Typically I don?t put in my new weight until the scale has stayed steady for a few days to a week?on September 20th I reported being down another three pounds?so the loss was actually from a few days prior. After that the scale just seemed to float around within a pound, of the same weight, once I looked it up in my paper journal yesterday I realized I?d been at about the same weight for almost two weeks. Yes it caused me a little frown and inspired a question in the forum. I wasn?t overly excited, mind you. Just wondering what was going on.
Now this morning I hop on the scale at it says 251?making me four pounds lighter since yesterday morning?s weigh in. This isn?t the first time this has happened, I tend to lose it like that. I just don?t understand why, is it water retention? Do I need to drink more water? I?ve been getting 6-8 glasses a day. Again not worked up about it, just kinda wondering.
It's usually recommended to weigh yourself once a week at the same time, same day, same clothing. There are so many things that can make your weight fluctuate from day to day (ie. water retention, salt retention, large meal, bowel movement). You don't want to concern yourslef with the changes from day to day. If every week you get on the scale, and you don't see a change, then you know you need to change something in your diet or exercise. But if you're consistently seeing 1-2 pound loss every week, then you're on the right track. I know that some people like to weigh themselves every day, and it is a personal preference, but I tend to think that people stress out more when they do that. Good luck with your weight loss! |
Hey Brighteyes! If you are getting 6-8; 12 to 16 oz. glasses of water a day (are you including your coffee, diet soda or whatever?) you should be getting enough fluids. What is your average per week loss? I agree with soneal76in that if you are averaging 1-2 lb a week.....don't worry...be happy! If you are way less than that and you feel you are eating according to whatever plan you are on, it may be time to re-evaluate your plan. When I talked to my doctor about this type of thing, he suggested I lower my carbs and increase protein and kick up the cardio. Also...I tend to go several weeks and will only lose a pound, then I might GAIN a pound and then BOOM-I'll lose 7-8lb in a week, so that might not be as abnormal as it sounds, I hear of lots of people doing that. So go for averaging it out. Hope this helps. Stay the course! :) BJ |
It's odd how weight can jump around. That happens to me too. long plateaus and a sudden drop (or gain |
Me too.. except the plateaus keep getting longer and the drops are getting smaller! |
I drink 6-8, eight ounce glasses of water (usually flavored/no calorie) a day?.getting enough fluid is a real obstacle for me. I count myself lucky if I get in the eight <sigh> I don?t drink coffee or tea?mainly JUST the flavored water. Usually lemon or Splenda sweetened Kool-aid. |
I think I'm on the same page as everyone else...every body is different but most follow their own pattern. I'll show a sudden drop if I've been stalled. The drop is usually out of the blue too. Nothing has to change sometimes except the bodie's own decision on whether to keep the weight or not. I sometimes try to tell myself that my body is so used to being overweight (it knows nothing else) that it hesitates letting go at times. Unless you know your body and don't mind seeing the fluctuations it does on a daily basis I would also reccommend switching to a weekly weighing. Let's face it, sometimes those fluctutations cause undue aggravation and that aggravation can easily hit our ego and effect our attitude towards the lifestyle changes. |
One suggestion....the kool-aid...probablly not real good for you even though it is sugar free...check that sodium content. If you don't like black teas..have you ever tried the Celestial Seasoning type flavored herb teas? Try go up to larger glasses or add just a few more...I think I read somewhere that you should get 84-96 oz of hydration daily? |
i tend to lose like that too. I don't sleep well at all and generally on nights that i sleep the best are the morning that i have lost the most. I won't lose a lot and then i get a good night sleep and its down 3 lbs. i think sometimes your body needs a reboot of sorts... maybe this is happening with you as well? |
Kool-Aid has zero MG sodium?I just checked. Thing is I never thought to look before, so I guess it?s a good thing it was sodium free. I normally watch my salt intake but for some reason it never crossed my mind to look for it in Kool-Aid L Crystal light has 35mg, I like the Crystal Light?but don?t have it often. I also like herb teas, just not daily. With it getting chilly though I think I can add a couple cups a day. Thanks for the suggestions. |
