That describes what happens to me. If I eat too much sugar quickly, it passes through the gut before everything's been processed. Then it hits the large intestine, and water is absorbed back in, causing pain, gas, and diarrhea. Once I've been able to clear the pipes, I'm fine.
I now know I have to be careful about the amount of sugar I have in a day; I'm not sure if it's a daily total to be careful about, or whether it's about eating one thing that's very sugar-laden. I'm also not sure if it concerns one particular type of sugar over another - most of the literature discusses lactose and fructose. Neither of these seem to fit; I eat yogurt regularly with no ill effects AND with fruit added, so if those two were a problem it should have manifested quite a while ago. I think this is either a sucrose or HFCS issue.
I do know I don't want to go through another episode like today. That was sheer misery, and my friends were very concerned. I was shaking, sweaty, and pale - almost shocky, it sounds like, doesn't it? :S My lower GI doesn't like being stretched AT ALL.
I would suggest you visit your doctor and have a blood test. You may be diebetic. |
I'm going to be tested for Celiac in a couple of weeks. I've been having similiar problems. Did the sugar you have involve any wheat, oats, rye, or barley? Was it in a dessert? I've been having problems for years and only suspected Celiac after a friend was telling me about her Mom. It may not be what is wrong with me but it's worth investigating since it can do major damage. My gas, bloating, and pain has been horrible not to mention that some things just go straight though. I also have sweating or where I just feel feverish but no fever. The Diabetes I know have complained of stomach pain and throwing up before diagnosis not sure about gas or bloating. |
Celiac doesn't seem like a good fit. I don't have this reaction to wheat or barley. I have been hypoglycemic for years; being diabetic would suck, considering the weight I've lost. |
