Entry updates with crazy schedule
Sep 18 2009 19:22

this is my first semester in nursing school and its great. I have been working in clinicals with patients on my own which really helps build my skills and confidence. Working maternity right now in diff. areas each week but dont think the labor and delivery thing is really for me. I still like going though. My diet has not been an issue for a while. I dont really have an exercise routine but i am much more active than i use to be and i make healthy food choices on instinct now. My only complaint is how cold i seem to be all the time. The hospital feels like a freezer and no one else seems to notice.

OB was not my favorite clinical either.  For many different reasons, too much grossness, blood, body fluids.... the emotional aspect of it also, way too much.  I liked the clinical experience, but, no, I probably will never do OB.  The thing I will most remember about my OB clinicals is it was the first time I cathed someone, it was a funny experience.  Remember cathing a mannequin in lab and cathing a real person are two totally different things.

You are getting into the real exciting part of nursing school.  Really pay attention to the nurses that you work with and ask questions.  You have this chance to get a small taste of different career choices, and see some really cool stuff.  Jump in with both feet, and volunteer for every experience.  I understand that this is a stressful time, I remember being anxious a lot.  I still am.  A little anxiety is not a bad thing, it helps me from making mistakes.  Good luck, I'm looking forward to hearing from you again.  Teresa
