Entry Flax seeds? Indeed.

I stopped by Whole Foods last night on my way home from work . . . This could be a dangerous habit to get into, I'm thinking.  And by 'dangerous' I mean 'good for my tummy but cringeworthy for my bank account.'  I don't personally find WF to be especially expensive -- it's not bank-breaking, but it's not cheap either-- but I loaded up on produce.

I also picked up goat's milk yogurt (pretty good), cranberry pecan granola (tasty when mixed with the yogurt) and flax seed.

Yes, I bought flax seed.  I've been hearing about this as a supplement for fiber (which I'm sure I'm not getting enough of) and how it's supposed to be really good for you.  Certain that this was the hype of the day, I passed on this . . . until last night.  I reasoned that at 90 calories, I get plenty of fiber and vitamins.  Not too bad, right?  Granted, I'm already doing so much better about taking my vitamins, I don't think it's possible to OD on vitamins is it?  Or maybe it is, but in my mind, I'm picturing piles of vitamin pills that would need to be ingested for that to occur . . .

Hmm . . .

I'm about to begin "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan, which advocates spending more money on QUALITY food, not over-eating and eating mostly vegetation.

So here I am . . . at work with a lunchbox FULL of vegetables.  (No joke.)  I have two large containers of salad, a small container with a few tablespoons of olive oil (my favorite dressing is a drizzle of olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice -- refreshingly divine), a tomato (to cut and put into the salad), carrots, celery and an avocado.

I also have a bag of salted, roasted almonds to snack on and a packet of Kikkoman miso soup (35 calories for one little packet which you mix with water -- it's only $1.99 for three packets at Target).

And one more thing . . .

I have a totebag with me with socks and sneakers to walk in.  :)  Guess who's going walking at lunch?

I feel like this is going to be a delicious day.

When the weather starts to chill but isn't TOO cold I call it deliciously cold Laughing

Your food sounds fabulous and healthy and amazing!!!!

I have flax seed.  Lost it in my cabinet somewhere but supposedly you should store it in the freezer to keep it fresh.  I took it out because I wasn't using it and it was taking up too much space.  I used to toss it on whatever...it can get thrown into pretty much anything. Sprinkle it inside your sandwich, sprinkle it on your salad after you put your olive oil on it so it doesn't all fall to the bottom, throw it in your yogurt, add it to your eggs in the morning...whatever.  It's supposedly really good for you.  Can't remember why but a health nut friend of mine told me that several years ago, lol.

My dad used to drink a spoon of flax seed oil a day.  Can't remember why he did that either...but the seeds sound much nicer to me :-)
