logging in from the library

so, yes, i did exercise for 25 minutes on the elliptical yesterday (yay me!) and did 35 minutes this morning on it! computer went to the shop yesterday and will be gone for at least 3 days, so didn't log calories. went out to dinner at a yummy restaurant with my 3 best friends yesterday but took half my dinner home with me, so i think i did ok altho i did have a couple of cocktails!

to linda: i definitely drink plenty of water but thanks for the suggestion. the meds actually are supposed to make you MORE thirsty! i think that now that the basement is taking shape it'll be easier for me to get back to my routine.

going for a massage this afternoon with a girlfriend - her birthday gift to me! how wonderful!

gonna go check ya'lls journals and then gotta go. have a good day, everyone.

i think i'm coming back to logging...

omg, it's so freakin frustrating dealing with controlling one's weight! how i wish my metabolism and committment was as strong now as it was when i was in my 20's or even 30's! my weight varies by as much as 5 pounds a week! it's very disheartening.

but, yesterday i jumped on my elliptical for a whopping 10 minutes before i was pooped. depressing! then i just eat and eat....i gotta stop this.

i hate seeing that "thumbs down" progress report on the site, but i guess i'll have to suck it up and post this week's weight, which is up 6 pounds since october 20. and up 4 pounds from last week. last week i was down 3 pounds from the week before. it really doesn't seem possible, but it is what it is.

my 3 best girlfriends are taking me out for my birthday tonite - actual birthday was november 2, but this was the first time we could all get together.

i need to take my computer in for service - the plug doesn't seem to be connecting properly so the battery isn't recharging and the screen flickers endlessly. it's very annoying! maybe i'll do that today.

i'm gonna go downstairs and see if i can get in 30 minutes of exercise without pooping out. i'll check back later - if i log calories today, i'll post them later.

5 more days till jamaica!

well, our weekend started off pretty good - saturday we went to home depot expo to look at stoves and faucets and lots of other cool stuff. we ran into some friends of ours there! then we ran a couple of errands, watched a little football...and then glenn got paged! at 3 pm he had to go to memphis, about 3 1/2 hours away. so he was gone till sometime after midnite. oh well. we didn't get too much more done around the house after that.

glenn went to work in the garage a few time on sunday, but kept coming back upstairs. he said it was overwhelming! i guess now he knows how i've been feeling for the past few weeks!

just doing normal houshold stuff today. might squeeze in a walk this afternoon when it warms up a bit - it's actually pretty cold this morning! i guess i need to go find the box of winter clothes and bring it upstairs now. but i'm also gonna make sure i bring comfortable clothes with me to jamaica - i'm not gonna worry too much about eating while we're there, but i will try to be reasonable!

i found out friday that i did get accepted in the tolvaptan drug trial, so i will start that when we return from vacation. i did some more research on this trial and i read that the drug is being fast-tracked for fda approval based, presumably, on positive initial findings. i hope i don't get the placebo!

hope everyone has a great monday!

actually, i'm just really glad it's the weekend and glenn will be home for it!

the weather man said it would be sunny today, but so far it's just cloudy, which is actually fine by me. i need to run to the grocery store for just a couple of things, then i want to make some spaghetti sauce and i told glenn i'd make him a chocolate cake for the weekend, so i'm gonna make a fudgy sheet cake from cookinglight.com. i think for dinner we'll make a homemade pizza, but it could also be leftovers or a salad. or split pea soup. not sure yet.

i also need to color my hair sometime this weekend - can't go on vacation with gray roots, now, can i??

i'm gonna try not to weigh again till monday. i've definitely gotten back on the healthy eating road, with normal portion sizes too! i want to make some hummus this afternoon to snack on, and also take some of my high fiber wraps to make baked pita chips. i can usually get 10 or so wedges out of the wrap, and each wrap's only 100 calories, so that and some salsa or hummus is a great snack.

btw, i just got a call from the pkd study, and i made it into the clinical trial! i'll start the drug when we get back from vacation, as the main side effect they are concerned with is excessive thirst; they didn't want me to have any possibility of adverse reactions while out of the country and on vacation. i'm very excited about the study. it's 3 1/2 years long, but the drug shows a fair amount of promise to slow and/or reverse the progression of pkd. go to www.pkdcure.org if you want to know more about the disease. it's the most common chronic kidney disease and currently has no cure.

i'll check more journals later. happy weekend!

waited allllll day for the cable guy...

and then he couldn't fix our problem. gah! he was nice, tho, and made some recommendations our cable provider wouldn't recommend (it's charter cable and the only provider where we live; they subcontract out their techs)

anyway, now i'm making split pea soup. tonite we're having baked chicken, broccoli, and sweet potato fries. i'd like to have a dessert, but i'm not sure what i can whip up without having to get out in the rain and run to the store. our nearest store is about 15 minutes away, so....

had a nice walk last nite - since i don't have to waste my day tomorrow waiting for the cable guy, i'll go for a walk tomorrow morning - i like our neighborhood! probably tomorrow i'll go to the grocery store to get a couple of things for the weekend. we're gonna stick close to home this weekend, and do a couple of things around the house. next weekend i will be on the beach in jamaica, enjoying a delicious cocktail and watching the sunset over the caribbean ***sigh***

hope you've had a good day - tomorrow's the weekend!!

eating much better now..

down to 170 this morning - i should have waited another few days to weigh, but i'm glad i weighed anyway. i should be back to the 160's next week, i think.

tonite we're gonna have eggplant and tofu curry. i've been really wanting some thai food, and the eggplants at the store looked so beautiful this week.

tonite i'm walking the neighborhood with my former personal trainer, who lives nearby. she's not a trainer anymore, but she's really a sweet girl. she and her husband married last year, and they'd known each other since grade school. i'm glad she's coming over tonite.

not much else going on. still unpacking and organizing. it'll take a while, but i've got time, and the house is actually starting to look more spacious. soon we'll get some of the artwork hung, but that can wait.

2 weeks till i'm in jamaica- i can't wait! hope ya'll are all having a great week!

happy monday peeps!

hello everyone! we had a nice weekend, our first entire weekend together since we moved to tennessee!

big week this week. lots to do - loads and loads of laundry, more unpacking, a little running around town, and i will make some turkey chili, spaghetti sauce, and split pea soup to freeze for quick and healthy lunch and dinner options. ironically, it is easier to eat properly when glenn is home! go figure.

all but one pound of the "binge" weight is gone (thankfully!) so i feel better about that. i will work in some exercise today - my body really needs some yoga and stretching, and a nice long walk.

i should hear something today or tomorrow about whether or not i can participate in the pkd clinical drug trial. the mri went ok but they could not give me the results while i was there - they gave me earplugs and a black blindfold, i had to take 2 xanax, and i was doing yogic, slow, deep breathing (i am very claustrophobic in those mri machines!)

i'm not crazy about the new cc - i particularly don't like the thumbs down graphic but i don't respond well to negative reinforcement. and i find it a bit more difficult and tedious to scroll thru the food listings. i guess i'll get used to it eventually. i'm really recommited to getting down to at least 150, then i'll head to the 130's.

hope you all have a splendid day!

today is a new day

i'm starting over today. i will not worry about the binges of the past few days. and i won't binge today. the scale last nite said i'd gained 8 pounds in a week. i hope that's not true but even if it is, i'm not going to worry about it. i'm just starting over today. i might wait a couple of days before i weigh again. it might depress me rather than encourage me.

i know there's a big dinner salad in my future today, since i bought bunches of healthy food the other day. and i want to clean up the house a bit since i'm pretty sure glenn will be home tomorrow sometime.

btw, glenn told me he has been "eating poorly" while he's been gone too - apparently, that's our euphamism for eating everything in sight without thought! it will be a lot easier to stay on track when he gets home - go figure!

i'll check back and comment in ya'lls journals when i get back from my mri this afternoon. i'm curious to see if there's been any change in the cysts or kidney size - i should get the results of last week's blood tests today too - that also measures kidney function, so i'm anxious to see if there's been any change since my last labs 4 months ago. i know my blood pressure's getting worse, and i'm sure my new nephrologist is going to change my blood pressure meds when i see him in november. he is one of the doctors running this drug trial, so i feel like i'll have lots of extra eyes on me to help me manage this disease, and maybe stop its progression.

ok, i think that's enough medical information, don't you?? thanks again rox, linda, nina, karen, and vee - and anyone else i missed! huggs to all!!

i'm pretty happy with today's progress - apparently good habits die hard, too! and i walked around our very hilly neighborhood for about 40 minutes, so i'm pretty encouraged. thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello. i'll visit journals more later in the week.

back to counting calories for me

weight back to 170, 8 pounds away from where i started however many years ago. so back to counting calories for me. today is day one. per the dietician i talked to a while back, my goals are:

1200 to 1500 calories per day, 40 - 60 grams of protein (need low protein due to polycystic kidney disease); 35 - 40 grams fat; 60% or 200 grams carbs (read: fruits and veggies, probably not pasta!)

i had to re-register to vote today, so after my late breakfast, i think i will take a walk around my new neighborhood, and then finish unpacking the upstairs boxes (yes, i am still unpacking!) then i want to work on some things down in the basement, like breaking down empty boxes, putting up books, and repairing a bookshelf that i'm going to use to store my crafts, scrapbooking supplies, and sewing supplies.

i'll post my first day's analysis tonite. you can be sure sonic cheeseburgers will not be on my food log today, nor will cheezy mac n cheese, or any of the other fast, easy comfort foods i've been indulging in lately. *sigh* so easy to return to bad eating habits!
