Entry Time to regain some strength
Feb 02 2009 19:07

I went for my first weight training session on Saturday morning. I went with a friend who goes to this boxing gym. He works out regularly and so I thought he could show me the ropes.

I've never really done much weights, I used to keep fit in many other ways when in the Air Training Corps. I was definitely stronger in those days.

I'm still a little sore from the workout but its the good kind of sore. Just about recovering from it and it's monday night. I will go for another session soon. My muscles are complaining, its like they are protesting against the lack of usage in the past decade.

I am also trying to increase the exercise that I do. I am playing football (soccer (5-a-side)) once a week at the moment but want to increase that to twice a week. I also want to try and increase the weight training sessions to 3 times a week, if I can. Timing is the main issue really. I get back from work around 7.30pm and don't really want to do much after this point.

The thing is it feels good to give the muscles a good workout. My general fitness levels have improved. I haven't been on a treadmill in about 8 years and this time during a warm up I was chatting away with my friend as we ran. In the past I would have been very breathless and disappointed to see the time crawling along. Now the time flies by. It means my football sessions are working for me because I run around a lot during the hour we spend playing.
