New Year's Eve

And planning on looking FABULOUS. Although I am actually generally happy with my appearance, I'd like to get back into my healthier eating and exercise habits--I miss the energy and quality sleep... and of course the slimmer waist, whether it was real or just imagined...

I got sick of dieting. I got sick of exercise. I got fat :P

Ok, back on the bus ...

I quit smoking

Yay!

I read Allen Carr's book (something like the Easy Way to quit smoking, or quit smoking the easy way... something like that...)

It's actually been pretty easy, and I haven't been eating to make up for it or anything! So far :P

I actually feel about the same--none of the benefits doctors tell you you'll feel once you quit, but it's only been (almost) 2 weeks, so I suppose it is early yet.

Besides, one of the main reasons I quit (and this is really pathetic), is to meet a nice man and get married and start a family. Maybe not TOMORROW, mind you, but I would never date a smoker (I always knew I wanted to quit eventually, and when I dated smokers I would always smoke WAY too much), and why on earth would a non-smoker want to date a smoker??

Sooooo anyway. Anyone looking to quit, this book was actually really helpful--kind of washed over the brain washing with better brain washing. And you won't make food a substitute and get fat!!!!

oops :P

Man, first I over eat watching the super bowl (which I kind of expected, and planned ahead for, so I don't feel too awful about that), but today! There is just no excuse! I had *2* donuts! I had greasy yummy breakfast-for-lunch! I had mini Twix's!

I am going to diet-breakers' hell in a hand-basket. Oi, no self-control at all! I am at like, 1800 calories and I haven't even had my afternoon snack or dinner yet! I am planning on going to the gym tonight, but that was just to kind of make up for LAST night.... Looks like I'll be doing a lot of extra excersizing this week! I was really hoping to try and break into the 120's by the end of this week... I'll do my best to keep my stupid sweet/greasy/salty-tooth in check, but I don't imagine I'll be seeing the 120's as soon as I had hoped :(

edamame

I finally took the time to find frozen edamame at the grocery store the other day, and cooked them up last night. OMG are they yummy! Every time I eat them it's like I forgot how wonderful they were last time! And I can't believe something that tastes so good could be soooooo good for you!

left over birthday cake

Yesterday was Lora's birthday at work. They bought too much cake. It's still here.

I am going to try journaling instead of eating the cake.

Well, if nothing else, it did take up a minute of my time where I could not eat cake. Maybe if I ask someone nicely, they'll move the cake somewhere else.

Oh Jesus, now they're all talking about the cake, and having a slice. Do they know how many calories are in an an average slice??? Now as I am typing this my brain is saying go on, you can afford a slice of cake....

But I am not hungry, and it is not snack time yet anyway. And even if it was, would I rather have a 140 calories-sized slice (more like a sliver!) of cake, or a whole Snickers Marathon bar??

Ok, so maybe if nothing else, by journaliing this, I can guile myself into not eating the cake... after all if I do, then I'll have to log it, and swallow my pride and admit I gave in to my stupid cravings AGAIN. And after the CHEESE incident this week, I think I had better lay low.

If I want to see the 120's this weekend, then I have to take the Nancy Reagan approach and JUST SAY NO.

NOooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheeeeeeeese

It's official. For the thousandth time. I can NOT have cheese in my house! Last night I was making myself a baked potato for dinner. I planned on having shredded cheese and butter on it. While I waited for the potato to cook I thought I'd just treat myself to a little pinch of cheese. Then one more. Then a little more. And more and more and more... When I finally put the damn cheese away, I had probably eaten 7 of the 8 servings a person is supposed to be able to get out of one bag... in about 15 minutes! Grrrrr!!!!!! And even while I was doing it I knew it was bad: Cheese good! Binging on cheese bad! Dammit!

The good news is, the guilt kicked in right away, so as soon as I finished my last bite of potato, I turned off the TV (mid-movie even!), and went downstairs to work on my resume. Ok, I was still sitting on my butt, but I got away from munchie central (parked in front of the TV), so that's good. And I DID finish updating my resume ;)

Before bed, I tried one of the ab exercises anacaceres recommended yesterday. I wanted to try more, but I could only remember one off the top of my head :P Then I did crunches, used my PT resistance bands for a few reps, ankle weights for a few reps, an climbed into bed feeling not QUITE so bad about what I had done.

This morning I was only up a half pound... thank goodness for all the weight lifting and running I have ben doing since last year! I was sure I'd be at least a full pound -or even two- heavier after my performance in the kitchen... So I guess this is like getting off with a warning right?

Lesson: when you're at the grocery store and your tummy says "mmmmmm I promise to only eat a little bit! Buy it!", but your brain says "oh, you better put that back on the shelf..." you put it back on the shelf and keep walking!!

I'm having a heck of a time getting in all the exercise I promised myself I would get in... it's so hard in the winter, because there's not enough time to go to the gym after work and still get home to do chores before we run out of daylight... I'll sure be happy when the sun starts staying up until 6:30 or so...

I've tried to compromise by doing more exercise at home--I discovered new side crunch things that seem to really hit the love-handles (yay!), and I've been doing silly stuff like leg raises (with 3 pound ankle weights) and push-ups off the arm of the couch and stuff like that. I read an article in some celebrity magazine that said as little as 15 minutes a day of stuff like that can help you at least maintain your fit when it's hard to get to the gym for longer stretches of time. I guess we'll know soon enough.

I'm down to 133.5 as of this morning (wow, for once I didn't gain any weight over the weekend!!)... I dropped 3 pounds last week. Wouldn't it be sensational if I dropped another 3 this week??? I am so excited to hit the 120's again! I haven't seen them since like, middle school :P

2 pounds down, 10 to go!

ah, getting back on the wagon never felt so good!

I've gotten back into my better eating habits, and the weight is working it's way off!

I just discovered 2 great new snack bars--the new Kelogg's fiber bar (even yummier than Fiber One bars!!), and Kashi's TLC fruit & grain Pumpkin Pie bar. OMG the pumpkin bar is fantastic!! And CC is even giving it a B+, yay!

Today I am trying Amy's broccoli pot pie for the first time--higher calories than I usually like to consume for lunch, but I have a dinner-time hair appointment, so I'll just be having a slim-fast before, and a snack of some sort after, so I think it will be ok.

And I even treated myself to some taco cheese curds... I ate waaaaay too many of them last night, but I only went to 1700ish for the day, so that's still not horrible. Today might end up a little light, so it'll even out.

back on track

Ok, so I managed to go only 2 pounds over my goal weight after the holidays, so that's good news.

The bad news is, I am 6-7 pounds heavier than my lightest (recent) weight, just before Thanksgiving.

And I know just where that weight went--my hips are getting soft and flabby, and that has got to stop!

This month and next are going to be about getting myself back on track--I'm working on getting rid of the on-again-off-again, "just not that into you" hottie that I let myself pine over and make excuses for; I'm getting my eating and calorie counting habits back in shape; and I am getting my gym schedule back on board. 3-4 times a week, no excuses, no exceptions.

No more snacking on the couch watching TV. Man, I WISH I had a treadmill that I could just pack in front of the TV! That way if I wanted to watch TV, I could force myself to jog -or at least walk!- while I watch. Maybe that will be my birthday present to myself this year.

I am getting back to ME.
