in '06 at 280.

In mid March '08, at 305, my wife and I started counting calories CC and I discovered what a portion size was. I'm down 40# at this time with a goal of 205 when I turn 60 in 12/09.

I didn't stop eating any thing except M&M's, as I was an m&m-aholic. I stil have an occasional piece of chocolate, but I count every calorie in it.

Slow but sure loss should do the trick, and I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything. Luckily my wife does a great vegetable stir fry with fresh veggies and a tiny bit of olive oil. For meat we eat skinless chicken breasts and extremely lean pork meat, an occasional hamburger.
