Entry The good versus the bad

Friday morning I weighed in at 145.6, my lowest since my sophomore year in high school. It was only .6 pounds away from my goal of 145 by Thanksgiving. Since my weight loss has tended to be very slow, I was super excited. Unfortunately that night I wasn't feeling well and somehow managed to binge and eat about 3000 calories! That's almost twice what I normally eat in a day! Only about 900 calories above maintenance, which is only about .25 lb weight gain total, right? Wrong. The next morning I weighed in at 147.6, and 2lbs was about expected with water retention, overconsumption of salt/sugar, etc. I went back on my normal eating schedule and did some substantial exercise to make up for it and made sure to drink a TON of water and by Sunday I'd be back to at least 146. Not so! I was at 148.6 by Sunday and Monday, and today, Wednesday, I'm at 149! I've been doing pretty intense workouts, about 45 minutes of cardio and 15 min weights plus eating 1600-1700 calories a day. I should be at a deficit of 700-800 calories a day, at least until I get back to my normal weight. I'm so confused as to why it hasn't gone down yet! Everyone has been so supportive in the forums and reassuring me what I already know - that this has to be a fluke and will go away in a few days. Problem is, it's been a few days...it's been almost 5! And I'm only gaining! I don't know what to do... Before I was eating about 1600-1800 depending on how hungry I was and how much I exercised that day, but it usually worked out and I lost weight. Now I'm doing about the same and gaining?! It just doesn't make any sense. I'm going to go over my activity and food logs from when I was really losing and see what I was doing and try to stick to that...

On the brighter side, I'm going to start working more towards eating a Mediterranean diet. I typically eat a fairly Mediterranean diet as it is, but I think focusing on that will make healthy choices easier and give me something to focus on other than this ridiculous weight gain.

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?

You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
